How To Increase Sales In Retail! (Without Going Broke While You Do So!) Part Two

So as you previously discovered in part one, of this ongoing series about how to increase sales in retail, without going broke while you do so!

Remember how this extremely savvy, local coffee retailer, decided to strategically grow their market share, by (first) targeting non competitive, local Mom & Pop restaurant owners.(Who would of thought, right?)

And they would allow some of these non competitive business owners, to expose their best repeat loyal customers, to some of their most popular, market tested high end gourmet coffees, cocoas, ice teas, lemonades and or other exotic beverages etc.

And simply by strategically cross promoting each other, this extremely savvy coffee retailer (was) and is able to dramatically lower their traditional, brand new first time customer, cost per lead.

From a current range of $40-$60 dollars,(sometimes more) to a far more affordable cost of anywhere from $4 to $19 dollars per lead! say what?

In fact, even if they grossed the exact same amount for the entire year, as they did the year before! The fact they dramatically lowered their brand new first time customer acquisition cost, they’d still net a higher gross profit!

So let’s see “how” a completely different, semi cash strapped entrepreneurial retailer, that just so happens to be a home made (DIY) “Do It Yourself” jewelry maker. Could basically use a similar marketing model, to systematically grow their positive word of mouth and mouse business!

Without out necessarily having to spend a ton on some of the more outrageously expensive traditional advertising methods!

How Do You Increase Your Retail Sales Especially If Your Cash Flow Isn’t All That To Begin With?

Let’s say you’ve got the uncanny ability to create some really eye catching jewelry out of practically any type of inexpensive wire. And practically everybody that see’s your mini works of art, they all comment “how” you should go into business, selling your masterpieces!

You can make earrings or rings and or bracelets etc. And since the standard types of wires and beads you use, don’t cost a fortune and you’ve got some really nice markups, you can really earn a nice profit on each piece sold!

In fact, the two or three times you actually tried your hand at selling them right out of your car, at local, weekend flea market event (s.) Who could argue with your results.

But suddenly, once you started adding up the continuous cost of consistently printing your fancy one sided flyers, fancy business cards, with the raised print, that your “branding” expert buddy highly recommended and your weekly on and offline paid ads etc!

You suddenly realized, you definitely need to make a few major adjustments and tweaks to your current marketing/paid advertising strategy! Because your once rather hefty initial gross front end profit margins, are starting to shrink!

Who Says You’ve Got To Go Deep Into Debt In Order To Make Some Serious Money?

So let’s say you (wisely) decide to go after/target a slightly more upscale, and therefore more affluent target market. And you decide that maybe some (local) upscale women hair salons best repeat loyal customers and some of the nurses at the local hospitals, might really help boost your on and offline, positive word of mouth and mouse presence.

So here’s “how” you strategically go about getting some much needed exposure with the upscale women’s hair salon clientele. You approach your sister, aunt or a really close and reliable female friend and or a really close female friend and or relative, of one of the previously mentioned groups.

And you pay for them to go get their hair and possibly nails done at least a few times, at the upscale salon you initially decide on. And of course, (if it all possible), you should accompany them!

And make sure she’s heavily draped in your home made bling! 😎 And the moment, (either) the hair salon owner, or any of the other hair stylist and or any of the other loyal patrons makes a positive comment about any of the items she’s wearing!

That’s when she points to you and reveals that he’s looking to grow his positive word of mouth audience, rather quickly! And in order to do so, he’s more than wiling, (for an extremely limited time)  to sell them (and) some of their closest friends, employees, bosses, relatives and or associates, some of his best selling earrings and or rings designs, at his actual cost!

For helping him quickly and rather inexpensively spread the word! And that’s when he (and or) you informs them, that you’d really like to get your masterpieces in the hands of some local nurses for obvious reasons! 😎

There’s Far More Untapped Marketing Leverage Than You Probably Currently Appreciate!

And by them helping you do so, you’ll credit them with a sort of points system, that you’re implementing just for them! Because they’re part of your VIP Top 100 Brand New Customers Club!

Basically, you’ll give them each at least 20 of your business cards to begin with, and have them print their first and last name on the back side.

And whenever they pass one to anyone, that you ultimately sell some of your jewelry to, you’ll gladly credit them 20% off any additional future purchases they make!

But of course, you’ll gladly give free jewelry to all the upscale hair salon owners you can make any type of viable arrangement with! Because they’ll be your daily walking talking testimonial/billboards!

And some of their best repeat customers will want to know “how” they can get hooked up too! And they just keep a stack of your business cards readily accessible and as the inquire-es come in, they just pass them one of your best market tested business or index cards.

And that my friend, is one of the simplest offline ways to increase your income. Notice there’s no mention of driving traffic to your mobile friendly WordPress blog! What a relief, right?

  1. Hi Mark,

    Thanks for this awesome post.

I like the idea of cross-promotion as it has the ability of making the customer more loyal to the brand, the more products/services you provide a customer, the more repeat sales he stands to make from you.

Coupled with the fact that your acquisition cost will be lowered.

Good strategies you’ve got all through this post, you did a nice job with this one.

    Keep them coming bro.

    Cheers
