So What Can Savvy Marketers Learn From One Of The NFL’s Oldest Plays? Part Two

(Hopefully) as you previously discovered in part one of this ongoing series, about “how” extremely savvy marketers ( such as yourself) can learn a powerful marketing lesson or two, simply by carefully studying one of the oldest football plays in the NFL.

That being, the old tried and true “play action pass” play. It’s simplicity and straightforwardness is what potentially makes it such an evergreen effective offensive play! It absolutely positively never ever goes out of style!

Because no matter “what” , the defensive team has to at least slightly react and or respond to it, otherwise they can and will get burned!

Either for an extremely long gain and or the offensive team (in it’s) best case scenario, may even score a touchdown!

And by relating that exact same type of opportunistic approach to business, you saw how an aggressive, perennial eight figure a year  online earner, uses the same proven marketing fundamental principles to market a book, when (in all likelihood), what he and his incredibly savvy marketing team is really promoting, is some really high end coaching/mentoring  program of some kind on the back end of  his sales funnel!

(Please be sure and read part one first: otherwise, what you’re about to be exposed to here in part two and beyond, won’t be nearly as potentially profitable to you, as it can and should be!)

So How Can Extremely Savvy Marketers Use The Powerful Lessons Learned From One Of The NFL’s Oldest Football Plays To Help Strategically Grow Their Businesses?

As you recall in part one; here is the main skinny: This extremely savvy perennial eight figure a year online earner, has written (and is) aggressively promoting/marketing his brand new book on (what else?) “how to” successfully market your products and services online!

And part of his proven (multi step) multi prong marketing approach, he was allowing some of his high level coaching/mentoring students (in essence) become part of his joint venture

marketing team, and allow them to market the book to their on and offline databases as well.

And (in order to aid them) he basically created this really cool HD quality promotional video, explaining his surface reasons, for allowing us (the flock you understand!) to be able to buy his book, which normally retails for $17.95. (only, suddenly the publishers no longer have any  copies, which means, if you want it, you’ve got to buy it (temporarily) through his promotional video!)

So just by filling out this (really) short order form with our current credit card information and supplying a valid phone number, for just the cost of shipping and handling ($7.95), he would do us all the grand gesture of shipping it to us! (What a guy!)

Now remember the entire premise of this series, is how offensive teams in football, at every level, Jr. high, HS, college and  even the NFL,consistently use the tried and true “play action pass” play concept, to consistently fool defensive teams!

Isn’t  It Uncanny How What Often Starts Out As A Perplexing Marketing Dilemma Can So Often To Be Turned Into A Potentially Huge Marketing Advantage!

So here’s the marketing dilemma: the burning question was posed by one of my most trusted and extremely loyal readers! And that would be the oh so brilliant  Marquita Herald of emotingresilientliving.com fame! You can and definitely should read one of her latest post at that link BTW!

Anyway: in her comment, she asked the burning question, “how” many people would (in all likelihood) simply attempt to fill out the form, but not initially supply any phone number at all, let alone  a valid one!

Which got yours truly’s creative marketing wheels turning, and thus these follow up sequel post were conceived. In order to address that and some other closely related marketing issues! That said: let’s now dig deep! Shall we!

Let’s presume that  our online perennial eight figure earning marketing guru Mr. X, was appearing on a nationally syndicated “call in, no questions barred” type of  radio program, that revolves  around successfully running your own  business and entrepreneurship in general etc. In order to promote his book of course!

And one of the recurring questions was, since he’s claimed to have ( to date grossed)  somewhere just north of $35 plus million dollars online and counting! In the last seventeen plus years, that’s his been marketing online  full time!

Did he truly believe (and or) was he confident enough, that he and his in house associates (gloried employees!), could actually take practically any sincere newbie online marketer under his/their collective wings, (say for the next 18 months or so!)

And provided they already had a state of the art WordPress website and or blog,(and at) least) had an active twitter, FB and linkedIn account already setup.  Could  he/they coach/mentor  and or consultant them, (say) once per week, for one hour or less! And actually guide them into continuous long term profitability?

(No mentions of making them online million success stories mind you!)

You Can Always Find A Creative Way To Take What You Got In Order To Get Exactly What You Want!

 (Don’t You Agree?)

And if so, would he be willing right now (on this nationally syndicated) radio program, that truth told,is heard all over the world! Be wiling to in fact put his marketing money where his mouth is and accept this challenge to (have the radio station host(s) choose a grand prize winner and or winners and have it independently documented and take a newbie or newbies under his/their wing and coach/mentor and consultant them once per week, for no less than a period of 18 months or less!

And each week (or month) appear back on the show and give “real time” periodic updates, on the actual results, (whatever) they actually turn out to be! The good, the bad & the ugly!

And  also provide a way for the radio audience to follow along and observe this entire “case study” type of marketing challenge up close, on a weekly basis as well! Basically, the long story short of it is: after a brief commercial break, marketing guru Mr.x, not only agrees to what now- going forward- will become affectionately known as “The Challenge!”

He also promises to document his results and share them in a future new book and five set DVD package, that he will release “only” to his opt in email subscribers!

Once he’s all through with this particular mammoth project! So in parts three & four, you will discover “how” mysterious marketing guru Mr.X, successfully uses the powerful lessons learned from one of the oldest football plays in the NFL, to make a whole lot of money!

(And quite possibly, “how” you can too!) Until then: Please stay tuned, because Mr. X ( and company!) is going let it all hang out and you certainly don’t wanna miss this!

  1. This is quite an interesting series you have started, I will be here to read the next part of the series. I really would like to know how I can use Mr X .s strategy. I watched your football clip to understand the play action pass strategy, quite interesting for marketers to use. Thanks for the share looking forward to the sequel

  2. Hi Mark

    Interesting post.

However, like Julieanne, I wouldn’t leave a phone number that I would answer! I screen all my calls and only pick up calls that I want to answer by listening to the messages people start to leave.

I figure that if they’re considering buying they’ll start leaving a message to say what they want and get me to call back. But if they don’t leave a message, they’re selling!

Liked the sports analogy – good job you explained it though as I know nothing about NFL football.

    Have a good week, Joy

    • I’d be willing to bet, a ton of people do exactly what yo & Julieanne do Joy!LOL!

And I’m so glad my sports analogy didn’t bore you too much!LOL!

But this particular ploy just reminded me so much of that particular play!

In that, the marketer tries like everything to sell you this idea that somehow,
he’s going out of his way for us!Yea right pal!LOL!

It’s all about the Benjamins, don’t cha know!LOL!

So glad you stopped by and shared your thoughts Joy!

They’re always welcome and so greatly appreciated!

  3. Agreed. When you’re that determined to get something your mind will continue working until you find a way to work it out.

I tend to do the same as Julieanne. Leaving a valid number and actually talking to the marketer is probably not something I would be open to, at least not initially. Email is probably better.

  4. Since I know nothing about football, I’m interested to read parts 3 and 4, to see how this lesson is related to the game. Regarding leaving a phone number for savvy marketers, the only time I leave my real phone number, is when I really DO want to be called. Even then, I leave a number where they have to leave a voice mail, before I call back.
Julieanne van Zyl recently posted…It Sucks To Get Old….or Does It?My Profile

    • I’m quite sure that strategy is used a lot Julieanne!LOL!

So those marketers that insist on getting a valid phone number,
so that their high level commissioned sales reps can try and enroll them into some sort
      of high level coaching/mentoring program.

They need to get just a little bit more creative and think
      just outside the box!LOL!

And that’s what the sequel post will cover. Thanks so much for stopping by
      and sharing your thoughts!

They’re always welcome and greatly appreciated!
