Three Simple Business Lessons I Discovered While Playing Basketball On The Weekend!

 

Entrepreneur do you have a favorite sports team and or sport? Do you happen to enjoy playing basketball? Or watching it? Personally, I’m not a big NBA fan anymore, nor do I necessarily enjoy playing the game anymore per se.

Of course, you might be wondering (and rightfully so), how in the world a blog post came about, from a guy who (A), is not even a baller anymore! And (B) doesn’t even necessarily enjoy watching the NBA these days?

Fair enough. The short of the story is this. A while ago, a good friend of mine (along with) a few other slightly past our primes, old G’s, were hanging out at the park over the weekend.

And since the weather was exceptionally nice and one of the guys (unfortunately) had a ball with air in it, in their trunk.LOL!

Before you knew it, you had six (way too old), make that way too mature men. Way too far past their respective primes, trying desperately to recapture the sweet bird of their youth! (But it wasn’t to be!)

Now for the record! I need to make this disclaimer! Actually only five of us initially wanted to take part in this shoot around, that quickly evolved into a , “let’s get a three on three game going” event.

But they needed that all important six participant, in order to balance both teams with three players each. And yours truly was basically told, (make that threatened!) that if I didn’t participate,  the local cops may have trouble finding my missing remains!LOL!

So I reluctantly came out of (weekend warrior) basketball retirement, in order to accommodate this rowdy democratic republic. And thus, my eventual three business discoveries began!…

Three Simple Business Lessons I Discovered While Playing Basketball Over The Weekend!

As fate would have it, of course, seeing how I reluctantly decided to participate in this three on three, (I so desperately) wannabe young again, glorified shoot around. The very first game, provided the first of three extremely enlightening and partially painful aha moments.

Since I was paired with one of our buddies much younger nephews! And his much younger legs and far superior athleticism, set the tone for my three business discoveries.

1.) Business discovery # one: Here’s the first business lesson that dawned on me, as a direct result of having my (suffice it) to say, far too mature legs, trying desperately in vain to keep pace with much younger, far more agile legs!

Entrepreneur, unless you’re only involved in a gloried hobby! Otherwise, you need to invest in the most up to date, state of the art technology, in order to compete with your current and future  major competitors! Agreed? I sincerely hope so.

2.)  Business discovery # two: Next, within three games of three on three, everybody (thank goodness), had gotten over their “Lebron James” wannabe fetish! And we all settled down for a few good laughs and poked fun at each others lack of skills and youth!

And it was a good thing. Because both my lower back, calf’s and wrists were extremely sore! Which brings me to aha business discover moment # two. You need highly skilled professionals of all kind, in order to be competitive.

Not weekend warrior wannabe types, that try as they may, simply cannot get the job done.

3.)  Business discovery # three: And finally, the third aha business discovery was this. Entrepreneur there’s simply no reason to get upset or be too frustrated! Especially when you already know going in, that you don’t have the most skilled personnel, nor the most up to date equipment.

And you also realize, that at best you’ve got a glorified hobby, not a real business! The weekend warriors, that got together and ran around the court for a few hours, have absolutely no chance at a professional basketball career! (It’s presumed they were painfully aware of this fact before we took the court that afternoon!LOL!)

And by the same token, if you’re serious about growing and sustaining a real business. Then you’d better invest in the necessary tools! Those were three extremely valuable, (and at different points) temporarily physically painful  business lessons, that I realized while playing basketball on the weekend.
