Entrepreneur, have you ever been physically caught in a major rainstorm of any kind? You know the type of major rainstorm, where you literally get trenched in a matter of minutes!
Yea one of those that happens every so often. And if by chance you did. Would this temporary in nature, uncontrollable physical event put any type of damper on your unwavering commitment to your long range goals?
For ex; if you had committed to (say) walking or jogging X amount minutes everyday or at a certain time of the day, and right during the middle or at the very beginning of your walk or run, a major rainstorm broke out.
Would you (A.) Cancel your run altogether? (B.) Or merely wait it out and just do it a little later? (C.) Or simply carry through with your initial plans, provided of course, that carrying through didn’t pose any type of imminent danger?
And what do you think or suppose tennis superstar Roger Federer might do, faced with those exact same choices? If he had a scheduled practice session and a major rainstorm temporarily rained on his parade?
Bear in mind, old Roger literally has millions of dollars in his bank account. So is one missed or delayed practice session, really all that critical to the remainder of his careers success?
Or what about this; what if you haven’t even earned a single penny yet and you’re merely aspiring to un guaranteed future greatness of some kind? Is it really worth it to temporarily jeopardize your health for some fantasy achievement of some kind?
So What If Anything Could A Major Rainstorm Reveal About Your Chances For Long Term Success?
There’s an old sports legend folklore type of supposed tall tale that’s been tossed about for many years now; that claims golf legend Arnold Palmer (yes) that would be the very same Arnold Palmer that you’re thinking of!
He was scheduled to pay a visit to the Stanford men’s golfing program, to let’s just say, among other things. Impart some of his many years of (hard fought) golfing know how and wisdom and also provide a little pep talk to the current Stanford men’s golfing team members.
However, before that could actually take place; on the day of his scheduled visit, a major rainstorm took place and as the players were right in the middle of one of their daily practice sessions, it literally started to rain like there was no end in sight.
Rumor has it, that it was literally raining so hard, and that the rain drops were so large, that the coach (of course) immediately ordered everybody off the tees and into the showers in order to prepare for Arnold’s scheduled (and much anticipated) appearance.
Well, as the head coach was taking his head count (just to be sure) that all of his players were indeed accounted for and safely made it off the greens.
One player had not yet been accounted for? So the coach asked the other players in a rather concerned voice; “so has anybody seen Woods?” The Woods that he was of course referring to was, none other than Eldrick “Tiger” Woods!
Yea, his real first name is Eldrick,, just in case you didn’t know.
But his (nick name is ) Tiger! And at first several players spoke up and said they had not. But the last time they’d actually see him, he like everybody else was taking his scheduled allotted number of practice swings!
Finally, another team member spoke up said, “where do you think he is Coach?” And with that, a couple of the players were sent immediately to verify every bodies hunch. And as expected, there was old “Tiger” still out on the practice field, taking his scheduled number of practice swings!
Even during the middle of a vicious unrelenting rainstorm!
And even after being informed by his fellow teammates that they were specifically sent by the coach, to get him asap, so that old Arnold could finally deliver his much anticipated talk to the entire team.
What Do You Think Tigers Actions During That Unrelenting Rainstorm Tell You About His Long Term Chances For Future Success?
Rumor has it, old Tiger informed his teammates to inform both his Coach and Mr. Palmer, that he’d be there as soon as he’d completed his scheduled number of practice swings! Say what?
And keep in mine, to this point in Eldrick’s young sports filled life, he hadn’t earned so much as a single nickel from playing golf on the professional level yet! In fact, he was still an amateur player in college!
Granted, he had a couple of rather prestigious national amateur golf championships under his belt to that point!
But he hadn’t signed any lucrative multi million endorsement deals yet. Nor was he currently receiving lucrative appearance fees either!
The point being, since Tiger was still just an extremely talented high profile amateur athlete to that point in his athletic career, would you have made the same decision as he did, or would a major unrelenting rainstorm have prevented you from temporarily achieving your goals?

Hi Mark,
I understand completely what you are saying about not letting anything stand in your way of your goals and routines and agree 100%.
Although here in SW Florida, you don’t stay out in any rain, especially with a golf club because more than likely you are going to get hit by lightening. So we would have to postpone until the storm was over.

You definitely got that right Monna!
Most of us, wouldn’t need much of an excuse of any kind, to delay things.
But a major rainstorm (even without) the very real threat of lightening, is more than enough of
an excuse for most. Glad you found some value and thanks for stopping by and your thoughts and insights.
I truly appreciate both!
Hi Mark,
Great analogy as usual my friend! The “rainstorm” to me is those things that come up in life and I have to agree with Nile here..it’s fear.
Yes, stuff happens all the time, but do we run away? Not I! I face it and push on. It may not be immediately. But if I don’t push through it, it bugs me until I do.
Awesome post!

And that’s why you’re one of my coaches and mentors!
Nuff said there! But thank for your extremely kind words! But do think it’s so very fascinating, that
both you and Nile interpreted the rain as fear!
There could be a whole another more abstract article done on that entire occurrence! And it would be totally fascinating to read!
In any event, so glad you stopped by and shared your always colorful insights! And thanks for your continuous support!
I really do appreciate it!
Love the Tiger Woods lesson. It is so easy to see how his commitment and success went hand in hand!
I may not be as dedicated as Tiger, but I find that when I’m met with problems, doing just one thing towards my goals can make me feel good and help me keep moving closer towards what I want. I don’t need to run a marathon, I just need to keep taking steps.

Excellent point!
Referring to you mentioning that you definitely don’t need to run a marathon, just keep taking and making the right steps!
And progress will surely be made!
Somehow, that needs to be either a blog post or video or both!LOL! Thanks for the inspiration!
Yea, old Tiger definitely has cult like dedication, does he not? Great insights Kari!
Thanks for stopping by and sharing you thoughts! And for your continuous support! I truly
appreciate both!
That rainstorm is just fear, you can either face it, or run from it. People who run from it (or cower or freeze up or do nothing) won’t learn anything on how to succeed.
I’ve always told people that they need to open their mind to success. Realize that there will be pitfalls, but know that they can always climb out and choose the better path.

Absolutely Niles!
You can several extremely good points. One can either face their
challenges head or like you said, run from them.
And in the process delay or avoid altogether, the mindset they need to develop, in order to ultimately be successful.
thanks for stopping by and sharing your insights. I definitely appreciate both.
Another inspiring analogy. Let’s see I’ve literally and figuratively been through 4 hurricanes and too many tropical storms and earth quakes to count which I suppose is why I am so passionate about the power of resilience. Knowing Tiger as we all do I can’t say I’m surprised at his reaction, but there’s always another side to a story. Had the rainstorm been accompanied by lightening that young man’s tenacity would have rather been foolish disregard for his life. Thanks so much for another enjoyable story Mark!

So glad you enjoyed the post Marquita!
And like you, I pretty much had the same reaction, we I first heard this story about
Tiger’s resolve and response as well!LOL!
Of course, I’d like to think that as you pointed out, if that rainstorm had take a turn for the worst,
even old Tiger wouldn’t have taken on Mother Nature!LOl!
Thanks as always for not only stopping by!But for sharing your constantly encouraging insights!
