So do you happen to know anybody that currently works in the radio industry? Because if you do, they will tell you “how” savvy potential advertisers (will) often put on the charm and show up to the station with a dozen donuts or gourmet chocolate chip cookies or coffee or chocolates and or tickets to this and that etc!
These are just a few of their proven (goodwill inducing) strategies, that help make their so called (business opportunities) practically irresistible!
In short, potential advertisers (strategically use) ethical bribes of all kinds, in order to attempt to get on the good side of, (and or curry) favor with the most popular radio hosts, that have the biggest market share of that potential advertisers desired local audience.
Nothing new there, right?Well, by the same token (entrepreneur), there is absolutely no reason “why” you and I can’t take a page from their proven playbook, and do the exact same for our best current and future customers and or clients!Right?
So How Do Extremely Savvy Entrepreneurs Make Their Business Opportunities Practically Irresistible?
Let’s take a really simple, (yet extremely major) hypothetical marketing example and show you “how” extremely savvy business owners, strategically use ethical bribes to (not only) create way more business than their major competitors do, but also generate a ton of on and offline positive word of mouth and mouse too!
And “how” they literally get the social media platforms lit up with positive word of mouth buzz! And cause an avalanche of long term goodwill and water cooler gossip for days if not weeks! 😎
In other words, watch “how” they effectively manage the (on and offline word of mouth) grapevine! And all because (like it or not fellas!), certain extremely savvy entrepreneurs, know “how to” effectively utilize the “secret weapon!”
Which is what you skeptically ask?Why it’s none other than potential, current and or future female customers! 😎 Bingo!
Let’s say the number three rated local jeweler wants to make a really big splash in their local market.
But instead of trying to go head to head with the number one rated jeweler in their local market, and literally spend themselves into partial and or complete bankruptcy!
They take a more underground ninja marketing approach. So they contact a few local cruise ships (to begin with) that often sponsor really fun cruise ship events, like (either) annual Halloween party night and or “Bingo” nights, or special Valentines Day cruise and dinner dance events and or New Years eve cruises events etc.
And here’s how they make those nights really memorable for the ladies (18 and over!) They make arrangements for the cruise director’s staff to knock on the cabin door of every female passenger (that they) can pre determine is at least 18 and over.
Ever Notice How Some Of The Best Small Business Marketing Opportunities Just Flat Out Make Sense?
And they present them with two things:
(A.) They offer them a flyer that invites the ladies to a private fashion show on the upper deck (B.) And they also hand them a nice looking gift wrapped box, that has one really nice women’s diamond studded earring in it!With a retail value of $200 dollars!
And the two sided business card (taped to the top inside of the box), informs them that, just by attending the “fashion show”, they automatically get the other diamond studded earring, that makes the total perceived value $400 dollars!
Let’s say there are easily 400 people (or more) on board these really cool cruises and half or two hundred of them are women over 18! 😎
And not wishing to sound too pie in the sky here! Let’ say only 190 of these women decide the “fashion show” is definitely worth attending, in order to (if nothing else) get that other diamond studded earring! 😉 Is that reasonable?
And don’t worry, those remaining ten ladies, that for whatever reasons decided not to attend, they’ll most certainly regret it!You’ll see “why” in just a few! 😎
So here’s the the next thing the savvy jeweler does, in order to create some serious long term (positive) word of mouth and mouse buzz!
Unbeknownst to any of the 190 (plus) ladies in attendance to the fashion show. The lady that actually spends the most money at the event, guess what?
They are going to win an absolutely beautiful diamond studded necklace, with a retail value of $2,500 dollars! Can you say twitter, FB, Pintrest and Instagram? 😎
Can You See Any Of The Ladies In Attendance Not Texting Other Girlfriends Like Crazy Before They Ever Leave The Ship!
Next, every lady that spends at least $200 dollars, (or X) they automatically get to enter a “raffle” where they can spend a one time entry fee of $500 dollars for a chance to win one of the $2,500 dollar diamond studded necklaces as well!
And one extremely lucky lady, that spent at least $200 dollars, will also win $500 dollars in cruise ship credits, that they can spend on whatever they want, but the chips expire by the time the cruise ends! 😎
But they can only win that fabulous prize, if they opt in to the jewelers email list! Who would have thought? 😎 Entrepreneur, can you see how, even the third rate jeweler in any given local market, could strategically use various types of “ethical bribes” in order to make their business opportunities practically irresistible?Say yes!
In part two, we’ll see how they go even further, without spending themselves into bankruptcy trying to to do!See you in part two!Until then…

Hi Mark. As a seasoned cruise veteran, I’ve seen these types of things used a lot. Almost every cruise port has a duty-free shopping mall full of things that my husband and I don’t care to buy – liquor, cigarettes, cigars, and jewelry. We’re just simple hillbilly tee-totalers who don’t smoke LOL. But is always a ‘port shopping guide’, a conspiracy between the ship and the port that tells cruisers where they can find the best deals. And the night before we dock, there are always coupons in our mailbox for ‘free this’ or ‘whatever % off”‘.
And of course the ship has things to buy, too. We can usually pick up a free bracelet from jewelers wanting you to buy something expensive. The art auctions always offer free champagne. The cruise industry has definitely got your idea down.
This is an idea that could be scaled down in all kinds of ways for the small business person. Some brainstorming can help entrepreneurs start to build a list of strategies to use in their own niche. Thanks for sharing!
All the best,
Leslie

So I made the mistake of taking a drink of my coffee just as I started to read your article and came close to spitting it on the screen from laughing about your examples of “ethical bribes” and radio stations! Since I used to carry around the handle of “cookie lady” because my ethical bribe was homemade chocolate chip cookies I can certainly relate Mark. 🙂 No question this strategy works, so I’m looking forward to reading more in your next post!

radio station hosts in my area, who also happens to be the owner and station manager,
mentioned how many local vendors periodically show up (unannounced) with among other
free goodies,guess what?
Why none other than homemade chocolate chip cookies or a dozen donuts and coffee from an extremely
popular local bakery!
