Seven Potentially Profitable Reasons Why WordPress Dot Org Totally Rocks!

So ladies & gentlemen and (fellow) entrepreneurs, are you still slightly and or totally confused about the two different versions of WordPress? You shouldn’t be because (thank goodness) it’s simply not that complicated!

Case in point; even a non techie small business “direct response” type of marketing consultant, such as myself can explain the basic differences to you.

And all of my online coaches and or mentors, especially those extremely well versed in the different aspects of teaching and using WordPress, will attest to the fact that, I’m clearly not the most knowledgeable with it comes explaining WordPress!

But certainly if I’m capable of doing so, then you simply have to trust your gut, that’s it’s just not that complicated!

With that said; basically there are two distinct versions of the WordPress platform that are currently available. And since both versions are free, that seems to be where the initial confusion begins. Because you have WordPress.com and WordPress.org.

And one CMS (that’s fancy shop talk) for what’s referred to as a Content Management System. That fancy title is not really important, it was just my rather subtle way of trying to make you think I actually know more than I really do!

Did it work? Anyway.. WordPress.com offers free web hosting, meaning you don’t have to pay any extra money (ever!) to either them and or a paid third party web hosting provider service like (either) host Gator.com and or Bluehostcom.

And BTW, Bluehost is actually my current paid third party web hosting provider of choice. Notice I didn’t even offer you my affiliate link, because that’s not what this particular post is about per se.

And then there’s the other free version of WordPress, which is WordPress.org. But in order to properly utilize it, you will need to have some sort of paid third party  web hosting. And that’s what’s meant by the term “self hosted.”

(And if you’re not totally sure about what the term web hosting means, just Google it!) Anyway…

The term ‘self hosting”simply means you won’t be hosting your site on WordPress.com’s free hosting servers, instead you’ll being paying another third party commercial website hosting provider to do that for you. (And truth told most legitimate paid hosting providers are extremely affordable, to get their entry level hosting service packages.)

So you see, that wasn’t so complicated was it? Now let’s dive into the seven potentially profitable reasons why a WordPress dot org site totally rocks!

Introducing Seven Potentially Profitable Reasons Why A WordPress Dot Org Site Totally Rocks!

First of all, you more intermediate to advanced marketers will probably want to hit the snooze button right about now! But all the wide eyed newbies and just plain old curious. Let’s head inland.

Here’s seven potentially profitable reasons why, if you’re going to use a free version of the WordPress (CMS) platform. It should probably be the WordPress.org version. Because without a doubt, it offers you the most flexibility and customization options.

1.) Potentially profitable reason # one: Your first potentially profitable advantage to using a WordPress.org site as opposed to a WordPress.com one is.

Your WordPress.org site doesn’t just have to be a blog! Because you might need a sales page. In which case you or whomever you hire can build you one using the WP.org platform.

However, that’s not the case with WP.com platform! Huh? Nope! For whatever reasons, you’re simply limited to using it strictly as a blog (glorified journal) of sorts!

2.) Potentially profitable reason # two: Unlike the restrictions placed on you by the WP.com guidelines, if you want to use your WP.org site to market and or sell your extremely valuable products and or services and or sell affiliate products and or services etc.

Your Own Self Hosted WordPress Site Or Blog Puts You In Complete Control From Day One!

You can. Not so with the WP.com sites! Why not you ask? Because they will not permit it! Hey, it’s their platform and they’re providing free hosting! If you want to sell stuff, their feelings are, then you pay for your own hosting!

3.) Potentially profitable reason # three: With the WP.org platform, you’ve basically got unlimited choices for which type of theme you may prefer to use. Because you’ve basically got access to literally thousands of free themes or you can go the paid (premium) theme route.

But with WP.com, you are extremely limited to even which free themes you can install. Because you absolutely cannot use any paid themes on their platform!

For the same reasons that were stated in # two.

WordPress Dot Org Offers You Tremendous Flexibility And Choice WordPress Dot Come Does Not!

4.) Potentially profitable reason # four: With WP.org you can add as many free and or paid plugins as you wish! And change them literally as often as you like!

With WP.com you can not add any plugins free and or paid to begin! Bummer.

(FYI: Plugins is just a fancy term for these types of software that allow your site to function better.)

5.) Potentially profitable reason # five: With WP.org you can basically create any type of website that you need or like. Such as a lead capture page, a sales page and or membership site of some kind.

With WP.com (as was previously mentioned), currently your only option is a blog.

With Your Own Self Hosted WordPress Site Can Publish Your Own Content Or others Content As Often As You Like!

6.) Potentially profitable reason # six: With WP.org you’ve got unlimited choices to provide your third party web hosting. Not so with the WP.com version. They provide free hosting and it’s take it or leave it!

7.) Potentially profitable reason # seven: With the WP.org option you can choose to install any of the various forms of media to your site that you wish. Meaning: you might decide to embed a video or a podcast replay on one of your pages and or blog posts etc.

In order to better inform , entertain and or educate your audience etc. Not so with WP.com platform.

They decide what you can and cannot embed on their sites! After all, they’re providing free hosting. So their thinking is, if you really want a commercial   site, then you ought to be willing to pay for it!

In any event, hopefully you can now see and appreciate the seven potentially profitable reasons why a WordPress dot org site totally rocks! Any questions?

  1. This is great information for anyone with doubts on which one of the word press to choose and work with. You clearly stated all the reasons for using the dot org. I like the dot org as one is more in control than the dot com, more like owning your own property.

    • Exactly Siphosith!

And being more in control, was really the main point I was trying to emphasize.

If you’re merely looking for a very stable site to host a hobby blog or personal project
or some kind, then by all means WP.com is an excellent choice.

But if you want complete control and flexibility, the WP>org is (in my opinion)
      the only viable option!

Thanks for your extremely kind words of encouragement and for your continued support!

Both as always, are greatly appreciated!

  2. I really agree that WordPress org rocks and helps a person reach his success. If one has to start his online career the best one recommended is only WordPress. Very nice article thanks to share 🙂

    • Thanks David!

Your kind words are much appreciated!

Going forward, just so you know, you really need to get your free gravatar icon (picture of yourself)
      asap!(Go to en.gravatar.com)

Because that default icon comes off as if you’re hiding something! And being part of the legal profession
      on top of that!

Well, I think you know the assumption lots of eyeballs will make!LOl!

Besides, you go out into the real world everyday, but you’re not wearing a mask
      covering your face are you?LOl!

And some sites won’t let you leave a comment, if all you have is default icon!

Nevertheless, thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts!

  3. Hi Mark,

After reading this I am so grateful that I’ve used WP.org from the beginning. I was blessed with a coach that told me the difference.

I wanted to have my own “home” rather than “rent” so I went with it all the way.

It is amazing how many things one can do with various plug ins on this platform. For me there is no other way!

I am so glad you brought up this topic. There is too much noise out there about other platforms and people opt into them, then have to shift over to this one.

    -Donna

    • So true Donna!

And like you I was fortunate enough to be involved in a coaching program that
carefully explained to us the differences.

And when they did, like you I quickly concluded that WP.org was the only logical choice.

And since not everybody gets it, and it’s not the type
of subject often just randomly comes up, I thought I’d take the lead
      for a change!LOl!

Thanks for all of your continuous support, guidance and leadership!

It’s all greatly appreciated! Without letting the cat too far out of the bag, let me just say
I really think you’ll enjoy and appreciate my next post, Friday, 1-16-2015 to be exact!LOl!’

Because, let’s just say it pays respect and recognizes those that deserve it! Since I already commented on
your post for this week, I’ll find another to study and comment on, so that I can add the link!

Take care and I know you’ll both enjoy and appreciate! That’s all I can say! (Wink, wink!)

  4. Hi Mark,

First off, Happy New Year!! Hope you enjoyed the holidays with your family.

I am so glad that I started directly with wordpress.org although at the time I started I didn’t know exactly what I am going to do with it or use it for but I had a good friend who advised me to go directly with the self hosting as I will be in control of my content and how to promote it.

The reasons you mentioned here are all valid and I totally agree with you to choose the WordPress.org over the WordPress.com. It is like owning your house instead of renting it.

I think anyone who is thinking of starting a blog or website of any sort, should read such an article to make the right decision from the beginning.

Thanks Mark for sharing such a valuable distinction.

Enjoy the rest of your week.

    Be Blessed,

    Neamat

    • Thanks Neamat!
And please forgive me, but I got so caught up in reading
your content (as usual!) that I forgot to wish you a happy new year!LOL!

Glad you’re back to publishing your outstanding content! And I love your analogy about owning a house vs renting one,
I actually use it to make the point as well!

And yes, if you’re simply using it as a sort of journal or a hobby site, it’s best not to go with WP.com.

Thanks so much for stopping by, sharing your extremely valuable insights and for your continuous Neamat!

Both are greatly appreciated! And I can’t wait to study your always insightful content in 2015!
