So How Does A Graphic Designer With No Experience But A Fancy Degree Really Get Started?Part Two
So as you previously discovered in part one of this ongoing series, about “how” a recently graduated graphic design student, with virtually no (on the books), real world job experience, and a ton of looming monthly student debt payments about to kick in!
Decided they definitely needed to do something completely different, in order to secure some type of steady income!
And make effective use of their rather pricey graphic designer education! Otherwise, like it or not, they were simply going to have to bite the bullet and swallow their enormous pride and get used to wearing that slightly smaller T-shirt, that clearly accentuated (on purpose!) a certain part of their physique, that read “Welcome to Hooters!” 😎
And start walking, smiling and taking orders 24/7, just like a ton of their friends, that also have rather pricey degrees in various subjects! (That Mom & dad tried to warn them were overrated! 😉 )
But for any number of growing reasons, were still not able to find decent full time employment in their chosen fields! So (as pretty much) a last resort!
She turned to a little entrepreneurial creativity, in order to (hopefully) save the day!
So How Does A Graphic Designer With No Real Work Experience But A Fancy Degree Really Get Started?
So as you recall from part one, one of the very first “think outside the box” creative marketing strategies she inexpensively tested, was to run a quarter page display ad in one of the popular throwaway pennysaver type publications.
And she tested the waters with a tried and true “Free Drawing!” Lead generation type of offer.
And because that was fairly well received and it generated an initial follow up list of 57 telephone inquire es in just under 60 days! And she rather quickly converted 19 of them into paying customers of some kind!
For a rather impressive overall sales conversion rate of just over 33%! (19/57=.33%)
And she also generated some additional back end residual monthly & quarterly income, by selling both state of the art web hosting as well as paid email marketing services to boot!
And since she was also starting to really dive head long into this marketing stuff, and she’s starting to get more and more marketing sophisticated! She’s constantly looking to take things to the next level or two! (Especially on the offline local level!)
Now They’re Aggressively Looking For Some Creative Think Outside The Box Ways To Leverage Some Of The Local Offline Business Owners Assets!
Which means,now she will contact one of the local adult education centers. To see “if” she can teach a six week, “how to” build your very own state of the art (mobile responsive) WordPress blog class!
And here’s her main thinking with this particular strategy! Actually, it’s two things she really hopes to accomplish!
1.) First: if nothing else, after her student/customers complete her class! Those that actually do have a state of the art (mobile responsive) WordPress blog up and going!
She will immediately attempt to sign them up through her affiliate links for, some paid web hosting and her paid email service provider as well!
2.) Second: if for “whatever” reasons they still don’t have a fully completed WordPress site and or blog built yet. (And you can just bet a certain percentage of them won’t!)
A Newbie Graphic Designer With A Practical Marketing Plan!(Beats A Newbie Graphic Designer Without One!)
Then she’ll automatically give them a nice discounted price to take over and complete the project for them!
Provided of course, her student/customer agrees to give her a sparkling testimonial of some kind,(preferably a video!) And (as previously mentioned) purchase both their web hosting and paid email provider service through her affiliate links etc!
3.) Third: And just as a (“thanks for doing business with me”) good measure bonus! That she knows all too well by now, will most definitely bring her plenty of on and offline positive word of mouth buzz! 🙂
She’ll also throw in 60 days of free trouble shooting maintenance service! After which it’s just $97 dollars a month (or X) for life! (Meaning; as long as they wish to use her for that particular service!That’s the price they’ll pay!)
And You Can Just Bet All Of This Proactive Marketing Activity Is Starting To Get Her Noticed In a Really Big Way!
(Enter the other reason for Dotty’s video appearing in yet another post! 😉 ) Since she’s really starting to grasp this whole leveraging assets marketing concept pretty well!
Here’s the other strategic move she starts routinely proposing, to some of her more high profile customers and clients etc!Just like Dotty, she likes to leverage her marketing efforts, whenever and wherever she can! So here’s her standard offer going forward!
“If” they’d prefer to to keep receiving her ongoing monthly trouble shooting services, without having to pay for them!
Then all they need to do is put her intro video (like Dotty’s) on their resource page (like it is own mine!) and periodically do a blog post about her “top notch” services and as long as they leave her video up! She’ll trouble shoot their account(s) for free!
Taking Your Business Or Service To The Next Level Or Two May Not Be As Difficult As Yo Think! (Right?)
Now you can bet, as she hones her marketing skills more and more! She won’t have any problems putting her graphic designer skills to work, without having to wait on some employer to throw her a bone! Don’t you agree?
