Why You Really Can’t Totally Calculate The Negative Effects Of A Major Employment Shift!

As you recall from the previous series about the overall negative effect of a major employer literally laying off their entire staff within 6- 18 months or less.

While some laid off workers are eventually able to secure a new full or part time job. Many find they can’t match their previous wages with just one replacement full time job. So economics force them to get another part time job to helps ends meet.

This is just some of the negative effect(s) they experience. As they attempt to re-build their lives economically and socially.

Developing Practical Side Hustle Ideas Is Crucial When Your Main Employment Is Being  Completely Eliminated!

So getting back to our original hypothetical illustration. An incredibly successful plant in a town with a population of 43,000 plus.

This one major plant at it’s peak employed 5,300 workers full and part time. They offered great benefits, including a great healthcare package and a good retirement package as well. And some people literally waited years trying to secure employment there.

That is, until they were bought by a private equity firm which literally gutted the company. To help really put things into proper perspective. This one successful plant equals one eighth of the entire city’s population.

So when the first wave of 4,500 layoffs occur. Suddenly a ton of local residents. Temporarily or permanently can no afford to pay their light, heating, cable or cellphone bills etc.

And the local heating and oil companies suddenly lose half or three quarters of their loyal customer base.

Landlords and mortgage companies aren’t being paid on time or at all. The local mom & pop dry cleaning businesses see a third to half of their weekly or monthly income suddenly dry up.

Credit card companies suddenly aren’t being paid either. Because these cards quickly got maxed out.

And What About The Constant Family Squabbles?

So what about this all too common occurrence when one or both parties lose their job at the plant. One suggests they simply sell their house or move out of their apartment and try their luck elsewhere.

The other cares for their aging or sick parent(s.) And they are hostile towards leaving or moving more than an hours drive away.

So at dinner and other times together. This one subject alone is a constant beef (argument) between them. There’s no more stopping for gas at the local mini mart at least twice a week. Which means the mini mart has lost at least half of their daily gross revenue.

And the mom & pop company which sells coffee, sugar, cigarettes, bagels and lottery tickets are all feeling the pinch.

Less new cars and less used cars are being sold or even leased. Less refinances and less money spent during the Xmas holiday season.

Just Consistently Making Ends Meet Becomes A full Time Job!

Typically a family of four which used to average $400-$475 dollars per week on groceries.

Now find it hard to consistently spend $150-$300 dollars per week. The private school thing is either on hold or done for good.

And either they’re forced to temporarily move in with friends, close relatives, siblings, parents or in-laws.

Or they’re forced for economic survival reasons to let a relative or somebody sleep on the coach for extra, (much needed income!)

And if it’s a guy, he totally creeps their daughter'(s) out. The girlfriend or wife wants them gone asap. And the husband or boyfriend stresses “how” much they desperately need the money. Even more festering turmoil in the household.

Or the constant stress and strain of both parties constantly working long hours. Starts to take it’s toll on their relationship. And the kids. Some temporarily separate. While others filed for divorce and moved on.

Such is the negative effect(s) of a major employer laying off thousands of workers.

This Proves Just How Much Even A Slight Change Can Ultimately Bring About!
