Three Deadly Ways Your Comprehensive Marketing Plan Is The Definition Of Selfish!

Have you ever been at family gathering or social function of some kind, and there’s one  particular person there that is just totally into themselves? You know the type I’m referring to  don’t you? They are without a doubt, the definition of selfish! In other words, they are a  classic example of the “myself sandwich!”

Their entire conversation revolves project” me!” Seriously, have you ever had the displeasure of  being around a person like this? And hopefully, you’re not being the perpetrator being described  here, right?

Anyway, from a business marketing message stand point, there is only one  thing that remotely  approaches a person with an extremely bad case of “it’s all about me!” And that’s a small  business owner and or service provider that projects a marketing message that’s all about, who  else? The business, and not the customer or intended prospect!

Surely you’ve seen or noticed this type of entrepreneurs long term profit repelling marketing  messages and or marketing materials. If not, the remainder of this post will elaborate on three of the more obvious ways marketers repel their intended audience.

Three Surefire Signs Your Comprehensive Marketing Plan May In Fact Be The Definition Of Selfish!

It may not always be readily obvious when a small business owner may be on the verge of bankruptcy, but without a doubt, the following three  surefire deadly signs, clearly indicate that their current comprehensive marketing plan, is the definition of selfish.

1.) Surefire deadly sign # one: Entrepreneur, asap, look over (make that) re-examine all of your written marketing materials. Both on and offline! Did you happen to notice all the I,we, me type of profit repelling copy writing errors all over the place! Yea, that stuff is repelling your potential target market big time!

You come off like a classic myself sandwich! Your marketing materials are all about you! And not adequately focusing on how your business, product or service, helps solves your target audiences problems and effectively addresses their major issues or concerns.

2.) Surefire deadly sign # two: Have you really stopped to look at your totally one sided social media messages? It’s borderline if not flat out valueless spam! You’re not sharing anything helpful, educational or of value to your dedicated followers on either Facebook or twitter.

You’re just constantly pitching.  And blowing off your opportunities to really connect with them and form some long lasting relationships!

Why do you think such a high percentage of your twitter followers have stopped following you? Or why most of the first time visitors to your WordPress blog, not only don’t stick around for very long. But that’s also the reason a staggering 99% leave and aren’t coming back!

Because far too much emphasis of your blogs message is on sales, not service!

3.) Surefire deadly sign # three: And finally, with regards to your all too infrequent WordPress blogging habits. Perhaps you haven’t noticed but, you practically never ever reference other proven expert sources, by way of your links!

For ex: you really wanna know how to effectively generate more highly targeted traffic to your site, that actually converts? Then you probably wanna read this excellent post by one of my coaches, Internet rock star Enstine Muki, where he reveals why getting more traffic to your site, may not be the real issue!

Your links almost always point to (either) one of your own products or services or to one of your affiliate products or services! Meaning- you practically never just share links to other helpful resources that will definitely help your target audience/customers or clients.

Entrepreneur, without a doubt  these three surefire deadly signs,  (and others!) are proof positive that your overall comprehensive marketing plan is the definition of selfish! Would you not agree?

  1. Wow Mark,

I did NOT know there are so many ways you can define Selfishness… 🙂

But I believe it does NOT matter what you think or do you can NOT be a Selfless person or internet marketer or even a company…

For example, you want to help your clients or readers “Selflessly” because it will make sure that you will earn their trust and respect and eventually you will get business… So, the driving force behind your “Selfless” act is “YOU and YOUR profit”…

    What say you???…

    Regards…

    • Absolutely!

What you say is so true! Bu as you pointed out, the key is you and I as extremely
savvy marketers, you must put your customers and clients wants, needs and desires above our own!

Otherwise our selfish approach to marketing/advertising, will keep us frustrated and broke!

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts! I definitely appreciate it!

  2. I guess we all know some people like that, both in real life and online. The 80/20 rule is a great one on so many levels.

As network marketers or internet marketers, we would do well to stop and think — how do we like to be treated, and what do we like to see when we visit others’ sites — and do likewise on our own.

    • You got that right!

I couldn’t agree more with you Willena!

Far too many on and offline marketers (no matter) what their particular niche is, don’t realize
or appreciate, that they need to focus on how their particular product or service helps their
prospects and not so much on trying to make sales!

Thanks for stopping by and sharing you extremely valuable insights!
And for your continuous support! I definitely appreciate both!

  3. Hi Mark,

You nailed it here. We cannot focus on ‘self’, even though it seems counter-intuitive. Anyone who is interested in our services or is thinking of someone who might be interested in our services is only thinking about ‘what is in it for me’. The more you speak with this in mind, the faster we will grow our business.

    Love the “Myself Sandwich”…good one!

    • Bingo!

I couldn’t agree more Rachel! But it’s so darn easy to lose sight of that fact, isn’t it?

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your insights! Both are much appreciated!
