Three Ways Your All Important First Date Can Dramatically Improve Your Marketing Plan!

So entrepreneur are you or is anybody you know, currently using any type of reputable online dating service? Because according to one of the major online dating services (I believe) it’s Match.com, but don’t quote me.

They readily boast statistics in their TV ads, about how at least 20% of all relationships of some kind, now currently originate online. Basically that’s one out of every five budding relationships. Which begs asking the question, how if at all, does that all important first date stat, help dramatically improve your current or future marketing plans?

Because if you’re planning on using any on or offline reputable dating service, to possibly find that ideal person to, if nothing else, occasionally hangout with and eventually get to know them better.

And you also happen to run a business of any kind. Congratulations! Because this post just might help you dramatically improve your current or future marketing plans, in at least three incredibly simple and hopefully, eventually profitable ways.

So What Three Things Can Going On An All Important First Date Teach You That Will Dramatically Improve Your Current Or Future Marketing Plans?

First and foremost, since most of you have already heard this a gazillion times; it would be a total disaster to try and propose marriage on your very first date, correct? Agreed.

That said, here’s the first way and or business principle you can apply to your business, as a direct result on going on that all important first date.

1.) Lesson # one: Entrepreneur, if you’re going to constantly invest your extremely limited, hard earned dollars on conventional paid advertising mediums of any kind.

Including, but not limited to, outrageously expensive local newspapers, classified and or display ads, local TV, radio and or local magazine publications etc. Please keep in mine, that initially a staggering 97% or more of the general public  in your immediate area, probably initially has little or no clue who your company, business product or service is!

And that you even exist! And of the remaining  3% that do, probably 75% of them or more, currently has no real or current  interest or need for what you offering right now! Meaning, your initial exposure to them (paid advertisement) , shouldn’t be to try sell to a complete stranger!

Remember, this is merely your very first (let’s get to know each other a little bit first!) initial blind date. So use some strategic free ethical bribe type of lead generating approach initially!

Offer to solve or at least adequately address some nagging issue your industry has! By way of offering some free marketed tested opt in problem solving freebie first! Get them on your on or offline list first, and then start your strategic (let’s get to know each other better) follow up dating process!

Next, if you or anybody you know, has ever used any type of reputable dating service before. You know that (usually), but not always, you can sort of tell within three dates or less, whether the two of you really need to go any further!  Right? (We both have personal experience with this particular  situation and or personally someone that has relayed a dating story of this nature, correct?)

Nobodies Really Looking To Get Married After Only A First Date Are They?

(And if they are, is this truly somebody you ought to be spending any more quality time with?)

2.) Lesson # two: The point being, once it becomes obvious that a subscriber and or new or current customer and or client, is going to be a real drag on your bottom line! And consume large amounts of time and other extremely valuable resources etc.

You gotta cut um loose asap! Just like you would turn down any future dating opportunities, with someone you’re clearly not compatible enough with!

3.) Lesson # three: And last but certainly not least; obviously when you prepare to go on any potential date,  (first or otherwise!) you’re going to (at least) initially, put your best foot forward correct?

That said; once a paying customer and or client, has successfully demonstrated they are a keeper! Because they’re proactive on social media and they’re consistently spreading the the word to friends, family and the like etc.

They’re consistently referring others etc. You gotta roll the “red carpet” of take no prisoners style customer service, correct? Just like you would, once you realize that initial first date warrants future dating!

You kinda start customizing things a little bit more, do you not? Exactly! That my friend, are the three ways that an all important first date can and will help you dramatically improve your current and future marketing plans. Your thoughts.

Please list at least two simple spin off concepts (in the comments section below) that you can apply to your business, product or service in the next 30 days or less!

  1. Very interesting comparison…and true! I will never look at my email subscribers or visitors the same way again. In fact, as far as I’m concerned, we are on a first date!

    • Awesome Kari!

Thank you for your extremely kind words! Turns out that all important first can do more
than merely lead to the perfect long term romance!

Don’t you agree? Thanks for stopping by and for sharing your extremely kind words!

      Both are much appreciated!

  2. Pretty good analogy, Mark! You have the right balance between finding someone who is willing and eager to learn and get ahead — but not someone who will drain your energy without giving anything back.

If only it were true!LOL! The best we can hope for is, if our assessments happen to turn out to be wrong! Then
cut our collective losses asap and move on!LOl!

Thanks as always Willena, for your continuous support and stopping by and sharing your insights and thoughts!
      It’s all greatly appreciated!

  3. I love how creative you get with your analogies Mark. While my advertising these days is almost exclusively limited to marketing my books, for many years I managed sales and marketing for a regional tourist attraction.

I bring this up because as a new business their approach was completely counter to your smart business advice, and they nearly paid a very dear price for their arrogance.

You see the (foreign) owners were of the opinion they didn’t need to worry about making a good first impression – the quality of the facility would speak for itself. As a result they managed to offend many influential business and community leaders (Think first date from hell!) so the tour and activity companies refused to do business with them and the locals stayed away in droves.

By the time I came on board at the 6 month mark it was literally do or die – either make it work or they’d have to close the facility. Not too much pressure. 🙂 Anyway, we “did” to the point of becoming the most profitable attraction in the company’s portfolio but it took a lot of fence mending and calling in favors on my part.

So, can a new business recover if they have a few lousy first dates, maybe, but why risk it and go through all that stress!

    • Wow Marquita!

That is a totally awesome story! And I love your references as in (the first date from hell!LOL!) And I too
have had my encounters with severely arrogant business owners!

That would rather close the door and blow the business up! Rather than adjust their approaches! Imaging purposely turning off potential
      customers or repeat customers!

It’s hard to believe that an serious business owner would alienate respected community business leaders on purpose! But I really does happen more than it should.

In any event, it sounds like whatever strategies you employed, must have worked, because the company didn’t close their doors! Thanks for sharing
such a powerful real world story!

And for your continuous support and for your extremely kind word! I definitely appreciate both!

  4. What a great analogy between business and dating. The problem with business relationships, you can’t date them all. Need to connect to those that will continue to make the relationship run smoothly so it is a win win situation for both sides. As with dating giving the other person attention is important. This also needs to be done with your customers. Don’t treat them like a number, as everyone wants to feel special. Enjoyed your post and will be back.
