Are you a big fan of jogging? Or of the new term I’ve recently coined, called “power walking?” Have you ever been jogging and suddenly found yourself caught in a major rainstorm?
Yea, the following recently happened to me. As I was humming along one afternoon, clearly enjoying the outdoors and getting the endorphin’s and the other physiological attributes, the so called experts claim you receive while exercising.
(I’m totally getting right with the universe!LOL!) When all of a sudden, (seemingly out of nowhere) I feel a few periodic rain drops. Ah, no problem, because judging by the total lack of visible dark clouds.
I’ll be done, back home and enjoying a warm shower before any major damage can be done! When all of a sudden, Mother nature decided to let everybody know who was really in charge! It started raining uncontrollably hard! (Really hard!)
What? So do I seek the nearest shelter and wait it out? Or continue on and get completely drenched in the process? It was in this split second, that I experienced, three incredible moments of critical thinking business clarity!
How A Severe Rainstorm Taught Three Extremely Critical Business Lessons!
(That Will Hopefully Serve You Well Too!)
So what type of so called moment of business clarity, happened as I was literally being drenched during an extremely severe (yet relatively brief) rainstorm? That inspired me to write this post. Actually there were probably more than three, but the following three remained vividly in the fore front of my thoughts.
1.) Business clarity moment # one: First and foremost! Entrepreneur, in business and in life, sometimes things happen unexpectedly and you simply have to do the best you can at that moment! With exactly what you’ve got! And rather than use your energy getting all bent out of shape about, why this or why that!
Instead, focus your energy on adequately adjusting and responding to your situation, as best you can! It’s definitely a less stressful approach to take!
2.) Business clarity moment # two: Next, when you are forced to think on your feet and improvise, a lot times, you come to grips with the fact that it’ doesn’t really matter so much what happens to you!
It’s more about how you go about responding and adjusting to the current situation at that particular moment! (Don’t you agree?)
3.) Business clarity moment # three: And finally, after I did eventually get home totally drenched! And after I had a chance to shower and settle back down to the business at hand!
I realized that being caught in a severe and totally unexpected rainstorm wasn’t nearly as traumatic as I originally made it out to be! Was it inconvenient as hell! And totally unexpected! Absolutely! Did I survive! Sure did!
Going forward, could I use these internal lessons to help me in future far more serious personal and or crucial business challenges? Oh yes! Those were just three of the extremely critical business/life lessons, being caught in a totally unexpected severe rainstorm taught me? If you would be so kind!

Hi Mark. I enjoyed your rainstorm analogy. Sometimes sh*t happens, and how we react to it makes the difference between a bad outcome or a good one.
I love the spiritual ‘Rocka’ My Soul’, and I changed the verse and sing it to myself when I run into an obstacle:
So high, I’ll just go over it,
So low, I’ll just go under it,
So wide, I’ll just go ’round it
‘Cause something’s blocking the door.
Helps every time when I dealing with a frustrating problem. Thanks for your thoughts.
All the best,
Leslie

You’re so right about stuff happens Leslie!
An without a doubt, how we either respond or react will be another extremely telling moment of truth as well!
but without a good stern internal test every now and then. How is anyone expected to grow! And find
out what they’re really made and or totally lack!
Focus on solutions, not problems and we’re half way home! Thanks for sharing your feedback and for
your continuous support! I truly appreciate both!
Hi Mark,
I love the analogy you have given here about being stuck in a rain storm.
Applying this to business is a great way to set our mind in dealing with situations that do come up all the time.
At first, if something goes wrong, there is a level of anxiety, then a bit of confusion strikes us “What am I going to do?”
But we push on, and find a way to weather that “storm” seeking the appropriate action to fix it.
Best of all is your point #3…The realization that it wasn’t as bad as the “moment” we had to fix it.
Awesome message my friend!

Absolutely!
I couldn’t agree more with your assessment of my assessment!LOL! We both in know
that in both business and life, things unexpected happen! Sometime more often than we like!
And we are simply forced to deal (and or cope) with them as best we can, with what we got!
And unfortunately there is no manual to open and flip to page such & such to guide us!
So we either adapt and and or grow or shrink and possibly be out of business!
So like you said, we either weather the storm or pack our bags! like you, I prefer to press on!
Glad you enjoyed and appreciated the analogy coach!
Thanks so much for your continuous support and for stopping by and sharing your thoughts!
As always, I truly appreciate both!
Great lessons Mark and I’m so glad you made it home okay! I’ve experienced similar lessons hiking Maui. There’s nothing like trekking across the middle of a huge volcano or crawling through a lava tube to provide you with a few lessons on priorities. 🙂 I especially like your third point because it is SO true and I think it’s that anticipation of how bad things could be that so often prevents us from taking a risk. Thanks for sharing your story and inspiration.

Thanks Marquita!
And what’s this about trekking across a huge volcano!LOL! No thanks! How about I just
watch that happening on the discovery channel!LOL! Because that’s about as close to that
particular activity, that my heart could stand!
Yea, I’d have to say # three probably relates best to a lot of the extremely valuable content
that you share!
Thanks for stopping by and for sharing you thoughts! And for your continuous support!
I really appreciate it! Have a great weekend! And be mindful the next time you find yourself
crawling through any lave tubes or the like!LOL!
