Be honest. How deep can you extend any type of paid advertising or promotional campaign? When all you have direct access to is your own funds. Exactly. On the other hand (entrepreneur.)
If you are of the mindset you can and must attempt to do everything on your own. And you absolutely believe no collaboration of any kind is definitely the way to go.
You will find it very hard, almost impossible to scale beyond what your own money and efforts can both start and maintain. Bare in mind. As you’re strategically A/B split testing ads. And at some point they’re simply not temporarily working.
And you pause them momentarily. Your ideal target audience doesn’t wait around for you or your major competitors to figure things out. Right? No way. On the other hand.
With the right strategic alliances. You or your major competitors don’t need nearly as much outrageously expensive, dismally performing, traditional advertising campaigns. You’re about to “discover” why….
The Good News Is You Definitely Don’t Need New Ways To Advertise In Order To Generate Massive Targeted Exposure!
Case in point. For a moment think about the multi billion dollar wedding industry. Within the entire industry you have closely related industries of all kinds. Which on their own gross hundreds of millions if not billions a year as well.
For example. The floral industry definitely does okay. Does it not? Absolutely. There are tons of valid reasons for flowers to be sent every year. Right? Then there’s the bridal dress industry.
And both weddings and receptions need to be hosted somewhere .Do they not? And you also need qualified wedding planners. Agreed? And let’s not forget the ever popular “Bridal Suites” in mostly local motel or hotels. And local photographers and on and on it goes.
Of course wedding invitations need to be printed up. Right? Local caterers. Top end DJ’s and bridesmaids specialty gifts. Just to name a few of the easy extremely low hanging fruit income streams.
Rest assured the most successful players in these various industries have already formed some extremely valuable JV (Joint Venture) aka strategic collaboration type of arrangements.
For example. The florist and wedding planner or wedding consultant. The wedding planner and the Dj. Or the limo service provider and the wedding specialty gift store owner (s.) etc.
And the best revenue generating arrangements typically include as many of the local players as possible.
Wanna Know How You Or Your Major Competitors Can Inexpensively Maintain Customer Loyalty?
As you think about all of these potentially profitable JV arrangements available to you or your major competitors. But for a moment shift your entire marketing perspective.
And consider “how” you or your major competitors could basically implement the exact same marketing approach. But in an entirely different, but related industry. Huh?
Say you’re one of the top beverage distributors in your local market. And your ideal customer currently has a total lifetime customer value metric of somewhere between $189- $4,500 dollars. Give or take over the next five to seven year period.
And in this particular case. You are being extremely proactive about getting exposure for some of your best tasting, mid level bottles of champagne. Which typically retails for $650 dollars per bottle. Say what?
Of course your actual hard cost is basically half in this particular case only. Just $325 dollars. This is why it would definitely make sense for you or your major competitors to rent a hall for anywhere from $500- $750 dollars for the night.
And hire one of your areas or districts top DJ’s or top local or district music acts for anywhere from $1,500- $3,000 dollars for the night. (Plus a few bottles of your best tasting bubbly.)
Provided they agree to help spread the word about your event(s), both on and off of social media.
You Wanna Know How To Drive Sales In Retail?
Here’s the other reason “why” both you or your major competitors want to avoid (at all cost!) the no collaboration mindset. The higher end DJ’s get hired to perform at some of your areas most poplar events, correct? For sure.
So they’re constantly doing their own form of power networking. So one of your arrangements with them is. Whenever they perform at local weddings of the higher affluent and influential. Or whenever they do any higher end corporate events.
Or higher end private parties etc. Simply for letting you end on it. You or your major competitors will gladly provide them with at least three bottles of your best mid level champagne.
Two to share at their event., And one to keep for themselves. Plus you’ll gladly provide them with at least five extremely time sensitive gift certificates for them to giveaway at these events. To whomever they wish to.
And every time at least three or more of you or your major competitors gift certificates gets redeemed before the handwritten expiration date expires. You or your major competitors will gladly provide them with paid limo service. To and from their next event. Say what?
Wanna Know How To Create A Personal Brand Which Inexpensively Creates A Lasting Impression?
For a moment let’s reverse the marketing approach. Huh? And go far deeper in just a little bit in part two. Okay? Let’s say it’s the DJ or one of the areas top performing music acts which sees the bigger marketing picture. Let’s say this particular-top local or top district DJ’s easily commands one event performance fees of anywhere from $1,500- $10,000 per corporate or private party event.
So the Dj or top performing local music act knows going in. When they and their ever expanding local network of influential men & women put the word out.
Both on and off of social media. About a local event where some of the most affluent and influential local players will be partying. They can easily draw 250- 500 of the local A- listers.
And if need be. A ton of local up and comers too. Which means an extremely marketing savvy beverage distributor. Who routinely sells mid level bottles of champagne which typically retail for anywhere between $500 – $650 dollars per bottle.
And their higher end champagnes usually start at $1,100 dollars per bottle. And the distributor can easily justify footing most of, if not all of the typical front end costs.
In order to expose their mid and high level champagnes to the affluent and influential locals. Many of whom have local and district corporate ties. Which means the long term, back end repeat sales.
Over the next five to seven year period. Will definitely be worth a ton of money on the back end. Because of all of the higher end repeat purchases. And the positive word of mouth and mouse buzz. A certain percentage of the local affluent and local influential can and definitely will provide. Right?
For these and many other extremely valid reasons. Hopefully you now better understand and better appreciate “why” the no collaboration” approach to marketing or promoting. Makes it extremely difficult. If not impossible for you or your major competitors to expand. Don’t you agree?

Well said, Mark!
Smart collaborations provide leverage for both parties. Networking has always been so effective online and offline, because it lets you tap into the hard work that person has done to build their following or customer-base.
When you can set up JVs or collaborations to be mutually beneficial for both people – as you regularly give great examples of, it’s a no-brainer.
