Have you heard or read the startling statistic that says, some extremely successful and therefore ( extremely savvy), and if we’re going to be completely honest and transparent here, very experienced online marketers, can and have regularly experienced opt in email marketing ((Return On Investment) rates (ROI”s) of a staggering 43%!
Entrepreneur (ladies & gentlemen) and all aspiring newbie online marketers alike! In case you didn’t know (and or) you’re not totally comprehending that incredibly staggering figure.
To put it in simple layman’s terms, they’re totally crushing it! And then some! Personally, yours truly as yet to come nowhere close to that type of ROI, with regards to strategic follow up email marketing!
Although truth told, you (and I) don’t have to consistently come anywhere near that type of return, in order to be extremely successful online! (Granted it would certainly be nice.)But here in lies the (start) of the continuous online (green as grass) newbie marketers slow major methodical -and all too predictable- downfall!
You see, without being totally clued in on all the -rarely revealed- nitty gritty details of “how” some guru or guruette ( and or) online business was (or is) actually able to (ethically) bribe their opt in email list subscribers into those types of returns.
The totally unsuspecting (and usually barely) Internet marketing literate online newbie marketer, somehow gets this totally misguided notion, that simply by copy and pasting someone else email marketing approaches and or buying a few “solo ads” here and there!
And offering some really stale (the solo ad subscriber list has already seen it a gazillion times previously), way before you ever hit the scene offer, they (bye golly) are going to experience similar bankable results! (Yea, if only it were that straight forward and easy!)
Word to the wise. Get a grip asap! My friend, it ain’t gonna happen.For tons of reasons, far too numerous to mention here. However, suffice it to say, there are at least three major no, no’s, that far too many aspiring online newbie marketers consistently make! And they (going forward) are to be avoided like the plague!
So What Are These Three All Too Common Email Marketing Mistakes That Far Too Many Online Newbie Marketers Make?
First of all (before) we officially begin: ladies & gentlemen, fellow profit seeking entrepreneurs and all aspiring online newbie marketers alike. Can we at least semi agree upfront, that you just shouldn’t do certain things (as it relates to business!) No matter “how” you primarily market/advertise your business, product and or service, on or offline! Good!
Now then, this first major email marketing no,no, you often see -totally inexperienced- aspiring online newbie marketers consistently making, simply because (A) they either haven’t been taught any better! Or (B) they’re simply not -yet- truly coach-able!
And they’ll either change and get with the program, or sadly, they’ll quickly go the way of the wilder beast! Entrepreneur; one last “final” word of caution here. ( Please raise your right hand! Now then, for the record,as part of the aspiring to be successful entrepreneurs credo and secret oath. And while you’re still under oath.
Do you or do you not “know” what the term “spam” means? Are you totally sure? (I remind you that you’re still under oath! ) That said, take a look at major email marketing mistake # one.
Just Because Email Marketing Is Inexpensive Doesn’t Mean It Has To Be Cheap In Nature!
1.) Major online newbie email marketing no no # one: Dear sweet (totally green as grass) aspiring online newbie marketer! Although you obviously have the noblest of intentions! Going forward, please stop buying (beat to death) way too generic – to be worth anything of value to you- email marketing subscribers from some top gun list broker and or list brokering company and loading them into your paid autoresponder service providers database!
Simply because they don’t make you have the email potential lead confirm that they want to be own your particular list! (Not all of the major email service providers will allow this practice, but some of them -as of this writing- still do.)
My friend, “a rose by any other name..” yada,yada…etc! This self defeating practice is “spam” whether you wanna bury your head in the sands of denial or not! And sooner or later you’re gonna get nailed for it with tons of spam complaints by the unsuspecting recipients!
And if ( or when)that actually happens, you don’t wanna experience that nightmare and eventual grief!
2.) Major online newbie email marketing no no # two: Next, you’ve finally semi wised up and now you’re implementing (good old) tried and true, proven opt in email marketing techniques and or tactics etc. Very good!
And you’ve been building your opt in list the right way for a while now.
But low and behold, it’s been a staggering six months or more since your last email message (of any kind) to them.Again, word to the wise. At this point, it’s best you ease them back into the groove, by making your first initial contact with them, a sort of “why” you originally joined my list, reminder follow up email message of some kind.
Don’t merely send them some sort of solicitation email! Because chances are, they have forgotten that they did originally opt in to your list!
And your total lack of communication and marketing neglect has removed you from their top of mind list! Instead, if you want you can include their proof of original opt in details, but then slowly ease them back into the whole “why” they opted in angle!
Maybe alert them to some free webinar and or recorded tele seminar that adequately addresses their issues and then supply the link.
Here’s a quick question for you; if you needed a lawyer or plumber and or any other professional that you can think of. And you did (either) some on or offline research and you found a number for let’s say “Ace Plumbing Inc.” And you called the number and someone answered and it was obvious that old “Ace” or whoever actually owns the business, was sharing a room somewhere and obviously using someone else cell phone in order to try and conduct business.
Do I really need to go any further with this all too common hypothetical example! Good; now read major email marketing no, no # three and (going forward) start adhering to this prudent advice asap!
The Proper Use Of Your Opt In Email Subscriber List Can Either Help Build Your Business Up And Or Quickly Tear It Down!
(Which Option Do You Prefer?)
3.) Major online newbie email marketing no, no # three: Aspiring online newbie marketer/entrepreneur. Please (asap) loose the free email account address as your primary business email address! No more of this Mark@gmail or yahoo and or hot mail.com nonsense!
It wreaks of amateurism! Mind you, it’s perfectly okay to forward your domain based email business address to some free web based email service provider. But don’t use (or stop!) using the free web based email accounts as your primary email business address!
The sooner you eliminate these three major email marketing no, no’s from your marketing arsenal, the sooner you’ll start consistently seeing and banking some real spendable results! Don’t you agree? Just saying!

I like the tip #2, when I was very new I had a list that I contacted for a while then some how I did not email them again for a long while. I found it was difficult to know what to say to restart. I find having a relationship with the list is key and so that constant contact is essential. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent points indeed. I’ve been building my list for a while now but still consider myself to be pretty much a beginner with that side of things. Thankfully, though, I haven’t made any of these mistakes. I have, in the past, left a little too long between e-mails, but not that long! Now, to be on the safe side, I have a script that’s embedded in all my e-mails that sits right at the top of the e-mail and reminds my subscribers when/how they signed up.
One thing that’s important is, just like in every other aspect of our business, to reply to any e-mails that are sent. It would make very bad business sense and, in fact, would be downright rude to just ignore messages that are sent us. People have taken the time to place their e-mail address in our trust, the least we can do is treat them with respect and answer any queries they may have. Even if the e-mail sent to us is just one of thanks, how much effort is it to hit “Reply” and say, “You’re welcome”?
Another important thing is to always deliver what you say you’ll deliver. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve seen an offer for a free e-book, plugin, course, webinar, etc. and thought, “Oh that looks useful, I’ll sign up to get that”, only to find that I receive nothing – no download page after sign-up and nothing in my inbox. For me, that leaves a bad impression right from the off.
Personally, when someone signs up to my list they get taken to a “Thank you” page that provides them with a link to their free download. They also get an e-mail that contains the link and the following day they receive a follow-up e-mail to check that they’ve received their download without any problems, along with an invitation to contact me if they have any questions. And if they do, I will always reply.
The important thing with e-mail marketing, just as with any other kind of marketing, is to be sincere, approachable, caring and genuinely concerned about the other person. After all, our subscribers are real people, not just a series of e-mail addresses on a screen.

You always provide such useful content. I enjoyed watching the video. Just this week I had a technical issue. For my upcoming interview with the “American Love Guru” who had been on ABC’s The Bachelor, I sent out an email to my lists providing a link to the radio show episode. However, the guest did not appear at the scheduled time so I just spoke for about 10 minutes about love and relationships. Then I checked my phone and she had called the show but she was using an incorrect phone number (1 digit was wrong). So I called her and we agreed I could set up a new show and interview her 15 minutes later. The show went well and it is now online archived at the site. However, my list received a link to the original show – a link that goes nowhere now. because that got deleted.
I was able to quickly change the link in all my social media posts (I think). So email marketing can be tricky. Since I have not been regularly sending emails, I hesitated about immediately sending a new email with a new link. Instead, I created a new blog which was broadcast to some of my lists with the correct link.
Email marketing has to be carefully constructed and nurtured.

Great advice as usual! Email marketing is essential in business. The best take away is to loose that free account. When the bots are out, they notice this and it could be thrown right into spam. Yes sir, I just shouted this one out in my last webinar.
When it comes to Email marketing, we need to be consistent. We cannot forget about it for a few weeks and return. Once we decide to use email marketing, we have to commit ourselves to a good schedule.
Giving content, and getting to know people on our list is imperative. We can have our emails all done in a row, but then blast out something “in the now” like a contest or even a picture.
Email marketing is growing and changing. I found that there is a great opt in rate when I put a picture of me in the snow on one of my lists. They emailed me back and that is a good thing.
When the bots see our emails being interactive, they just love us. We have to keep that in mind.
And as you mention, please don’t throw out junk out there, or even worse keep giving them things to buy.
