Seven Things Adversity Taught Me That I Really Didn’t Want To Learn!

 

So when’s the last time you faced any type of  adversity? Now before going any further, let me offer this quick disclaimer. There are lots of much more serious and poignant examples of real hardship and adversity, than what you’re about to read about here.

Case in point. Unfortunately some people have suffered the devastating loss of a loved one!

Or perhaps, they’re going through a really messy and draw out divorce and or separation. Or perhaps you’re caring for a permanently disabled loved one or you just lost a very successful business, that literally took you and others years to build up etc!

So in no way am I trying to equate what I’m about to share you, as anywhere near that type of tragic and emotionally devastating adversity! Okay?

It’s just this particular situation caught me totally by surprise and forced me to face and learn some rather (painful) hard lessons, that truth told, I would have much rather not been forced to learn!

 

Seven Tough Lessons Adversity Taught Me That I Really Would Have Preferred Not Learning!

So here’s the situation that basically inspired this post. Back when I was first learning about web 2.0 properties like Squidoo lens and hubpages.com etc.

And I still hadn’t quite taken the time to get a self hosted WordPress site, even though my Coach Becky Joubert had constantly advised me not to put so much effort into creating content on Squidoo lens and or hubpages etc. (And social media platforms in general.)

She warned me that I really needed a main central location to “brand” myself. And not to put all my effort into these various social media platforms, because you and I can’t control any decisions they might make, that might be harmful to us!) Yada ya da ya!)

Like getting your account(s) mysteriously shutdown for no apparent reason(s.) This of course had already happened to her once and she was merely trying to prevent the very same thing from happening to me!

But I pretty much delayed getting my WordPress site set up, (the blog you’re currently reading BTW), and instead pressed on using those far simpler web 2.0 platforms.

Just Like You Hopefully Don’t Currently Live On The Streets! ( Online You Definitely Need One Primary Location For Your Audience To Frequently Visit!)

I was primarily publishing hubpages, (which are glorified articles) on a fairly regular basis. And things were cruising along fine.  Or so I thought!) when all of a sudden, out of the blue with no previous warning!

And I might add, after I had published a mere 125 hubs,  (over a five and month period.)I log into my account only to find a message informing me that I had violated some policy of theirs.

And my account had been shut down! Say what? What policy? And how come I didn’t get any type of warning and or a chance to correct things before my account was just shut down!

I mean seriously, I got no negative feedback for basically five and a half months! And then suddenly I’ve violated some policy and my hubpage accounts gets (for all tense and purposes) permanently shut down!

Well needless to say. Life does indeed go on! Does it not?

 Even Though I Definitely  Could Have Done Without Learning These Seven Hard Lessons!

Once I informed my coach (Becky Joubert) what had happened, that’s when she reminded me-again- of why I definitely needed my very own self hosted WordPress blog! (NASA, I now read you loud and clear!)

1.) Hard lesson # one: The first and foremost hard lesson this mini bout with semi adversity taught me was, when someone who has already been there and done that! And they try to save you and I the pain of experiencing the exact same fate as they did!

Entrepreneur, do yourself a favor and pay close attention and heed their warning(s)! (My bad Becky! I definitely should have listened to you much sooner!)

2.) Hard lesson # two: My hubpage account getting unexpectedly shutdown, totally reinforced why I need to get control of when, where and how often I could publish my own and others content!

Sometimes The School Of Hard Knocks Teaches You Some Incredibly Painful Lessons!

3.) Hard lesson # three: As much as I didn’t want to face it! I needed to find at least a few silver linings in what had just transpired! After all, there was plenty to be learned from this distasteful experience! Right? Absolutely.

4.) Hard lesson # four: As much as I didn’t want to admit it, my account being unexpectedly shutdown was really a sort of blessing in disguise, because it forced me to get my WP blog up and going asap!

5.) Hard lesson # five: I came face to face with the hard cold reality that social media platforms are owned by somebody else, and that I/we

truly have no control over them whatsoever! Pretty much what they say goes! Agreed?

You Definitely Do Have Total Control Over Your Very Own Self Hosted WordPress Website Or Blog!

6.) Hard lesson # six:It’s always just a really good idea to have some sort of back up plan! Just in case the unexpected happens! Because more times than not, it will!

7.) Hard lesson # seven: And finally… I learned that it’s best to just deal with your main issues, (swallow the frog!) head on and not be forced to confront them, as a direct result of a mishap!

Meaning: I put off getting my WP blog going because I wasn’t totally comfortable learning the WP platform. And as a direct result, adversity reared it’s ugly head, and literally forced me to deal with it!

Whether I wanted to or not! Those are the seven extremely hard lessons that my (so called), semi adversity taught me, even though I would have much rather preferred not learning them at all! Any questions?
