Three Proven Email Marketing Techniques Far Too Many Newbie Marketers Ignore!

So is your inbox literally flooded every day from different companies that you  joined their list in order to receive, some type of highly informative  periodic  updates? Only instead, it’s  non stop pitch after pitch, correct?Yea, me too! 😎

With very little emphasis placed on the value end of the marketing excellence  cycle even being considered.

But here’s the thing, in spite of some of what you constantly see being done online,  that’s totally incorrect BTW!

Rest assured, when it comes effective  email marketing techniques, there are at  least three things (you and I) definitely  should be doing on the regular!

Because if and when you do, you’re going to start to notice an almost immediate  positive increase in your subscribers responses! And that’s always a good  thing, right?Absolutely!

And the best part is, none of the following three proven email marketing strategies is difficult to do and or implement! But you will definitely need, a reliable, state of the art paid email service provider of some kind, in order to implement these particular proven strategies.

Introducing Three Incredibly Simple Email Marketing Techniques Far Too Many Aspiring Online Newbie Marketers Ignore!

(And How And Why It’s Costing Them Future Profits By Doing So!)

First though, before we dive head long into these three proven email marketing strategies, (that all serious online marketers such as yourself should definitely be using as often as possible!)

Ladies & gentlemen (is it me?) or have you also noticed some of the absolute wackiness that is quickly becoming par for the course, with regards to acceptable online marketing tactics and or strategies.

Case in point, one of the really big name seven or eight figure a year online marketers, whose various lists, I’ve been on for quite a while now.

They recently sent this email out, with a link that had a sales video in it. (No big surprise there.) And the sales video (get this!) was declaring “how”  traditional straight forward email marketing was in fact dead! 😎 Huh?

Did I miss something? Isn’t that kinda of like the balded headed sales rep going door to door, peddling a “hair grow” product of some kind! 😎

I mean if traditional email marketing is supposedly dead, “why” pray tell, did they send me the message via traditional email? 😎 I don’t know, maybe it’s me! Anyway….

Let’s suppose that you and your family run your typical offline (bricks and mortar) bicycle repair shop. (Or it could be the family bakery and or restaurant business etc.)

And you currently have two strategically placed locations, one on the lower east side of town and one on the upper west side of town.(With some serious discussions and considerations for possibly opening yet a third even bigger location, located in a popular mall in a neighboring town!)

Anyway your state of the art and (mobile responsive) WordPress blog has a really cool opt in form on practically every page that gets visited most, (like your all important “About” page) and it features your latest market tested free list building giveaway offer!(Way to go!)

And to date, you’ve got a totally respectable 1,137 loyal subscribers and growing practically every week BTW! And your current open rates consistently average somewhere in the 28-35% neighborhood!(Which is also very respectable!)

And nobody in your family run concern, is “what” you could legitimately call an ace copywriter! But even with all those positives going for you, you’ve come to realize that in spite of your best efforts, you’ve still been missing the mark big time, in a few key areas of effective email marketing execution!

Introducing Three Proven Email Marketing Ideas You Definitely Need To Stop Ignoring!

In order to really explain this (all too common) email marketing mistake, that both you and far too many other aspiring newbie marketers constantly make.

For a second, (I want you to) think about one of your major super markets in your area. And think about the different departments the store has, like a produce section, or meat department or bakery or frozen section and customer service and or receiving department etc.

Now then, imagine one lowly (and extremely overworked) employee, trying in vain, to simultaneously manage all of those departments effectively! No way, right?Bingo entrepreneur!Huh?

You’re attempting to do the exact same thing, when you don’t strategically segment your opt in email list and try a one email message fits all of your subscribers approach! This practice is not so good, because each subscriber is a unique individual, are they not?Yep!

Which leads us into these three “battlefield tested” email marketing techniques.

1.) Battlefield tested email marketing strategy #one: Suppose on your WordPress blog opt in form for your bicycle shop, you ask (specifically) which type of bicycles your subscribers are most interested in.

And you provide three separate options, via your convenient drop down menu.So you offer high end racer type bikes that typically retails for $997 and up! And regular (brand name) ten speed bikes and of course the ever popular “Mountain bikes.”

Just Be Sure That Some Of Your Best Email Marketing Strategies Include Some Good Old Common Sense And You’ll Be Fine!

2.) Battlefield tested email marketing strategy # two: So “if” 347 of your total 1,137 subscribers have clearly indicated they are primarily interested in various styles of “Mountain bikes” ( or X), why bother lumping then in with all your other subscribers, that indicated they were primarily interested in high end racer type of bikes!Or whatever.

Is it any wonder why they (A.) aren’t consistently opening your emails and or (B.) once they do, and realize your promoting high end racer type of bikes  (and or product or service X), that they have absolutely little or no interest in, “why” they don’t bother clicking any links!  😉

Hello!Earth to marketer!

See “how” this one email message fits all approach, works against you?And “how” and why you definitely need to start segmenting your subscribers by “what” they’ve indicated they’re most interested in!

Now just in case your particular paid autoresponder service doesn’t allow the necessary segment features you need, you can always switch to a respected industry provider that does! 😉

And keep in mind, some of the various (incredibly popular) free email service providers do not provide that type of necessary functionality to begin with!(If they did, who’d bother paying for their service.)

3.) Battlefield tested email marketing strategy # three: Here’s the other way strategically segmenting your list in various ways can be of major benefit to you long term. Let’s say you’ve got several (solid) local offline (either) joint venture and or cross promotional partners.

And they’re spread out all over town.Meaning; some are currently located on the upper east side, while others are currently located on the lower north side etc.

And since some of your most effective cross promotional partners, currently have your WordPress blogs (lead capture page) address on the back side of their flyers, that their cashiers place in their customers bags as they exit the store upon paying for their purchases.

Some of them aren’t aware you’ve currently got two conveniently placed locations. So “why” not segment your list by their location, this way whenever your upper west side located store is having one of it’s “Everything Must Go Final Liquidation Sales” events.

Why not only email those that indicated on your opt in form, that particular store was located nearest to them!If you do, chances are pretty darn good you’ll dramatically increase the odds of them (and a friend) stopping by before your sales event ends!Don’t you agree?

Well, in a nutshell entrepreneur, those are three of the most often overlooked email marketing techniques that far too many aspiring newbie marketers either neglect and or totally ignore altogether!

And it’s potentially costing them (and or you) a lot of money!Don’t you agree? Now as is customary during this part of our show.

  1. Hi Mark

A simple but so powerful strategy that most of us miss out! Thanks for this amazing post that made this strategy of segmentation so simple to understand. I agree 100% with you that almost every new online marketer misses out on this strategy. I could only imagine how much success on can achieve by following segmenting in email marketing.

Thanks for this wonderful post! Have a great week ahead!

  2. It isn’t only newbie marketers who are guilty of sending promotional emails. I’ve seen this among a number of my writing mentors. Sign up for a course, which is fabulous, and then after it’s over, they send regular sales emails, mostly for others’ products that they just “know” I’ll be interested in buying. I don’t like opting out of their email lists, because sometimes they have real value in their emails — but sometimes there is no choice. Thanks for the great post, Mark. It gives me ideas for when I have an email list.

  3. Segmenting your list is a must! I like how you suggest doing that at the front-end of the process. Much “cleaner” way of doing it 🙂

  5. Inspiring as always Mark! Up to now I haven’t segmented my list because frankly it seemed like a nightmare to go back and attempt to do it, but I recently realized – thanks to some of your awesome ideas and motivation – I really didn’t need to reinvent the wheel. I’m getting my readers to ask to be on that second list I’m creating for my new training modules. And the way I’m doing that is with an email project I’ve recently started – which admittedly may not be for everybody – but the results so far have been very impressive.

I’m personally emailing each of my “devoted” subscribers who consistently open my emails to 1) thank them for being a member of the community and 2) ask what they like best about ERL (testimonial shopping!) and if there is any problem or concern they’d like to see me write about – maybe even create a course around, and finally 3) letting them know about the “insider” group I’m forming for the new training center. This is a summer project so I’m taking my time and contacting just a few members each day. Now that I have my system set up it takes little more than 5 min in the morning and in addition to the great feedback, I’m building that new ‘VIP” list and taking the relationship with my subscribers to the next level. 🙂

    • That is so how it’s done M!LOL!

Bravo!I love your attention to subscriber/customer details!

That type of continuous laser focused customer service is like an irresistible magnet!LOL!

And it truly drives positive on and offline word of mouth and mouse publicity!

Personalizing and customizing is definitely where it’s at and the name of the game.

I have no doubt, your project will ultimately be a success!

As always, thanks so much for sharing (both) your real world insights
      and know how!

It’s always welcome and so greatly appreciated!
