So did you read the first two installments of this ongoing series about “how” extremely savvy marketers (such as) yourself, can and should learn from one of the NFL’s oldest plays ?
That of course would be the extremely evergreen “play action pass” play. Now as you are aware this entire series revolves around the fact, that a certain very well known (and extremely) successful online marketer, recently published a new book on (what else?), how to successfully market online.
And he’s currently promoting it in various proven ways.
And one particular proven marketing strategy, involves some of his top mentoring and mastermind student/customers, sending an email of an extremely well done HD promo video, where marketing guru Mr.X offers his book, that is no longer currently being offered in bookstores BWT, but instead of charging you and I the normal suggested retail price of $17.95.
He will gladly send it to (you/us) for just $7.95, in order to cover shipping and handling.(What a guy!)
However, his extremely short order sales form requires you to submit a valid phone number. (Hint: Your first potential red flag.)
And in some of the comments I received in the first two installments of this series, several readers pointed out how, they (either) (A.) simply would not bother to leave any number at all and see if the sale still went through. Or )B.) they would simply leave a number that went directly to some type of voice mail service.
And I in turn asked the burning question, -that being-I wonder “how” many other potential leads, that might also be genuinely interested in purchasing the book at that extremely attractive price, might try the exact same tactic?
Because remember, the whole point of this entire series, revolves around the fact that, ultimately “what” marketing guru Mr. X is really after is a valid phone number, so that his sales team can aggressively follow up and try and sell you and I some type of extremely high end coaching/mentoring program.
And that’s “how” the “play action pass” play ruse in football relates to the sophisticated marketing ploy he and his marketing team are using to promote his book.Meaning; in reality, just like the offensive team is pretending to run the ball, in order to temporarily fool the defensive team!
In order to set up a potential pass play down field! Likewise, marketing guru Mr.x is not trying to market a book for a measly $7.95! No way!
So the remainder of part three (and beyond) of this ongoing series, will revolve around at least three hypothetical marketing approaches marketing guru Mr.X could potentially use, (inexpensively test) in order to compel his target audience, to gladly supply a valid phone number!
Now that the proper back drop has been set! Let’s take a much closer look at these three mega proven -hypothetical- marketing strategies, Mr. X (and or you) might implement, to make sure that happens! (BTW, please be sure you’ve read the first two installment first!
Otherwise, you will not have the right marketing context going forward!)
So What Powerful Marketing Lesson Can Extremely Savvy Marketers Learn From One Of The NFL’s Oldest Plays?
In the interest of time; going forward, we will not be back tracking nearly as much. So it’s presumed for the remainder of this series, that you have already read and understand the first two previous installments that came before this one!
Now then; (picking up) where part two left abruptly off! Marketing guru Mr.X has agreed on a live and nationally syndicated radio show, about entrepreneurship and being successful in general etc. To accept this so called 18 month hands on coaching/mentoring “challenge.”
Where by, he agrees that for the next 18 months (give or take), both he and his hand picked associates. Gloried high commissioned sales reps, are going to coach/mentor, a select group of no more than ten individuals, five men & five women, that already have either a self hosted WordPress blog and or a self hosted website (sales page) of some kind. And they also need to have at least three active social media accounts.
Primarily, twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn and or Google Plus, these ten individuals will be selected by the radio host and their staff, not Mr. X!
But here’s the other parts of the challenge, that (potentially) make it so intriguing! Mr. X (and his staff) will dedicate at least one hour per week, to do individual one on one power consulting, for the next 18 months, with these ten selected individuals!
And since his current hourly corporate consulting rates are a mere $2,500 dollars per hour, with a minimum of two hours! You can figure out the (so called) perceived marketing value of what, one hour per times the next 78 weeks is potentially worth to those extremely lucky individuals!
(52 weeks a year, plus an additional 26 weeks, for a grand total of 78 weekly hour long power consultations!) I’ll let you do the math!
But wait! Because remember, what his real primary objective is here!
If You Really Want To Get Noticed In A Sea Of Noise Learn How To Become Attractive!
Mr. X and his sale team is aggressively building a highly targeted long term follow up prospect list that they can (both) call and email! So here’s what else he’s decided to throw in on top of that, in order to create a virtual avalanche of potential prospects gladly leaving a valid phone number.
Mr. X (and company) is a going to let the radio host (and their staff) select an additional ten individuals, (that also) meet the exact same criteria as previously mentioned.
And during the exact same 18 month period, Mr.X will grant them a free 15 minute (private) one on power consultation, once per week for the next 18 months as well! Say what?
And both groups, get to keep 100% percent of any and all profits that Mr.X (hopefully) helps them generate!
He just wants their scintillating “testimonials” to go in his brand new book called (what else?) “The Challenge”, once this entire mammoth project is finally over!
And you’d best believe he’s going to fly some of these highly successful case study testimonials first class, (all over the world!) to be special featured special guest at some of his elite high end three -five day Internet marketing boot camps/conferences!
And he’ll also feature them in his upcoming video promotional series for the launching of the book as well etc!
And they’ll also join him by phone (occasionally) whenever he’s doing future radio and or TV interviews etc! So can well imagine the impact these type of highly polished (and extremely) glowing power testimonials will have on future audiences, who wonder “if” Mr. X and his associates, are in fact the real deal and can really teach them step by step (both) what and what not to do!
In order to be successful online! Can you say kaching! But ladies & gentlemen, (fellow entrepreneurs),here’s the one teeny tiny, subtle marketing twist, (the glue) if you will, that makes this entire master marketing ploy come together, and creates an incredibly-potentially- lucrative back end sales funnel!
The only way, any of those twenty individuals previously mentioned, can be eligible for any of this tutelage is, that they have to provide a valid phone number ( so that his highly trained sales team can actually speak to them first!)
So that they can verify the person is who they claim to be! Otherwise, they’re not eligible to participate and be a possible winner! Bingo! So, here’s the $64 thousand dollar question cadets!
Consistently Meet Your Audience Exactly Where They Are And Simply Give Them What They Want And You’ll Ultimately Succeed!
(Don’t You Agree?)
If, you were (let’s be completely brutally honest here!), desperate enough to want to be chosen as one of these twenty extreme lucky individuals, would you gladly provide a valid phone number or not?
And FYI; I just received yet another follow up email, a few days back from one of MR.X ‘s JV (joint venture) associates, and he proudly announced, that in the first three days of the books launch, Mr. X has already sold 5,000 plus books!
Now “how”many valid phone numbers those initial figures included? He didn’t say! But one things glaringly obvious (to this point anyway!) Just like one of the NFL’s oldest plays, that being the old and tried and true “play action pass” play, is evergreen and will continue to temporarily fool defensive teams!
Marketing guru Mr.X’s low cost lead generating book promotion strategy will continue to attract tons of ambitions wild eyed newbie wannabees! Don’t you agree? In part four, we’ll see what else Mr.X has up his proverbial marketing sleeve! Until then: as is customary during this part of our show.

Awesome Kyle thanks!
Yea, there is a lot of constant (and at times), let’s be totally honest here, mindless chatter
going on in any given market place, just as you pointed out.
So why should a potential consumer pay particular attention to any one particular business,
product and or service etc?
Well, like you so wisely pointed out, the savvy companies that focus on relationship building
through problem solving, they typically will – initially- stand head and shoulders above the rest!
Thanks so much for stopping and for your extremely kind words of encouragement! It’s greatly appreciated!
And your real world input is always welcome!

great points … I am not well versed on football terms so this was interesting.
Awesome Heather! Thanks!
Hopefully, this sports analogy didn’t bore you too much!LOL!But that evergreen play, the “play action pass”
has and will continue to work no matter what!
Because it forces the defensive team to hesitate ever so slightly, just long enough for
the offensive team to strategically move the ball down field!
And likewise, a highly successful marketer creates some info product,
in this particular case, it’s a book.
And then they hold it out to their target market as a carrot (lead generator) and use it in order
to accomplish something far more profitable!LOL!
In this particular case, this extremely savvy marketer is trying to sell some high end coaching and
mentoring! But he needs valid phone numbers in order to do it!
That’s what makes his marketing ply resemble the “play action pass” play!LOL!
Thank so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts! They’re greatly appreciated!
