So do you consider yourself a techie and or pretty savvy when it comes to the techie side of online marketing? If you do, man, I could have really used your much needed expertise a while  back! Instead, I ended up relying on the  (as it it ultimately turned out), not so good advice and recommendations of a very experienced and extremely savvy (and fairly well known) online marketer ( whom some of you) more techie types may actually know.

And might have actually done business with. He basically presented himself and his self proposed solutions, as the super hero in a box, ready, willing and able to fix some of my recurring techie problems, and make them a thing of the past for good.

And of course, as fate would have it, things didn’t quite work out that way! (Why color me surprise!) Now granted, in the spirit of full (or at least) semi partial disclosure. He did install several extremely practical multi faceted plugins on my site using his unlimited licensing permission guidelines.

And I use most of them practically every day and then some.

 However, there was this one particularly popular plugin, that he installed under his own unlimited license agreement, that permitted him  to do so, that was the inspiration for this particular post.

And  looking back in retrospect, it’s also what he ultimately failed to do,(that in my humble opinion) he definitely should have, that sort of left me – to this day-with a rather bad taste in my mouth!

So Would A Real Super Hero Leave You Hanging Like This?

Now of course in the movies, Clark Kent (aka) Super Man, or “whoever” your particular super hero of choice is, arrives just in the nick of time, after they’ve leaped that proverbial tall building or two.

Well, in my particular case, here’s the gist of what happened. This rather well known (techie guru) marketer, that I had met and was formally introduced to through twitter originally. I initially emailed him to inquire about some of his problem solving tech services and we would up communicating with him regularly via skype.

So when I mentioned this particular recurring techie issue I was having at the time, he reached out and assured me that not only could and would he take care of it for an extremely attractive price! Think ( the proverbial irresistible offer) type of proposal here!

I took full advantage of the chance to have a well known tech guru handle this ongoing problem for me. (Or so I thought!)Here’s in a nutshell, what he failed to, that looking back, in my humble opinion, he definitely should have!

You Simply Have To Do Right By Your Prospects And Customers!

As I mentioned previously, (he definitely) needs to be given credit for using his unlimited license version of several extremely popular plugins, and adding them to my site.

However, this one extremely popular plugin in question, that he installed (as part of this extremely attractive discount price package) he offered me. But what he failed to do was inform me that he left himself and not me as the product’s installation administrator!

Which meant, I didn’t have the all important product key number info, just in case this particular plugin ever got updated.

In which case,all I would have needed to do was offer up my product key info as proof of purchase and would have received any subsequent updated versions for free!

Your Customers Are Far More Likely To Publicly Complain As Opposed To Publicly Singing Your Praises!

Instead, what ultimately happened was, (sure enough) the updated version was released and suddenly my plugin no longer worked properly!

And it wasn’t until one of  my Coaches explained to me that I should have been made the administrator, of the account,not the techie marketer that installed the plugin.

Now obviously, had Mr.Green as Grass, known this then! I most definitely would have made sure that was the case.

Instead, I get a direct email from the developer of the plugin itself, asking me to send him verification (proof) of my original purchase!

Because he could some how apparently track the plugin, no matter where it’s installed! And that’s how he knew my site had an older out of date version of the plugin! Crazy, right?

You’d Better At Least Have Some Idea Of How Things Really Work!

Anyway, my Coach pointed out, that while it was at least semi understandable, that I may no have known  and or realized that I  needed to be named the plugin’s administrator, and given the product key info, my tech guru marketer, definitely knew better and should have made sure, that info was provided! (And I agree!)

And recently as I was sharing this same episode with my video  marketing guru  Coach, (the one and only) Julie Weishaar of newhorizons123.com fame.

She related a far more sinister, real life drama that took place with her (please be sure you watch the video!) a while back, that nearly capsized her entire online business.

And after finally getting everything totally resolved, she decided to share her mishap by way of a training video.

Now there are certain other elements in dealing with this tech geek,  that I’m purposely leaving out! Because he and I have long since parted ways and (you just have to trust me) when I tell you, it wasn’t under the most pleasant circumstances!

So Do Your Ideal Prospects Or Customers See You More As A Super Hero Or A Villain?

But the main burning question begs asking; would a real super hero, leave you hanging like that? As is customary during this part of our show.

  1. Hear me gasp! Oh my Mark, I don’t blame you at all for parting ways with this individual. You know the worst part is that every times someone crosses the line like this it ramps up the distrust level for consumers and that hurts us all no matter what niche we park websites in. So sorry for your experience, but thanks for sharing to help us avoid similar disappointments.

      Yea, and the really sad part is, I was so totally blindsided to discover
      that I was supposed to be made the administrator!LOL!

      Talk about clueless! So clearly this was no oversight on his part.

      Thank goodness, I kinda got off with just a tiny scratch and a slightly bruised ego!LOL!

      But you make such a crucial point, that being, each time someone purposely takes advantage or
      appears to be taking advantage, the distrust meter for every body goes up!

      So no matter “how” ethical we are as individuals and continuously strive to be, we still (unfortunately) get lumped in
      with the not so above board that lurk among us!
