So How The Heck Does Understanding How To Make An Omelette Make You A Better Internet Marketer? Part Two

As you hopefully discovered in part one of this ongoing series, about understanding what it actually takes to make a rather tasty omelette,  and how doing so can actually make you and I much better Internet marketers. Don’t you agree?

That said, in part two let’s cover a few more often overlooked marketing basics, and that by doing so, will hopefully take your understanding to a much deeper level. Because remember, whether you’re running an offline traditional bricks and mortal business and or an online business with primarily digital products and services etc.

It’s still a business. Unless of course you’re doing it as a hobby. If you’re attempting to earn a real profit then you simply have to be mindful of your numbers.

And primarily if you’ve got more coming in than what’s currently going out. Because if not, you’re gonna eventually need to get a j-o-b! So you either work really hard to help build someone else’s dream or work really hard building your own!

Did you happen to notice that no matter which option that you choose, both options involve hard work! So it’s not a matter of if you’re going to work hard, it’s who’s dream are you going to work harder to build!

So How Does Understanding How To Make A Really Tasty Omelette Help You Be A Better Entrepreneur?

Just as a quick recap, just in case you’re coming into this series in part two instead of part one. As you  recall you were assigned daunting the task of cooking a really big breakfast for relatives that were temporarily visiting during the holidays. And you cooked an omelette, but because you dropped three of your original twenty eggs on on the floor on your way over to the hot skillet, you still went ahead and made the omelette anyway with the remaining seventeen eggs.

And the $64K thousand dollar question was asked. Which was, do you really think your relatives would have any idea that your rather tasty omelette that they were complimenting you on, was made with just 17 eggs instead of the original 20 that was supposed to be used?

No way, right? That’s why you’ve got to know your pertinent numbers in business.  Because case in point; let’s suppose a local furniture concern over the last 30 days spends a grand total $53,484 dollars on a combination of local newspaper, radio, direct mail  and TV ads etc.

And all of these ad campaigns convinced 347 first time  potential new customers to visit their showroom. Which means their cost per lead (CPL) for this particular month was $154.13 dollars and thirteen cents. ($53,484  divided by 347 = $154.13.) Or a $154 dollars per lead (CPL) as a practical matter.

So you propose they run a pay per click (PPC) ad campaign as a side by side comparison of cost per lead ad campaigns, and you suggest they start offing paying $1.25 per click, in order to get that all important first time visitor to their special lead capture page of their WordPress blog.

Here’s the point, once those first time visitors land on the furniture concern’s market tested lead capture page, they’re offered a free $50 dollar gas card and a time sensitive coupon good for a $20 dollar credit for lunch at the food mart next door! Provided they opt in and bring a friend 18 and over, that’s also a brand new potential first time customer with them on their very first visit!

So lets quickly do the math. They spent $1.25 per click to get that first time visitor to their site, plus offered them a free $50 dollar gas card, plus a a time sensitive gift coupon good for $20 dollars, provided they bring a new first time potential customer that’s 18 or over with them to the store on their very first visit.

(All just for opting in and becoming a subscriber and or mobile subscriber etc.)

That all adds up to a cost per lead (CPL) of $71.25. ($1.25 + $50 + $20 = $71.25) As opposed to what the were spending using their other more traditional advertising strategies. Which cost $154 per lead remember?

And just for sake of argument, let’s say they generate the exact same number of first time customers of 347 new comers. Only in this case, those 347 clicks only initially cost $433.75! (347 x $1.25 per click = $433.75.)

Comparing Numbers Really Helps You Put Things In The Proper Perspective!

(Don’t You Agree?)

Now that’s a far cry from the $53,484 they spent on a combination of local radio, TV and newspaper ads etc! Hard to believe right!?And let’s also say that half of the 347 first time customers also took advantage of the $20 dollar time sensitive lunch coupon offer, by bringing a friend over 18 with them to the store the very first time they visit.

So that adds an additional $3,470 dollars to their total outlay. (347  divided by 2 = 173.5 x $20 dollars = $3,470. That’s still a monthly savings of  $49,580.25 dollars per month! ($53,484 – $3,470 = $ savings per month!) Plus the original $433.75 spent on the PPC ad campaign. ($433.75 + $3,470 = $3,903.75)

And that equates to a yearly savings of  $594,963 dollars! Say what? ($49,580.25 savings per month x 12 months = $594,963 in total savings per year! Hard to believe right? That’s why it pays to know your numbers! Don’t you agree?

Now of course we know not everybody that clicked through to the site would opt in! But the real focus was and is to show you that there are some extremely viable marketing alternatives available!

And whether you’re talking about making an omelette or any type of paid ad campaign, it really helps to know your numbers, that way you can make an intelligent assessment of how and where to allocate your advertising dollars! Don’t you agree?

  1. The post was really informative and interesting. I too agree with the part that the internet marketing is way less costly than the usual costly media advertisement.

  2. When just starting it is really difficult to add up the Math the way you explain it. Unless you have been taught how this Math works many a times one thinks he is running at a loss and would give up that campaign. Thanks for sharing, it helps so things make sense as a new marketer.
