Entrepreneurs: How They Consistently Put Their Grand Openings On Steroids!

  (And How You Can Too!)

So when is the last time, you actually attended a major, (read that as) corporate America, (fortune 500) type of companies grand opening event?

Rest assured, these corporate type of entrepreneurs, (in an over the top) sort of way, definitely know “how to” pull out all of the major stops!Would you not agree?

I mean, sometimes they have multiple clowns performing for kids,(say) ages, ten and under. And they’ve got jugglers local or nationally acclaimed macgians and or illusionist performing.

And of course, a bevy of attractive young female sale associates, passing out both coupons and free mini fragrance samples for the ladies, and automotive discount coupons the guys etc!

And they have market tested mini booths set up (all over the place), for both current Mom with their kids and expectant Moms to be!

Why sometimes they even have live band performances, by some of the top local talent, going on right in the parking lot etc! 😀

For sure, they definitely know “how to” cover all of the major bases!Right?

And they will usually get plenty of TV and or constant radio coverage, from several of the major, local news media outlets etc.

However, upon a much closer examination, (believe it or not), there is still, a ton of untapped, long term marketing possibilities, that have yet to, (not only) be properly addressed, (but) also have yet to be fully maximized a well!

Let’s take a look at, three potential instances, (just to see) what doing so, might eventually reveal!

 So How Do Some Extremely Savvy Entrepreneurs Consistently Put Their Grand Opening Profits On Steroids?

(And More Importantly How Can You Do It Too?)

The main reason I bring this particular subject up, is because a few years back, right in my local area, one of the major, fortune 500 type of, big box retailers, had one of those over the top, grand opening events!

And there were probably more balloons released at that one event, then ten of the last circuses that passed through town!Anyway, on the local news, just prior to the actual over the top “grand opening” taking place.

There were some (eager beaver) college students, literally camped out in the parking lot, in anticipation of the event, and during the night, they would get out of their van and play Frisbee.(We’ll cover the ongoing, long term marketing strategy, to go after them later on in another post.

So right here, is the first major untapped marketing opportunity/possibility!All in all, let’s have a much closer look at, (at least) three major untapped, long marketing opportunity/possibilities!Just to “see” where they might ultimately lead!

Here in part one, initially,we’re only going to focus on one particular niche audience, and the sub niche, within this particular segment.

Extremely Successful Entrepreneurs Understand Why They Should Segment Their Target Audiences!

So the Moms, with little ones, (say) twelve and under and the obvious expectant Moms to be, that also attend the grand opening.

The following three “battlefield tested” strategies are designed to create, some long term repeat customers, initially for pennies on the dollar.Plus a ton of ongoing social media buzz as well. 😀

Because the very first time they enter the store, they will be proactively marketed to! Here’s how!

Some Of The Very Best Lead Magnets Are Super Satisfied Customers!(Don’t You Agree?)

1.) Major untapped marketing possibility # one: The obvious Moms that enter the store, (initially) on grand opening  day/weekend, with at least some of their little ones accompanying them, ( ideal ages) ten and under, they will automatically be given a two sided index card, by several of the attractive young female associates, that are systematically making their rounds throughout the entire store. 😀 

These Moms will be highly encouraged to head over to the customer service desk, to (initially) pay, just $7 dollars ( or X), to have their temporary “Super Mom” club card laminated!

And with that, for the next six (or X) number of months, they automatically save 25% off their total bill, at the food court!

And any time they bring at least one adult, 18 & over, with them to the food court, (whose not already) a current “Super Mom” club member,they automatically save 50% off the total cost of their food court meal!

2.) Major untapped marketing possibility # two: And because their “Super Mom” club members, as long as they join the retailers opt in email/ mobile marketing database, they will also automatically receive special email/text message “alerts”, on special discount closeout prices on “back to school” kids clothes and or school supplies etc.

Special “alerts” on the most popular DVD’s for kids, for birthdays and other special events.

Plus, special extremely time sensitive “alerts”, on all types of extremely popular house hold items etc.

And, every time these Moms receive any type of email/text message “alert”, at the end of a 24 hour cycle, one of these incredibly loyal lady shoppers, will be notified, that they saved 90% off their purchase!

In other words, one of them will be notified, their recent purchase(s), were at the retailers actual cost!

And they’ll be given a discount coupon, for the credit balance, and they’ll have 72 hours to claim it at the customer service desk, or they automatically forfeit it to another local “Super Mom” club member! 😀

Whose Says Your Non Traditional Entrepreneurial Ideas Can’t Dramatically Improve Your Bottom Line!

3.) Major untapped marketing possibility # three: And on their birthdays and or wedding anniversaries they automatically get a $20 dollar credit at the food court, plus, they can make any purchase, (no minimum) purchase required, at the retailers actual cost!

And here’s the mini upsell, (on the part) of the extremely savvy retailer. Since the initial, two sided laminated index card, for the “Super Mom” club, only costs seven dollars and initially only lasts for six (or X) number of months.

As the six month deadline approaches, for just $3 (or X) dollars more, (or $10 dollars total) the “Super Moms” can automatically upgrade to a full year!

And then renew it, (every year) thereafter, for just seven (or X) dollars per year!

    I don’t go to too many grand openings but this reminded me of one I went to some years ago. It was just another store opening but the line to get in was around the shopping center.

    I mean my main reason for attending was to check out the store and get some freebies, but as you said the marketing was huge. I don’t think there was a single person around that didn’t know what was going on.

    And I must say, I love any retailer that offers goodies and specials around my birthday. Huge plus for me! 🙂

  2. Inspiring as always Mark. I can’t remember the last time I attended an opening of anything, but that’s only because I hate crowds. Even though I live on a small Island GRAND openings do happen here. My favorite in recent history was the opening of Target. They didn’t really have to do anything because there was already a hungry audience, but what they did do was brilliant. The hosted a pre-opening private cocktail reception for current Target card holders but of course, they hyped it well in advance and it quickly became the MUST ATTEND event of the year!. People were scrambling to get Target credit cards just so they’d get an invite to that party. It was crazy, but the buzz continued for weeks afterward and the formal opening created gridlock in central Maui. Now it’s like the Island revolves around Target. 🙂
