Hopefully you at least partially realize and appreciate that you don’t have to wait until you put together some type of formalized approach to effectively generating referrals, correct? Sure if you’re a local business or service provider.
You can and definitely should periodically put together some type of organized local events. Even if it’s nothing more than occasionally setting up makeshift booths or tables in each others showrooms.
And strategically promoting to each others customers, employees and vendors. Just be darn sure you’re not treating or investing in these potentially profitable events as if there of the one and done variety.
Meaning, find some creative ways to consistently build your opt in email list. Don’t just try and drive (send) these individuals to one of your social media pages.
Because doing so could potentially turn out to big a huge long term marketing mistake. As you and or your major competitors are about to “discover.”
Who Else Wants To Discover How To Get Referrals For Your Business For Literally Pennies On The Dollar?
First of all before diving in head first. Entrepreneur take another extremely close look at the featured image for this particular post. On the surface it seems pretty “Mary Plain Jane” on the surface does it not?
Just a group of local friends (and possibly) siblings or in-laws getting together to enjoy a night of pizza and wine etc. Which is an all too common occurrence, is it not? Only “what” if in reality the guy fully visible in the picture currently works full time in your non franchised, mom & pop retail appliance store.
Entrepreneur Truth Told You Have More Previously Untapped Marketing leverage Opportunities Than You Fully Realize Or Appreciate!
And even though you can’t see them. There are two other guys present. Only they went to the corner store to get even more beer because it’s Monday Night football season. And they’re expecting at least three more couples.
For a total of six more bodies. And the ladies pictured are either the spouses or live in significant others or girlfriends of the guys gone to get more beer. Here’s the point.
Because this guy currently works full time for you. And you’re extremely dedicated to uncovering from simple, previously untapped marketing opportunities. Which can and more than likely will lead to generating referrals for literally pennies on the dollar.
You’re at least inexpensively testing the following non traditional marketing strategies and tactics.
Effectively Creating Or Generating Potentially Profitable Referrals Doesn’t Always Have To Be Extremely Formalized! (Not In The Beginning Anyway!)
Case in point. You allow this particular employee whose clearly one of your top sales rep. You let him or her purchase a state of the art 75 inch flat screen TV or whatever at your actual cost of X.
(In reality if things work out for him. Provided he or she is able to generate X amount of paying customers. You or your major competitor will gladly refund their hard cost deposit of X. (Say what?)
This way you know he or she definitely has plenty of reasons to constantly be bragging both on and offline, correct? But you add a nice little marketing twist.
For the guy. Since he and you know a ton of his best buddies are huge NFL fans. And the regular season is 16 games. And even more if their favorite team makes it to the playoffs. And hopefully they ultimately make it to and win the Super Bowl.
But whether their favorite team goes all the way or not. They have 16 regular season games to try. Which is “why” you strategically volunteer to pay for four cheese pizzas and wings and three bottles of soda of their choice.
Just Leverage The Natural Organic Flow Of Most Social Gatherings!
(Now you know “why” the other guys (not pictured in the image) went to the corner store to get some beer, right?) Anyway. As big of an appetite your employee and his spouse, live in significant other or girlfriend may have. They’ll definitely need help eating this food each week for the next 8 weeks, correct?
Because the NFL regular season is split into 8 home and 8 away games. And unless your employee has one of the premium NFL packages. The home games will typically be blacked out. But the 8 away games will usually be on one of the major networks or on cable.
So you provide the pizza, X number of buffalo wings and soda. And the outrageously cool 65-75 inch state of the art TV.
And each week as your employee entertains some of the locals. He also passes out some of you best, extremely time sensitive, market tested gift certificates.
And the recipients get a chance to join you or your major competitors opt in email list. So they can be entered into your monthly or quarterly free drawing. For their chance to win a state of the art $5,000 or X thousand dollar deluxe home entertainment system.
Of course your actual hard cost is typically half or less.
