Why These Examples Of Target Marketing Really Work!

You’ve often heard that you need to market a specific niche, correct? And how often have you actually seen proven examples of target marketing that really work?

Now online it’s vitally important that you use specific (preferably) long tail keyword phrases to effectively target a specific group, right? But offline, when you think about so called niche marketing of any kind, what image and or images, immediately come to mind?

It really doesn’t matter who or what type of business entity, industry and or associations, that you may be trying to target.

As long as you understand how to strategically take advantage of human nature.Huh? For example. let’s say you’ve got a Mom & Pop family style restaurant. And Mom & dad love to bring their kids whenever possible.

Entrepreneur, here’s a potential goldmine of currently untapped possibilities, just waiting to be acted on……

Check Out These Three Really Powerful And Profitable Examples Of Target Marketing At Work!

When you really stop to think about it, your extremely valued customer and or client base, doesn’t really require all that much, in order garner their continued loyalty!

For example. Just depending on how much the restaurant can afford to initially invest on various advertising and or marketing campaigns etc. Imagine this, after you’ve been seated and are about to place your order.

The server staff comes to your table with the menus and if there are any kids  twelve and under in your group,  the staff hands one of the adults, preferably the female, whose probably the Mom, an index sized card.

And the card says in big bold red letters! Congratulations! For the next 90 days, you can bring up to three kids twelve and under and and three of them only pay what they weigh! That’s a rather pleasant unexpected surprise, right?

Next, they give dad (or the oldest male at the table) provided he’s at least 18 or older. This card for a steak dinner raffle. They pay a one time raffle interest fee of just $10 dollars and the winner will get their next three steak dinner vouchers, which are for a grand total of $180 dollars! Or a general dinner coupon voucher that’s good for $60 dollars each or X.

But they’ve got 90 days after the hand written date on it to use it!

And they’ll announce the winner by snail mail, text and or email. Dad or the male will simply go to a special lead capture page on the restaurant owners WordPress blog and fill out the necessary contact info etc.

Entrepreneur Let Your Target Know They’re Being Targeted!

Now say on Valentines day, the restaurant owner could arrange for the first twenty five or X number of women over 18 that enter the restaurant, they could make a joint venture type of arrangement with local women s boutique where they pass out  16 oz. samples of one the stores most popular women s fragrances, along with a small extremely time sensitive VIP new customer only discount coupon from the boutique!

How surprised do you think  these ladies will be? Plus, as a totally unannounced, unexpected extra special gift!

The restaurant owner(s) will have pass out special birthday club cards for the ladies to fill out and it will only list their first and last name. The day and month of their birth, not the year!

If their married, it will also list their wedding anniversary date. And it also asks them to check a box if they have kids and how many. And it also ask them to choose from the choices on the card, which one is their favorite desert!

As soon as all these cards are collected. One female will win a pie (favorite) desert of their choosing! Plus, they’ll also get one giant sized 5-7 foot teddy bear! Now first off, think about how much this entire promotion will cost, as opposed to continuously buying outrageously expensive local TV, radio and or newspaper ads!

Plus, which approach (do you think) will cause more long term positive (offline) word of mouth publicity and online positive social media buzz as well!

And Don’t Be Afraid Or A Little Hesitant To Think Outside The Box!

Plus, (hey, you gotta make a positive long term impression here entrepreneur!), don’t you agree? Because remember, you’re not the only family style restaurant in town you know!

Now then, since only one woman gets to walk away (each time)  with the pie (and or desert) of their choice and the giant teddy bear, right! What about all the other ladies?

So glad you asked! They all get offered a special 90 card, where they can buy any two deserts, per visit for just .50 cents each! And at the end of the 90 days. If they wish they can automatically get a special laminated card that’s good for one years and they pay just $5 dollars for it.

And anytime they come to the restaurant with at least one other adult 18 & over, they pay just $3 dollars for any two adults! Irregardless of what the total actually is!

And every other desert cost retail or whatever the current price is. It’s fairly safe to say you see who the target market here is, right? And equally important, hopefully you can see how and why these proven examples of target marketing really work! Any questions?

  1. Hi Mark,

I like your unique ways of testing your target market.

It seems that there are a lot of entrepreneurs who feel that target market research is optional; however, I see it as a necessity. Trying to build a business without researching your target market research is as sensible as trying to fish in the ocean with a stick: you will keep stabbing in the dark and hoping you hit the mark.

    • So true Rachel!

I love your analogy about fishing in the ocean using a stick! When you think about it,
how can any serious entrepreneur try to enter any market and successfully compete, when you have no
reasonable idea who you’re specific target market is!

How does anybody, no matter how deep or not deep your corporate pockets are, successfully
market to a target you can’t adequately define! Good luck with that!!

Well said! Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts and for your continuous support!
      Both are greatly appreciated!

  2. Hey Mark,

Yep, you are one savvy marketer my friend. Great ideas but I would make the suggestion that in the first example to give them all of that after they’ve had the experience in the restaurant. That will entice them to want to come back for more but not if they aren’t a regular customer then it seems more pushy to me. Just my thought process of course.

I’ve seen a lot of examples with the cards getting certain things off or you buy so many and get one for free. My Mom does that with her hearing aid batteries and when I use to purchase panty hose they did that for me too. We women had to buy them so it made me want to keep shopping at that store just because I knew I would get the last one for free.

Great share Mark and enjoy your week. Hope it’s started off well.

    • You make a really great point Adrienne!

But I think we both agree as experienced marketers, it would really best to simply
inexpensively test both approaches and carefully track you results.

And in short order the best approach will reveal itself! I love you suggestion BTW and I
would only advise any potential or current consultant customer and or client to not
      try and be a physic!LOL!

Let your market tell you! Not the other way around!LOL! Thanks for stopping by
and sharing your thoughts and offering your continuous support coach!

      Both are greatly appreciated!

  3. I agree these are very creative ideas Mark. I’d be really curious to see some stats on how people typically respond to a variety of incentives. The reason is that as a consumer I tend to not bother with such things as bonus cards, or punch cards because it’s such a pain in the rump to keep track – but then I don’t clip coupons either so I have no doubt I represent the minority. 🙂 Thanks for the inspiration!

    • You’re so right Marquita!

But that’s where and why some consistent and very inexpensive testing would strategically reveal
exactly what consistently produces the absolute most bang for your buck!

And once you discover from the few, you can roll it out to the many!

While I agree in a general sense that certain so called incentives may not produce dramatic results!

I guarantee you if billionaire Bill Gates sent a representative to some local mall and started randomly passing out
$100 dollars bills, within a very short period of time that mall would be overrun with people!LOL!

Because let’s face it, some incentives are simply more effective than others! Right? Thanks for stopping by, sharing your thoughts and
offering your continuous support! As always, both are greatly appreciated!

  4. Hey Mark,

You always come with some unique offline marketing techniques. These are some great examples you given and I really like the first one you mentioned. Making ways to bring more potential customers or giving out vouchers with a limited time to use them can never go wrong.

Also these are ways to figure out who your specific target market is! If they come back to use the vouchers or couples within that limited of time, then that is a great indicator! It’s definitely about marketing smart and leveraging your offers as much as you can to bring in more business!

Thanks for sharing! I hope you’re having a great week!

Thanks as always for extremely kind and encouraging words Sherman! And your
continued support! I totally appreciate it!

And as far as always providing some serious value goes, right back at you man!

Because I always learn plenty from studying your excellent posts! You really have a knack
for demystifying the techie! And just making it plain!
