Being An Entrepreneur:Means Sometimes You Gotta Develop Skills You May Not Want To!

So you’re definitely working extremely hard, right?

And whenever possible, you’re leveraging the various forms of marketing leverage available to you, correct? (Good, glad to hear that’s the case!)

Which means, you’ll be the first to acknowledge, being an entrepreneur, is a 24/7 undertaking, right?

So here’s a quick question.

Have you also noticed, being an entrepreneur, definitely means, sometimes you gotta develop certain brand new marketable skills (of some kind), whether you really want to or not?

And by doing so, you not only move your business and or service forward, but often times, you can also save a ton of money in the process!

And developing these brand new marketable skills, helps build your confidence immensely as well!(Don’t you agree?)

So Who Else Has Noticed Being An Entrepreneur Definitely Means Developing Skills You May Not Necessarily Want To!

So by now, you (and I) know all too well, being an entrepreneur involves wearing many hats, especially in the beginning, right?

And like it or not, there is a constant need, to develop various types of marketable skills of some kind, whether you (really) want to or not, correct?

Case in point, are you familiar with the name Christina Hills, of the websitecreationworkshop.com fame.

Christina teaches entrepreneurs, small business owners, service providers, consultants, coaches, yoga instructors, CFPs and everything else in between, “how to” create their very own, state of the art WordPress websites and or blogs.

This Is How And Why You’ve Gotta Constantly Develop And Increase Your Bankable Skills Of All Kinds!

Just in case, you’re the type, that wants one of those really cool, state of the art websites and or blogs.

But definitely doesn’t necessarily want to have to pay an expert web designer, (literally) thousands of dollars to build you one for you!

So if taking the time to learn the in’s and outs of WordPress seems, like something you may (at some point) be interested in doing.

(Word of caution though:) Buckle up, because the learning curve, isn’t exactly a piece of a cake! )

Becoming An Entrepreneur Is A 24/7 Project (And Then Some!)

On the other hand! If you’re time is extremely limited, and you much prefer.

You can have WordPress website building expert Jupiter Jim Landers, build you, your business and or service, a fabulous state of the art WordPress website and or blog.

(Complete with all the latest bells & whistles), and be online in less than a week! Or two, just depending on how busy he is, in any given, particular week.

Understand going in, both excellent options, will require, either a time or money investment on your part. Or both!

Developing Your Bankable Skills Definitely Gives You Some Extremely Viable Options!

But faced with the alternative of one of those big budget web designers, who routinely charge entrepreneurs, (like you and I), literally thousands of dollars, both options are definitely worth seriously considering!

Because being an entrepreneur definitely means, you gotta constantly keep developing various marketable skills, or your business development, (no matter which particular stage) it happens to be in,will come to a grinding halt!

Successful Entrepreneurs Are Constantly In Study And Implementation Mode!

For example, another one of the expert WordPress website builders I know, Dotty Scott of premiumwebsites.net fame.

I recently reached out to Dotty, (as I often do!) in order to clarify certain details, regarding website builders, and some of their common marketing practices etc.

And I asked if she (typically) charged her clients, (either) so much per blog post she published to their sites.

Or if she just preferred to charge a set monthly fee, and the site owner(s) just furnished the blog posts in a word document.

And she just edited it, and then posted it for them, and performed any ongoing maintenance, for a set monthly fee.

The Less You Know How To Professionally Do On Your Own The More Your Are Sort Of A Prisoner Of Others!

And she responded, by sharing, she basically has two primary methods shes uses, to accomplish that particular task.

1.) Method # one: If it warrants it, she simply charges her clients a (one time fee), and teaches them “how to” add their own blog posts, this way they can add the blog posts themselves.

Or embed videos, or embed podcasts to their blogs and or web pages, any time they get ready!

And if and when the need ever arises, for anything more elaborate,(and it most certainly will), they can hire her by the hour, to perform the other needed tasks.

Successful Entrepreneurs Are Great At Facing And Overcoming seemingly Endless Challenges!

2.) Method # two: Or she simply charges them for performing each individual task, like charging her hourly fee, prorated, for the time it actually takes, to publish a clients blog posts.

And she warned me, to be aware of the web designers, who charge a flat monthly fee, even though sometimes, in any given month, they may not actually perform any of the required duties!

Merely because, for whatever reasons, the web site owner, hasn’t published any new fresh content (of any kind), for the last 3 or 4 weeks!

You Definitely Shouldn’t Try And Master Every Single Aspect Of Successfully Running Your Own Business And Or Service! But…..

Case in point, to date, I have personally written and published 1,551 blog posts. And if I didn’t bother to learn this (seemingly) simple skill, and I had to (constantly) pay a web designer of any kind to constantly do it for me.

Even if they only charged me (say) as little as $10 per post, to do so. I still would have paid a staggering $15,510 dollars to date and counting! ($1,551 x $10 dollars per post = $15,510 dollars!)

You Can And Definitely Should Start Leveraging Your Current And Future Opportunities!

(Important note: And here’s the real kicker! A savvy web designer, looking to leverage their own time, (while still maximizing their full profit potential!)

Could just as easily, turn around and outsource my task, to a reputable and reliable Virtual Assistant (VA), in another part of the world.

And pay them $2.50 per post they edit & publish etc; and still pocket $7.50 per blog post they publish to my site for me or you!

Who Says Your Initial Profit Margins Have To Be Outrageously Large!

Meaning, they would still net, $11,632.50 dollars, for doing practically nothing! But thinking and acting, like an extremely savvy entrepreneur does.

($15,510 x .75% = $11,623.50) And of course if they charged $20 dollars per post, and pocketed $15 dollars per post, and paid the other $5 dollars to their VA (Virtual Assistant.)

They would still make out like a bandit! Don’t you agree?

In my particular case, they would have grossed an additional $23,265 dollars! (1,551 x $15 dollars per post = $23,265 dollars!)

There Are Most Definitely Some Hidden Advantages To Being An Entrepreneur! (Don’t You Agree?)

  1. You really got me thinking on this one Mark. First of all, to your point, there is no question that we have to wear many different hats. I still vividly recall a problem I had with my previous blog that was caused by an increase in traffic. Now this was something I’d been working hard to achieve, but somewhere along the way nobody had ever explained to me that a significant increase in traffic could cause problems with your server, especially if you have a shared hosting plan. What a shocker that was, and I had no choice but to invest the time to learn stuff I didn’t want to in order to work through the problem.

That said, it is my humble opinion that we also have to keep in mind that time is money and as you know one of bit of sage advice most highly successful people regularly offer is hire good people so you can spend your time on the things you’re good at. While it’s true we may have no choice but to wear multiple hats in the beginning, in the long run, it’s going to be hard to grow without strategically outsourcing at least some of the work. Thanks for the inspiration and great advice!
