Why Really Successful Entrepreneurs Rarely Look That Way To The General Public!

  (Not In The Beginning Anyway!)

So what’s the last or very latest book you’ve read, (or audio book) you’ve listen to,where the main characters entrepreneurial journey was chronicled and you were, to say the least, astounded to discover, unlike the larger than life folk lore that’s constantly been spread about them.

This (seemingly) larger than life entrepreneurial icon, (way before) they ever hit the (so called) big time, actually has some rather humble roots!

So needles to say, a ton of iconic entrepreneurs (of both) sexes, weren’t exactly poster kids, for Ivy league school recruiting material!

In fact, truth told, far more of them, didn’t come into their massive success, and or enormous fortunes, by way of fancy six figure -formal- educations! Correct?

And for those that have, that’s perfectly acceptable, because the main emphasis in this particular post, is what the vast majority of super successful entrepreneurs profiles looked like,l-o-n-g before all of the fame & fortune ever became a part of their everyday lives! 😀

Ever Notice How Some Of The Most Successful Entrepreneurs Rarely Start Out Looking That Way To The General Public?

Let me offer a concrete example or two. Take a look at these two potential applicants, for an advanced success training program of some kind, (and entrepreneur), you tell me, if you were a professional head hunter, looking for your cream of the crop, dream recruits.

If one or neither of these two potential applicants, would be worthy of you or your organization, investing any real (potentially) life changing resources in!

And (ladies & gentlemen) it’s not a crime to be as protective of your most valuable resources as possible! After all, your organization, is ultimately only going to be as successful as the individuals that are actively involved in it, correct?

1.) Potential applicant profile # one: Take a (hard look) at this first potential applicant’s immediate skill set and background, and see “how” much or how little it impresses you.

For starters, he has absolutely no formal college education of any kind! So he doesn’t have any advanced Master degrees from Harvard business school!

In fact, (truth told), he never even formally finished high school! He officially dropped out, near the end of his sophomore year!

And a couple of his recent jobs include, being a decent jazz pianist, and he also briefly sold paper cups, (at one point) to try and make ends meet! How we doing so far? Are you overly impressed, with his sparkling -power- resume of success! 😀

Successful Entrepreneurship Isn’t Really About Fancy Degrees Is It?

If that hasn’t overly impressed you, these next three revelations probably will!  He’s diabetic and also suffers from arthritis! And he’s just about to turn 54 years old!

Now that’s freaking impressive, is it not? I thought you might think so! Well, entrepreneur, if you must know, that’s just a small sample, of the late great Ray Kroc, (founder of) the McDonald’s empire’s, resume, prior to hitting the big time.

By first buying the restaurant from the McDonald brothers, and later franchising it all over the free world!(Way to go Ray!)

And I’d be willing to bet you, no major corporate head hunters, (having previously) looked – more like glanced at his feeble looking resume, would have ever thought him worthy, of anything more than a medium range paying custodial position! What say you?

It’s The Size And Commitment To Your Entrepreneurial Ideas Not the Fancy Degrees Which Ultimately Count!

2.) Potential applicant profile # two: Okay, let’s take a  closer look at the other potential applicant’s resume. This particular applicant, originally started out as a jock! That is until he was unexpectedly diagnosed with Crohn’s disease! And shortly there after, lost his full scholarship!Bummer! 🙁

And then was also let go by his employer at the time! And to top things off, his girlfriend at the time, kicked him to the curve as well!

But what you or she, probably didn’t realize is, (my blogging buddy) the one and only, Eli Seekins of (launchyourdreams.com) fame, was and is, determined to make one heck of a go of things!(You go cat!)

Savvy Entrepreneurs Face potentially Life Changing Obstacles Head On And Keep It Moving!

And that’s why he launched the blog he has today, and boldly moved forward, after facing (head on) some incredible, (not to mention), life changing obstacles!

You can and definitely should read part of his incredibly inspirational and totally awesome (entrepreneurial journey) at that link!

That is, if you wanna know how a real entrepreneurial balla does it!Ladies & gentlemen, (I share) these two classic examples of how two seemingly non entrepreneurs, (once again) proved both the critics and general public dead wrong! (Great job guys!)

Thank goodness it’s not about outer trappings, fancy Ivy league school educations, advanced MBA degrees, or previous business ownership, and or management skills etc!

Extremely Successful Entrepreneurs Focus On The inner Game Not Their Outward Appearances!

What is ultimately gonna decide, if you and I truly has what it takes to succeed, is our inner level of desire, drive and overall commitment!

Don’t you agree? Because clearly, these two classic examples, thoroughly indicate, why so many really successful entrepreneurs, (rarely) if ever, initially look successful to the general public!Would you not agree? Now as is customary during this part of our show.

  1. It’s often not the history that’s important but the aspirations and initiative people have to make their dreams a reality.

Fancy degrees are nice to have but not essential, hard work and the dedication to achieve goals are more often what makes a successful entrepreneur.

  2. Hi, Mark,

Great post and I love Eli Seekins and his blog!

I have a chronic illness and still work every day, even if it’s sometimes in my pj’s laying in bed 🙂

    Thanks so much,
    Sue

  3. Hey Mark!

Thanks for the kind words and for featuring me in your blog post.

I’ve noticed that entrepreneurs come in all shapes, sizes and backgrounds. But one thing they all have in common is that they don’t quit, even when it’s tough.

  4. Hi Mark,

First time I hear about those two entrepreneurs and I’m glad that you wrote about them in the post! What you said makes perfect sense though. It is not about the degrees but it is all about the passion and the devotion those people have so as to succeed. People want to learn from them because of their life experiences and how they can resonate with them. Inspiration and motivation for both sides is so amazing – entrepreneur and audience.

Amazing post as always, thank you for sharing!

  5. It’s pretty interesting to see the backgrounds of successful entrepreneurs, most of them had pretty ordinary lives but they focused 100% on their goals. I think most people think that entrepreneurs get lucky once but the truth is that they try hundreds of different things and work really hard for years before they see some success. Not to mention that most entrepreneurs don’t get anywhere. I love reading about success stories, even the stories that are not that successful, still shows that these people are real and have real life problems just like everyone.
