So What Profitable Lesson Can A Nagging Recession Teach Cash Strapped Entrepreneurs?

So (tell me) if this next common occurrence, sounds all too familiar to a ton of aspiring entrepreneurs.

Let’s say you run a (fairly) successful, local Mom & Pop business/service of some kind.

And currently, you’ve got a total (full & part time) workforce of twenty individuals.

And on this particular day, you’ve got two already scheduled off, and two others, unexpectedly call in sick.

Which means, (good or bad) right or wrong, the remaining 16 workers, are expected to be as productive, as the twenty (full staff) would normally be!Correct?

Sound all too familiar?(Just add the actual number of total employees, to your given business/service) and you definitely have the picture, correct?

So what potentially profitable marketing lesson(s) does that, (all too common) particular situation, and or can a prolonged nagging recession, possibly teach extremely savvy entrepreneurs (such as yourself?)

So What Is This Potentially Profitable Marketing Lesson A Nagging Recession Can And Definitely Should Teach Extremely Savvy Entrepreneurs?

So have you ever noticed, what inevitably happens, during a prolonged, (local) recession? First off, when local residents have less discretionary income, they tend to cut way back, on non essential spending!Right? (Absolutely!)

And if the recovery isn’t fast enough, this temporary (and or) permanent loss in company revenue, means, (unfortunately) some or quite a few workers/employees, will either be temporarily laid off, or terminated altogether!Sound all too familiar? I thought it might.

And so, (how) or what, (if anything) does this have to do with you, and or the future of your cash starved small business and or service, you skeptically ask?

Just Because There’s A Nagging Recession Doesn’t Necessarily Mean Your Small Business Has To Cut Back!

Mainly this: if or once your “solo ads” or PPC (Pay Per Click) ad campaigns, or your offline direct snail mail postcard campaigns, (and or) long form sales letters fall far short of being profitable!Guess what? You can no longer afford to continue paying for them, right?

So just like your physical employees, facing temporary and or permanent job loss, because of a lack of revenue being generated!(Or they’re temporarily forced to go from full to part time employment, to keep from being permanently laid off altogether!)

So it goes with your dismally performing paid advertising campaigns.Which means, your remaining paid, marketing/advertising and or promotional strategies, are expected to carry even more of the load, in order to offset those non performing campaigns!(A mighty tall order for sure!)

Unless there just happens to be an extremely viable alternative or two!(And of course there most certainly is!)

Your Lead Generation Opportunities Can Actually Strive And Flourish During A Down Turn In Your Local Economy!

Thank goodness, there is one universally accepted skill, that consistently offers at least 700% better results, just for becoming competent, not great!Say what? Nod your heads cadets, it’s true.

That of course being, developing persuasive copy writing skills.Think about it for just a second. Once you (and or) an associate, and or co-owner, becomes competent at persuasive copy writing to some degree or another, look at these seven bare bones minimum areas, you can positively affect your companies bottom line, going forward.

1.) Potentially positively affected area #one: You no longer have to pay, (sometimes quite a bit), for a separate hired gun “copy writer” to write your opt in email/ mobile marketing subject lines!

Once you or somebody within your company and or organization, is at least semi competent at it, you’ll not only experience higher gross profits, from more of your sales email messages being read and acted upon!

You’ll also simultaneously lower your upfront, out of pocket cost, from having to hire-potentially expensive- outside sources, to consistently write them for you!

2.)  Potentially positively affected area #two: By the same token, (when you) or an associate become more persuasive copy writers, both the copy on your (mobile responsive) WordPress blog, and or your actual (online) sales pages, will definitely begin to convert more of, both your paid and free (organic) traffic, you and others drive to your website/blog.

Again, without your company, and or service having to consistently write checks, to outsource all of  your ongoing copy writing assignments.

All Serious Entrepreneurs Have Certain Skills They Have To Develop Or Else!

3.)  Potentially positively affected area #three: And there’s no question, being able to get your point across, in a 140, (now 280) characters or less, will definitely increase the engagement of your tweets!Or postings on LinkedIn etc.

4.)  Potentially positively affected area # four: And as your copy writing skills gradually improve, it will definitely help improve, (both) the overall quality of your blog posts, as well as the overall conversion rates as well!

5.)  Potentially positively affected area # five: And of course, along with these increased copy writing skills, will become your ability to write, much higher converting offline (short & long) sales copy as well!Meaning; your offline, snail mail post card campaigns, will definitely begin to convert better and more often.

6.) Potentially positively affected area # six: And don’t discount your ability to (consistently) write much higher converting (PPC ) Pay Per Click, display and or classified ad campaigns as well!

Entrepreneur, consistently being able to write higher converting PPC add campaigns, is definitely a bankable skill, you can readily offer or barter with some of your top (JV) joint venture partners!

And or barter with other non competing small business owners, and or service providers, for either standard compensation, and or access to other extremely valuable, tangible and or intangible assets they currently have or will have, in the not so distant future!Don’t you agree?

Developing Basic Copy Writing Skills Is A Gateway For Savvy Entrepreneurs!

7.)  Potentially positively affected area # seven: The better your paid “solo ad” campaigns convert,(obviously) the more leads, sales and total gross income, your business/service will make, right?

And all the while, you’re doing so, for less money upfront!Ladies & gentlemen, can you live with that?

While this is all just a tip of the marketing iceberg!Hopefully you can see and appreciate, “how” even developing basic copy writing skills, will help any profit seeking entrepreneurs, work their way through, and out of a nagging recession!Don’t you agree? Now as is customary during this part of our show.

  1. Hi Mark,

I’ve always thought that copywriting was one of the most important skills for any businessperson to have, unless they have the money to be able to afford to out-source the job.

Likewise, I think a recession can be an opportunity for online marketers, and those of us offering”second income” type products can do particularly well when times are hard for people in conventional jobs.
