So ladies & gentlemen, by chance, do you happen to have a favorite recording artist? Be it an individual and or group? And no it doesn’t necessarily matter “what” type of music they play.(Basically whatever floats your boat. 😎 )

Any heavy metal (aka), “metal heads” and or hard core fans of “gangsta rap” in the house by chance?Just checking.

Anyway, what (immediately) comes to mind when you hear the name of  some modern day “pop music” icons, like “Lady Gaga!”

Or an old school pop music icon like “Madonna”. Say what you want, pro or con about either “diva”, but they’ve both carved out instantly recognizable “brands” for themselves, have they not?

And made a ton of money in the process, while selling millions upon millions of records worldwide!

While they also routinely go on world tours, and play to sold out venue after venue, entertaining their adoring fans!What a life?

But here’s a little trivia question for you.“How” many of you are huge fans of solo guitarist “Robert John Burck?” Who?

Right! However, were I to ask, “how” many of you, (especially) the ladies, are adoring fans of “The Naked Cowboy?”Now, (at least) some of you would know exactly who I’m referring to, right? 😎

1.) Critical marketing secret # one: First of all, as I pointed out in paragraph one, ask if the average persons knows “who” Robert John Burck is and almost without exception, you’ll get blank stares from  most people!

Some might then speculate if he was some “late” political and or iconic sports figure they should know or remember! 😎 However, mention his monacker “The Naked Cowboy” and that readily rings a far more familiar bell!

Especially among the ladies! 😎  So the very first,critically important marketing secret Robert John Burck (aka) “The Naked Cowboy” definitely knows and understands that you probably don’t!

He gets the whole “branding” thing and you probably don’t!I mean, “how” often do you see an extremely well toned hunk, in nothing more than his trademark cowboy boots, cowboy hat, stylish underwear, string guitar, belting out tunes in the extremely frigid dead of winter!

In of all places, “Times Square” in New York City! If that’s not a text book example of “Seth Godins”, “The Purple Cow” affect, I surely don’t know what is!Don’t you agree?

Now granted, it would (most definitely) be in our best interest to try and find other far more practical methods of standing out, within our respected industries! 😎

2.) Critical marketing secret # two: So here’s a quick question: Have you ever eaten at McDonald’s? Honestly, would you say they’ve got the really best tasting burgers you’ve ever had?

Probably not, right? Although truth told, over the years, I’ve had several really good friends and some relatives state (publicly), how much they really enjoy and actually prefer Mickey D’s ‘s french fries, over the other major burger sellers.

But has McDonald’s ever claimed to have the best tasting burger/s or fries? Nope!

And when you hear the name, “The Naked Cowboy”, does that even suggest the guy’s going for the title of best or “greatest” string guitar player in the world? Nope!

Instead, he’s going clearing going for the novelty angle here, is he not? So the point being entrepreneur; “Robert John Burck” has created an extremely recognizable (and unique) “brand” for himself, has he not!

Because I sincerely mean (no offense) intended here!

You put that exact same guy in plain street clothes, plop him down in “Times Square” in the dead of winter and he’s just another wannabe playing a guitar for few bits here and there!! Nothing particularly novel about what he’s doing!Right?

So effective “branding” is more about strategic marketing and positioning, as it is about pure talent! Especially in the case of “The Naked Cowboy!” And in an extremely definite effort to prove my last point!
