So ladies & gentlemen, by any chance, (and it’s) certainly no big deal if you haven’t, but have you ever seen the “romantic comedy” feature film, “He’s Just Not That Into You?”
Starring among other fairly recognizable stars, Drew Barrymore?
If you haven’t, the overall main premise of the comedy is, one person is actively pursuing, and desperately trying to have a personal relationship, with someone that, (you guessed it!), for whatever reasons, simply isn’t interested in them, in the least! 😎
And of course, right about now you’re struggling, trying to make the connection, (if any) between that movies title and any type of successful affiliate marketing, correct?
Well, in a nutshell, (probably) the overwhelming, number one reason “why” a staggering 95% (or more) of all aspiring newbie affiliate marketers (continually) struggle, then ultimately fail (miserably!)
It’s because, when you boil it all down, and take away all the superficiality and remove the marketing fluff!
They simply have no real clue whatsoever, (how to) actually market anything, be it a business, product and or service! On or offline!
Irregardless of whether they’re attempting to do so, via the affiliate marketing route or not! You’ll see concrete evidence of that just ahead! So please stay tuned!
So What Are These Three Incredibly Simple Reasons Why A Staggering 95% Of All Aspiring Newbie Affiliate Marketers Ultimately Fail?
(And What Must You Do To Avoid That Happening To You?)
Okay, is it alright (for you) to take the “affiliate marketers common sense” litmus test?
Just to quickly establish, “if”, you’re in fact playing with a full deck! 😎 Because truth told, for an extremely small amount of you, that may in fact be your major problem, in which case you can definitely stop reading and move on now.
And for the rest of you, (but) especially you aspiring newbie affiliate marketers, please pay close attention!
Because you’re about to discover, “why” things haven’t exactly been working out!
1.) Reason why affiliate marketers ultimately fail #one: Right off the bat, a ton of would be (aspiring) affiliate marketers, simply have not totally come to grips with the fact, that actually, (first) and foremost, they’re running a business!
A business that has real ongoing expenses! Which also means, if (for whatever reasons) you’re business income, doesn’t (at some point) will exceed your outgoing expenses, you either have a gloried hobby!
Or else you have a business that (unfortunately), is on the fast track to bankruptcy!Case in point: Here’s an all too typical marketing situation, (from the business numbers standpoint), for a ton of would be (aspiring) newbie affiliate marketers,
See if this (real world) situation seems remotely familiar.
Far Too Many Aspiring Newbie Affiliate Marketers Treat Their Businesses Like A Glorified Hobby! (Instead Of A Real Business!)
So you (finally) decided to initially market/promote, this extremely helpful ebook, that currently retails for $47 dollars, (or X.) The actual numbers are totally irrelevant here! Entrepreneur, pay close attention to the math!
And the vendor/marketer that actually owns the rights to the ebook, they pay all of their (first tier) affiliates, 50% of the sales prices and (as soon as) you’ve grossed $1,000 (or X number of) dollars in front end gross commissions, they automatically start receiving 80% of the front end commissions, on each front end sale thereafter!
So (initially) on their very first few sales of the ebook, they earn a 50% commission of $23.50 cents per sale.
Far Too Many Aspiring Affiliate Marketers Don’t Know How To Properly Calculate Their Numbers!
But here’s the thing: the average, completely clueless, newbie affiliate marketer, spends somewhere between $75 – $125 dollars on Pay Per Click (PPC) Facebook ad campaigns, and another $100 dollars on two additional “solo ad” campaigns, promoting the ebook.
Which means, (so far) they’re already $225 dollars in ongoing gross advertising/promotional expenses, before they’ve even sold their very first ebook!
Or whatever the particular product or service they’re currently promoting! But their commission per sale, is just $23.50 per sale!(Or X!)
Which means, just to barely approach breaking even, they’ve gotta sell at least nine ebooks, in order to gross $211.50 dollars! ($23.50 x 9 = $211.50)
Any idea “why” this aspiring affiliate marketer, given the previous (all too common) situation will probably, eventually fail? Just like a staggering 95% of their peers!
Being Successful At Affiliate Marketing Requires The Affiliates To Be Totally Sure Of What They’re Actually Getting Into!
2.) Reason why affiliate marketers ultimately fail # two: This next potential (pitfall), involves aspiring affiliate marketers being aware of “how” they actually get paid by the vendors, whose products or services they agressively promote!
And here (unfortunately) is another one of those potential dark spots,(because) if the aspiring newbie affiliate marketer isn’t careful, they will end up promoting a vendors product or service and not getting paid!
And the vendor, will have done (absolutely) nothing illegal in the process!Say what? Here’s why? The vendor will supply you (or I) with a unique affiliate link ID.
And any time a potential buyer clicks on your affiliate link, a cookie, (a fancy piece of software), will record that ID number and, (sadly) not all cookies are permanent!
Unfortunately Far Too Many Aspiring Newbie Marketers Learn How The Affiliate Marketing Game Is Really Paid Through Outrageously Expensive Real World Mistakes!
Some affiliate cookies are for the life of your involvement with that particular vendor, but not all of them are! And of course, most newbie affiliate marketers don’t even know to inquire about this sort of thing!
And as a direct result, they often don’t find out, until it’s way too late, that their particular vendors affiliate ID cookies, only last for the first 90 days, then they are no longer active!
Which means, (entrepreneur) if for whatever reasons, one of your visitors, subscribers (and or) current customers, clicks on one of your affiliate links, but doesn’t actually purchase anything for the next 90 days. Guess what?
Successful Affiliate Marketers Definitely Due Their Homework! (And So Should You!)
Your vendors cookies automatically expires, and if you’re (lead) happens to purchase on the 91 st day, (guess who?) doesn’t receive a commission, even though it was your efforts, money and other extremely valuable resources that originally produced that lead!I’m afraid so!
So “what’s” the overall lesson? Make darn sure you find out, before you sign up for any type of affiliate marketing program, (if) your vendors “cookies” are of the permanent or of the temporary 90 day less variety.
(Otherwise, your vendor may be able to legally avoid paying you any potential commissions!) It happens far more than you might think!
Your Top Affiliate Marketers Eventually Create Their Very Own Products And Services Too!
3.) Reason why affiliate marketers ultimately fail # three: And the finally, most aspiring newbie affiliate marketers, never experience the joys of (both) owning and controlling their very own products and or services!
Or they always find themselves constantly adjusting to some vendors promotional requirements and conditions etc!
It’s almost like being totally dependent on a single job! If they employer decides to move to the other side of the country, you either have to comply or find yourself another employer, (whose) hopefully as comparable!Right?
Well, that’s basically the three main reasons “why” a staggering 95% (or more) of all aspiring affiliate marketers constantly struggle, but ultimately fail!Any questions? Now as is customary during this part of our show.

Hello Mark,
What a thought provoking post mate.
As an affiliate marketer the concept of the potential “90 day cookie” issue was one of the reasons why my affiliate marketing offers are only ones with lifetime cookie connections to me.
One of the big mistakes I see many affiliate marketers making involves not really knowing who is their target audience/market/niche – whatever term you prefer. And consequently not fully understanding what are the wants and needs of their particular marketplace.
So if you don’t know your audience how in the heck can you effectively market to them?
Affiliate marketers not only have to have clarity about the target audience but also discover where this audience hangs out online.
With this knowledge they can then far more effecively attract (notice I didn’t say “drive”) traffic to their affiliate offers.
My other real issue with affiliate marketing is the dirty little secret that most product vendors never disclose to their affiliate network.
Sure if you get your target audience right, discover where they hang out and what their pressing needs and wants are then you can be positioned to start making money from affiliate marketing. It’s just a shame that despite making money you will probably never be making any profits.
For many affiliate marketers the costs of getting their traffic to their affiliate offers (time and money) usually exceeds the revenue they receive from the product vendors – even if they offer 100% commission payments. Why? Because most of the real money is not made on the lower priced front end affiliate products but rather on the much higher priced backend products that the vendor then offers to the new customers the affiliate marketer provided.
And in many cases the vendor does not split the commission earnings from these upsell offers.
There is a solution to this dilemna for affilliate marketers and that is to research and adopt only affiliate products where they can earn money at all stages in the sales funnel – not just the front end offers.
That’s my 2 cents worth for today Matk.
As lawys enjoyed your valuable post
Best wishes from a remote Thai village entrepreneur

Mark Newsome recently posted…Three Simple Reasons Why A Staggering 95% Of All Newbie Affiliate Marketers Constantly Fail!Part Two
Gotta tell you Mark your second point is a real eye-opener. I’ll be the first to admit I’m pretty naive when it comes to the less than honest things people can and will do, but it never occurred to me that a company would purposely play games with the timing on paying affiliate commissions. But the way you explain it makes sense, and is definitely something to be aware of. Thanks so much!

It’s sad but, unfortunately so true M!
And we both know, 99% of the vendors, with legitimate affiliate programs, that use the
90 day or less, or the non lifetime type of cookies in their affiliate
tracking software, simply are not readily disclosing this all too common
occurrence!
Which has to make you wonder, if more newbies were made aware of this
sort of all too common occurrence, if they would be as enthusiastic,in promoting
their products or services!
As always, thanks for your continued support and incredibly generous words
of encouragement!
