How Come So Many Potentially Successful Entrepreneurs Worry Way Too Much About The Wrong Things?

So ladies & gentlemen, have you ever heard the name “Corrie ten Boom?” If not, then you may not recognize this incredibly powerful quote. “Worry does not empty tomorrow of it’s sorrow. It empties today of it’s strength.”

Kinda sums things up pretty nicely, don’t you agree? The thing is, while most (extremely savvy), successful entrepreneurs, are totally familiar with the 80/20 concept.

They spend the vast majority of their 80% of the mental/emotional side of being an entrepreneur, constantly worrying way too much, on too many of the wrong things!

And as a direct result, not only are they are less successful than they can (and or) should be!

But the successes they do enjoy, are often very short lived, because of the constant emotional and mental turmoil they’re in!Stop it already!Give yourself and every body else around you, a much needed break! Before it’s too late!

So Why Do So Many Potentially Successful Entrepreneurs Constantly Worry Way Too Much About All The Wrong Things?

(And Why You Definitely Need To Prevent This Type Of Mindset From Negatively Affecting You!)

Seriously, if this sort of  viral negative mindset, (and or) temporary wave of collective, (non productive) entrepreneurial thinking, isn’t put in check soon! The next wave of franchises sold on a massive scale, probably need to be “Entrepreneur Crisis Center Helplines!”

Because way too many would be entrepreneurs, are just too far gone on the emotional deep end, when it comes to constantly being in worry mode, about the wrong stuff!

They’ll voluntarily invest 80% or more of their available mental energy & laser focus, on stuff that really is so minuscule in real importance, by comparison!

When they should be devoting the vast majority of their mental focus on trying to constantly figure out, “how to” better serve their customers & clients, better than their (ever growing) competition does!

Constantly Worrying About The Wrong Things Doesn’t Ultimately Lead To Long Term Success!

Case in point!Take my buddy, (who also) just happens to be one of the most dynamic, charismatic, go getting type of entrepreneurial minds around! (The guy has got swagger and then some!)

He’s a very professional and extremely successful small business owner/service provider, that just happens to be in the (highly competitive), and as he likes to often emphasize, extremely cut throat computer repair/IT consulting industry!

The guy is a true leader and he’s taught me (and continues) to teach me a 1,000 times more, than he claims I’ve ever shared with his lean mean operating machine! 😎

Case in point: Just one of the super simple, (yet proven) marketing strategies I gladly shared with him and a few of his key people, helped his (at that time), three stores,(start immediately grossing) an additional $500 dollars per week, per store in found revenue!

He now has five stores, (and still) rapidly growing, implementing these proven marketing gems! 😎 Pardon my (egotistical digression there! 😎 )

The point is (entrepreneur), if you were to cruise over to www.computer-answers.com. You can get a small glimpse at this high octane go getters (steadily growing) operation!

Yes You Most Certainly Need To Be Concerned Entrepreneur! (But See To It That Your Worry Is Focused In The Right Areas!)

Case in point, (my entrepreneurial buddy Paul) that was just referenced in the last paragraph. He shared with me, when he first started his computer repair/consulting business, he was actually working full time at Home Depot!Say what?

And he was highly encouraged by a friend of a relative, to put his computer tech schooling knowledge to work! So he finally decided to do so and initially paid  for a small display ad in one of the many local throwaway guides in the area.

Because at the time, that’s about all he could comfortably afford! 😎 But here’s the kicker! He also admitted, at the time, he did his repairs on call, by coming directly to his customers and he did so by way of his (ten speed ) bike! Come again? 😎

That’s correct. He didn’t even have a used car at the time. So it was a combination of (public transportation), local bus, cab or his extremely reliable ten speed bike! 😎

Because in the very humble beginnings of his computer repair/consulting business, he didn’t even have his own crummy retail space yet!

Successful Entrepreneurs Maximize Their Opportunities Not Make Excuses For What They Don’t Currently Have!

And yet, in spite of what he didn’t have, he boldly forged ahead and slowly gained traction! And you best believe (at least) some of those early potential customers, were somewhat put off by a (so called) computer repair, trouble shooting expert, that did their house calls by way of a ten speed bicycle!  😎

And that’s the point ladies & gentlemen! In the beginning, Paul didn’t focus 80% of his mental and emotional energy on “what” conventional society says successful computer repair consultants entrepreneurs are supposed to have!No way!

Or what about successful- work at home Mom, freelance writer & Coach Elna Cain. When Elna initially got started with her freelance writing service , she had (and still has) twin toddlers and 95% percent of her freelance work, has absolutely nothing to do with the area her conventional degree is in!

And yet, in spite of the fact she was a (self proclaimed), green as grass- novice when she started! She now not only has a legion of growing fans (such as myself!)

But she’s expanded her business model to include personalized, one on one coaching and she’s currently in the process of launching her very own “how to” course on becoming a successful freelance writer!

Don’t Be Or Become a Prisoner Worry! (Instead Use Your Creative Energy To Move Your Business Or Service Forward!)

But neither one of two these incredibly talented, successful entrepreneurs would have ever done so, if all they constantly focused on was, “what” they didn’t initially have!Or their lack of hours to work on their business!

Or they’re lack of current support from their, you fill in the blank! Or the fact, that when they started, they had no idea “how to” properly set up a self hosted, WordPress blog etc!

Or the seven hundred and fifty thousand other reasons “why” people in their position or background, can’t do X, Y or Z!

Don’t you agree? Any questions! Now as is customary during this part of our show.

  1. Hi Mark,

Great post. I just met Elna this past week myself. I have taken advantage of her free course and looking forward to working on it.

I find that I tend to worry too much about things I have no control over, so more stress, leads to less work and it all becomes a viscious cycle.

Thanks as always for sharing your knowledge with us.

  2. Mark,

You are so right on! I have a few online friends who continue to focus on their excuses or just make the tasks so overwhelming that they don’t begin. Of, if they do start, they have such high expectations and expect to do so much that they stop soon after starting. They listen to self-proclaimed gurus who say you have to do x, y and z, and if all they know how to do is x, then they stop doing anything. Or they listen to someone explain that you have to have a large list to get 100’s of people buying, so they give up if they think they will only get a few buyers. They think they need to be the very best and do something so spectacular that others have not yet done or that they have to imitate the “gurus” and have similar success.

All of that type of worry and unattainable aspirations (unattainable because this process builds over time and we have to take action now), leads them to keep coming up with new ideas, keep listening to new gurus, and still not create the success they desire.

Even if we don’t make an instant financial success, if we create our products, promote them, put them out there and keep taking additional actions toward our goals, over time we will succeed.

    Warmly,

    Dr. Erica

    • You unfortunately are so spot on Dr.Erica!LOL!

We’ve both seen this entire, self destructive same self sabotaging thinking
process play out over & over!

Although, please forgive me for sounding naive here, but I really had no idea,
that even among professionals, with literally tons of formal education and real world
experiences, the exact same negative mental forces and mindsets are so prevalent!

What a shame!Because the world is being systematically short changed!Your incredibly powerful
comments are several additional blog post, “how to” problem solving videos and podcasts as well!LOL!

      So thanks for that!LOL!

But what you’re sharing is so spot on! Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by and share some
of your incredibly powerful, front line insights! They’re always welcome and greatly appreciated!

  3. What inspiring stories Mark! I’ve always been a big believer in focusing on the question “how can I do this” instead of all the obstacles and reasons why something can’t possibly work. There is almost always a way to accomplish a goal if you’re willing to ignore the box and do whatever it takes.
