What To Do Even When Effective Conflict Resolution Strategies Still Leave A Really Bad Taste In Your Mouth!Part Two

 

As you previously discovered in part one of this ongoing series, that as also was previously disclosed, it just happens to be based on a “shocking true story!”

You were in the process of hearing my recollection and my explanation as to how and why, even after the best (and noblest of intentions) with regards to implementing some of the best (battlefield tested) conflict resolution strategies.

It’s still quite possible that you may in fact, still whined up with a really bad taste in your mouth! As sadly, was personally the case for me. But this particular post, was not written (merely) to  recap my unfortunate situation.

Instead, it was too also offer a proven way going forward. An effective emotional way of letting go if you will. And instead, somehow learning (as best you possibly can) to use this unfortunate mishap, (going forward) as an emotionally teachable moment!

As opposed to merely venting all the former mental and emotional anger and bitter disappointment that it (most assuredly) caused at that particular time!

Remember, this entire unfortunate incident took place just about ten years ago! And even though I’ve personally lost touch with that particular guru, (who as far as I know) is still around.

Unfortunately,those unresolved emotional feelings (truth told!) have probably never ever truly been any lower, than just below the immediate surface of my conscious thoughts!

What You Can And Should Probably Do When Even The Most Effective Conflict Resolution Strategies Still Leave You With A Rather Bad Taste In Your Mouth!

Picking up where part one left off; after giving the guru an ultimatum about (either) immediately sending their Internet marketing course via first class priority mail (as advertised) and or immediately returning my $297 dollars!

He of course did neither! Huh? So about four more weeks went by, without any further email correspondence from him! It was about this time, that a really good friend of mine, that also just happened to (not only) live in the same state as this rather well known particular guru!

She also (in confidence of course!) confided to me a few other current horror stories of how the word was sort of slowly spreading  out throughout the (Internet marketing) grapevine, that this same basic complaint was being levied against the guru elsewhere! By others!

And that like me, the complainants have never had their issues satisfactorily resolved either! You’ve got to be kidding!

So she strategically suggested (that since) this particular guru in questioned, currently frequented this one particular, and at  the time (incredibly popular forum), primarily focused on Internet marketing issues.

(Translated: was primarily devoted to marketing most if not all of their higher priced products and services to starry eyed newbies such as myself!)

She suggested that I too  join the forum and basically ask if (A.) anybody else knew this particular guru and if so. (B.) If they had also in fact ever experienced a similar problem, that I was currently facing? And if so, how or did they ever finally resolve it?

Whenever You Anticipate Rain Make Sure You’ve Got An Umbrella!

Well let me tell you! Before you know it,I quickly found myself  smack dab in the middle of a major “S” storm! If you get my drift! In spite of the fact that several other people responded that they too (in fact) had been burned by this particular guru in question as well!

Several others immediately came to this man’s immediate defense and began an outright vicious verbal defense of him, that would have even made O.J. Simpson’s “dream team” proud!

In fact, things quickly got so hot and heavy, that the guru in question was actually forced to surface and half heartily attempted to defend both his name and his incredibly questionable actions to that point!

First, he feebly responded by trying to suggest, that I was merely a former disgruntled newbie product purchaser! That couldn’t accept the fact that I wasn’t rich after only 90 days or less of investing in some educational materials! Yea right!

Always Make Darn Sure You Own Up To Your Inevitable Mistakes! (And Not Try And Pass The Buck!)

But when others continued to slowly emerge, basically singing my same tune! He quickly abandoned that ship! Then his next (totally) lame excuse, was the fact that he somehow lost both my current phone number and current return mailing address!

Again, the forum members for the most part simply didn’t buy it! But since a few of his major defenders did!

I basically put the issue in question to bed, by challenging any of his staunchest defenders to please send me their personal email addresses (asap!), and I would forward them at  least three previous emails of mine to him!

Proving that I had (in fact) sent him both my current phone number and current return mailing address, on at least three separate occasions! In the end, not a one of them did! And the noise (meaning all the previous chatter from his staunchest defenders) quickly fell silent!

Just a little further ahead! Wait to you see what else this incredibly brazen and careless marketer did!

What You Can And Should You Do When All Other Forms Of Civility Fail!

In short, I was called (by some) and often,but certainly not by all!Everything but a child of god!

And one of the other reasons that I’m sharing this particular post, is because of an earlier post that I wrote about the seven ways that you could strategically use a controversial subject to your advantage!

And two of the comm enters, shared their rather similar negative feedback experiences, when they dared to go against the grain on a particular subject!

Both indicated how they too (immediately) found themselves knee deep in a major “S” storm as well! But get this, in the meantime (not one to sit idly by and do nothing!)

I took the liberty and initiative to contact the state Better Business Bureau (within the state ( this particular guru was currently residing at the time.

And filed a formal complaint against his company. And the short of all this was, the BBB informed me  that the defendant’s company in question, basically had 60 days from their notice of receipt to respond.

Otherwise, the formal complaint would then become a filed public notice of record, for all who inquired about his company going forward, to be made aware of!

The short of it! Incredibly! The guru failed to respond! Oh well! Moving right along!

Why It May Not Initially Seem Like It! (You Really Do Have More Viable Options Than You Currently Realize!

Next, by now (maybe six to eight months in), the guru had now moved on to another nameless ( although rather famous)  Internet marketing gurus forum. And again, it was my friend who made me aware of his continuous online presence there!

Not wanting to repeat the same tactical mistakes as before! This time, I tried a more direct approach! I contacted the guru forum owner directly and pretty much laid out exactly what had unfolded to this point!

And to my utter amazement the guru forum owner not only responded to me! But went on to make me aware that he had verbal  assurances from the guru in question himself, that he had sent me a check  for the $297 dollars in question.

And that in just a few short days, this entire (total) misunderstanding,  (yea right!) could and should finally be put to bed once and for all!

It’s about freaking time! Finally (or so I thought!) this matter could and would finally be put to bed.

Not so fast! Sure enough, within four or five days of originally hearing from the guru forum owner. Low and behold, a check from the guru in question finally arrived! But guess what?

You anticipated what happened next, right? Yep! The check “bounced” and was returned to me and marked as “NSF!” Translated’; None Sufficient Funds! Well needless to say as this point I was in full nuclear destruction mode!

Entrepreneur, (my hand to you) I’m not making any of this up and or embellishing any of this story in order to secure a rather lucrative book deal from Simon & Shuster!

Be As Proactive As You Can And Be But Also Be Prepared At Some Point To Simply Walk Away!

I immediately contacted the guru forum owner and basically threw the nuclear option at him!I basically made him aware, that this day going forward, any and everywhere I saw (or was made aware of) the guru in question being active in any other forums!

That I would immediately register and not only recount my entire story! But I also made it crystal clear, that I would also gladly shared the fact, that even after I personally made you aware numerous times that this person had sent me a bad check that subsequently bounced!

You still allowed this man to market his products and services inside your forum! Even though you knew he was constantly using questionable business practices!

And I also made it crystal clear to him, that if he or anyone else ever tried to call me a liar or whatever! I’d scan  a copy of the check marked “NSF” and put it on the Internet for all the world to see!

And within just seven short days from my rant! The guru in question (finally) did the right thing and returned my $297 dollar investment, via Paypal!

Well entrepreneur, that’s my entire sorted (real world) tale! And yes I’m definitely sticking to it! Since the guy finally made good on the return of my money!

Don’t Ever Sell Out For Just The Immediate Short Term Gain! (Instead Stay Focus On Seeing The Overall Big Picture Too!)

I’m content for all that feel the need to speculate on who it might actually be! For that primary reason, I won’t bother to reveal his and the other principals involved, real identities.

But at the end of the day, I’ve decided that even though he did finally use some effective conflict resolution strategies, to eventually make good on my complaint. To this day, I still have a rather bad taste in my mouth about this entire mishap. Ten years later!

So my best advice (going forward) is to get as much personal and or business satisfaction as you can out of that kind of negative situation (legal and or otherwise!) And then simply let it go and move on asap! Don’t you agree?
