Why The Way You Eat An Elephant Is A Good Goal Setting Plan!

Congratulations entrepreneur! For what you ask? For finally deciding to effectively go about your strategic goal setting efforts. Because this current new years eve resolution that you made, you actually mean it this time, right?
Good. Because you know, (once again) it’s a whole new year and with just a few systematic tweaks here and there. Guess what? You’re not going to get a quarter of a way through, (or less) and suddenly lose steam and fizzle out. Does that process sound all too familiar?
Yea, we’ve pretty much all been there and done that a few times, haven’t we? Sure. And the really sad part is each new years eve as we go about (actually) writing down what our new goal(s) are for the coming year.
We somehow convince ourselves that this year (unlike) all those previous years, we’re actually going to follow through and finally make it happen.
And we’re so excited, aren’t we? And then, not too far long into the new year, as is and was the case in previous years, somehow slowly and methodically, we get off track, until eventually all those lofty plans and goals simply fall by the waist side.
Does that sad state of affairs sound all too familiar entrepreneur? Yep! Well, believe it or not all is not lost. Say what?
Because you see, part of your overall problem is, the way you (and I) systematically go about goal setting. So the remainder of this post is dedicated to dissecting that process, in the hopes of finally discovering and to keep from getting so far off the track so quickly going forward.
So How Does The Way We Go About Eating An Elephant Make For A Good Goal Setting Process?
Okay, so we’ve all pretty much heard the saying, the way you eat an elephant is “one bite at a time”, correct? And that’s really great advice.
For one thing, even though (on paper) the lion is considered the “King of the beast.” That lowly 500 LB potential man eater, by itself is simply no match for a full blown 12,000 LB adult elephant! Agreed?
And likewise, when you and I strategically go about proper goal setting, it’ always best to heed that sage advice about eating elephants.
Translated: Whatever your lofty goals are (entrepreneur), make it easy on yourself already! Meaning; break those goals down into really bite size (far more) realistic doable, (practical ) daily activities!
This way, just like eating that enormous elephant, you don’t and won’t get so nearly (and easily) overwhelmed. Does that make sense? Good, because there is simply no reason for your worthwhile goal(s), to constantly fall by the waist side. Year after year.
Eat Just A Little Bit Of The Elephant Every Day And You’re Far Less Likely To Starve!
It’s far too easy to get distracted and or side tracked, don’t you agree? And it’s far less likely to happen if you don’t inadvertently set yourself up for inevitable failure.
By constantly setting goals that are so enormous that (just like) attempting to eat that incredibly large elephant in one sitting. And that’s typically how and why you and I get or go off course, with regards to proper and realistic goal setting.
We have a tendency to project too much and practically guarantee that we’ll ultimately fail. So going forward, let’s be a little more deliberate and strategic with regards to proper goal setting.
And just like eating the elephant one bite at a time, let’s make those lofty goals a little more bite sized and therefore a little more easy to complete. That way, we’ll be far more likely to succeed! Don’t you agree?
