Entrepreneur Checkout The Three Things I Learned About Viral Marketing!

Three Things I Learned About Profitable Viral Marketing Strategies From Jonah Berger!

In his excellent book, Jonah lays out in easy to follow six incredibly powerful viral marketing principles, that any and every serious small business owner and or service provider should adhere to. Here’s a small sample of three of them.

1.) Viral marketing strategy # one: This first proven viral marketing strategy Jonah refers to as ‘The Rule of 100.” Here’s basically “how” it works, whenever you have a product (or service), that priced below $100 dollars, and you’re discounting the price. In most cases, it’s better to emphasize the percentage off as opposed to the actual dollar amount, because, for some odd reason, the percentage seems to resonate with the consumers more!

For ex: suppose you have a $20 dollar shirt that you’re going to discount it by $5 dollars. For some reason when you offer it for 25% off, that seems to resonate more than merely  stating, that you’re discounting the price by $5 dollars, even though (mathematically), they’re exactly the same! Go figure!

And by the same toke; suppose you’re marketing an offline live three day workshop for $2,000 dollars, and you’re going to discount it by the same 25%. Now is where you’re better informing your consumer, that they can save (for an extremely limited time) of course, $500 dollars!

Even though they’re exactly the same monetarily, a $500 dollars savings seems much larger, as opposed to a measly 25% off!

2.) Viral marketing strategy # two: This next viral marketing strategy Jonah refers to as “social currency” and Jonah points out, that whenever you/we can make our customers or clients feel “special” or somehow part of something exclusive, that very few others they know and socialize with are a part of. Guess what cadets? They’ll gladly spread the word about our business, product or service!

Case in point: “who” among us doesn’t like or appreciate being acknowledged as a “VIP” customer/client and given preferential treatment of some kind!

3.) Viral marketing strategy # three: And finally… This third viral marketing strategy Jonah refers to as “Triggers” top of mind,tip of tongue!” And basically what he’s inferring here is this: people just naturally associate certain things together. For ex: ‘peanut butter and ‘what” cadets? Right!

So this one is little trickier to pull off, but basically “what” thing or things can we do to cause “trigger” a top mind, tip of tongue response from our target market!
