How The Alluring Rabbit Hole Of Affiliate Marketing Trips Up So Many Promising Newbie Marketers!

(And What You Must Consistently Do Now In Order To Prevent It

From Happening To You!)

So how many times, (lately) have heard the phrase, “Putting the cart before the horse?”Sound familiar? In Internet marketing terms, that phrase often leads to, especially for newbies anyway, being accused of falling down the rabbit hole.

You know, the allure of “how” this tsunami of cash, is supposedly waiting at the end of the Internet marketing rainbow, specifically by way and courtesy of, good old affiliate marketing!

May be so, that might even be the case for less than one tenth of one  percent of the constant onslaught of wannabe online marketers!News flash: Sadly, for the vast majority of us! Myself included, that just simply isn’t, and wasn’t the case!Bummer! 😎

But all is not lost, because there’s actually a silver lining or two, to be discovered and readily appreciated, provided, you really are in this for the right reasons!Let’s have a look at an instance or two, shall we?

So How Does The Alluring Rabbit Hole Of Affiliate Marketing Constantly Trip Up So Many Aspiring Newbie Marketers?

(And What Can You Specifically Do Right Now To Prevent It From Happening To You?)

You know the other thing that happens a lot, with regards to any type of affiliate marketing game plan is, far too many aspiring newbie marketers, attempt to do something strictly for money first!

Instead of carefully considering, “how” they can best serve their specific niche!Based on their current skill level, passion, resources and commitment levels etc!

Case in point: Ladies & gentlemen, just recently, (as of the day I’m writing this very post) to be exact, I got this rather interesting comment, and had this lively and engaging comment exchange with a visitor.

And I want to share with you, not only “what” they specifically asked me, but what my answers were as well. In the hopes of helping not only him, quickly come to grips with certain undeniable realities of successful online marketing principles!

But chances are, there are many more in his exact same boat, and hopefully this post will help them move forward as well!

Now because I realize this is hopelessly boring (and totally elementary) for some of you more advanced and experienced marketers, still, it’s my belief that by sharing this exchange, the uncertain newbies among us, will be propelled forward, on the right footing! So please bare with us! 😎

Practically all of us, have heard the marketing adage that, “facts tell, but stories sell! Correct? So that’s the spirit of this particular story being shared.

Because it offers a lot of insight, into an all too common issue/problem, with far too many aspiring newbie marketers, that may not be sure “how” they can effectively serve their chosen niche, especially when they’re just starting out and they wanna initially use some form of affiliate marketing, to find success online.

The Rabbit Hole Can Either Be A Spring Board To Bigger And Better And Or A Dark Hole To Frustration And Despair! The Choice Is Ultimately Yours!

So here’s “what” he initially said in his first comment.

Then I replied and then he replied to my reply and that’s where I’ll offer my condensed version of my second reply.(Little dizzy yet? 😎 )

He initially wrote: “I’m learning about writing Sales letter, but I heard something about Video Sales letter, Can I ask you which is better? I’m just a newbie and I just want to learn. I thought I can find the answer here.”

Then I initially replied with: “Thanks for stopping by Hai!

The true answer is, just depending on what your specific target audience is,
and the particular products or services you provide.

It’s best for you to inexpensively test both approaches a couple of
times and see which approach overall, provides the best response rate!

Because every bodies audiences are different and some of your audience may
prefer to read, while others would just as soon watch a video or series of videos or listen to
a podcast etc.

You’ve gotta inexpensively tested both a couple of different times, to get a
true indication Hai! Your audience will definitely let you know, based on their overall
response or lack thereof!

It’s our job as savvy marketers, to listen to them and simply respond accordingly!”

Then he replied back with: “Hi Mark,
Thanks for replying me. I appreciate your answer and I’m so happy. I’m learning and I don’t have any mailing list right now. And I’m doing as an affiliate so can you give me an advice that I should use direct mail letter or video sales letter ?
Thank you again.”

My condensed version reply is in the next paragraph.

Entrepreneur Don’t Let The Rabbit Hole Itself Trip You Up! (Instead Leverage It To Become An Irresistible Lead Magnet Creation Process!)

So here now is my highly condensed second response! Strictly in the interest of space!First of all, I totally assured him, we all basically start out probably not having a list of any kind! Especially online! 😎

But for him not to be and or get too hung up on that! And to merely start applying the proven, basic online marketing principles, right where he was!I also suggested, that he first determine what his particular strengths and weaknesses and personal preferences were.

Because, sense I had no real clue about his current work ethic, determination, commitment level, personal integrity or his passion level or what his current financial situation truly is.

I strongly advised him to first decide which particular medium(s) best suited and played to his current strengths and comfort levels.

If he didn’t prefer (or was) sort of uncomfortable, initially being in front of the camera, then definitely don’t start out trying to market primarily using on screen videos! (But that doesn’t necessarily mean he couldn’t do off screen audio narrated Power Point type of presentation videos!)

Figure Both Your Current Strengths And Weaknesses! (And Go From There!)

And if money currently was a little tight, then attempting to do and sustain a real direct mail marketing  and or paid ad on or offline campaign of any kind, might initially be the wrong approach as well.

Or if, he hated writing, then trying to commit to a steady blogging schedule might prove to be counter productive too! And of course the same could be said for attempting to start out using podcasts, if in (fact) like a lot of marketers claim, they don’t necessarily like the sound of their own voice.

In short, I highly recommended he discover his true strengths first, then decide on which potential medium(s), best suites his current situation and to initially start with that! But it’s what I highly advised he do next, that’s definitely worth paying close attention to!

The Alluring Rabbit Hole Is Mostly Easily Found And Or Stumbled Upon When There Is No Proven Blueprint To Follow And Or Emulate!

If nothing else, I sincerely hope this next piece of (extremely) heart felt advice, doesn’t fall upon deaf ears! I suggested he do his research and quickly discover, “what” the current pressure points are for the specific niche he was attempting to serve!

And that he should initially avoid at all cost, the over crowded and far too general topic of “how to” make money using any type of (so called) affiliate marketing! For obvious reasons initially!

And instead, attempt to become the go to guy, (or at least) one of them, by maybe expertly advising his target audience on: “The Five Most Critical Things Every Newbie Marketer Should Be Aware Of! (Before You Attempt To Do Any Type Of Affiliate Marketing!”

Or perhaps, something like: “How To Quickly Determine If The Product Or Service You’re Seriously Thinking About Marketing As An Affiliate! (Is Really Right For You!) (And Five Simple Things You Must Do ASAP If It’s Not!”)

Or something like: “Why Even If The  Specific Product Or Service You Chose To Market As An Affiliate May Be Perfect For You! (You Still Make Not Make Any Money!”)

In case it’s still not crystal clear here! What I’m highly recommending and advocating for here, is specifically for the semi confused, aspiring newbie marketers among us!

Don’t Ever Cut Corners When It Comes To Investing In Quality Coaches Or Mentors!

Find a subject that you’re passionate about, and you’ve got some real life expertise and experiences to draw upon and share, that would definitely benefit your specific target audience!

And turn your real life experiences into some type of free lead generating giveaway, to initially start attracting your specific target audience! And start with whichever medium and or mediums, best suit your current strengths, comfort level and pocket book etc!

That way you don’t whined up, (or at least), it’s far less likely, that you whined up being, yet another victim of the alluring rabbit hole of would be affiliate marketing!Don’t you agree? I sincerely Hope this little case study in reality helps! 😎 Now as is customary during this part of our show.

  1. Hi Mark,

It takes a genuinely commitment and hardwork to make it Blogging…

Blogging in and of itself is not a busiess, it’s to be used to drive exposure into our product and services.

In other words, you must treat it as a business because that is what it is.

    Thanks

  2. Interesting post Mark.

From what I’ve seen over the years, too many people want or expect to get rich quick, like Arleen was saying. Then when it doesn’t happen fast enough they give up. “It doesn’t work”.

Or they begin building something, start doubting themselves and quit. And of course many people don’t even finish anything. We all know how much unfinished projects bring in, nothing.

I use to help friends get started online, but pretty much every time, they didn’t do much, or it didn’t bring in money fast enough. So I don’t help friends any more. Don’t mean to be rude, just got tired of wasting my time helping them. One guy out all of them did listen, applied it and he made a nice income online. It’s sure not rocket science. 🙂

The rabbit hole is just the tip of the iceberg.

    Thanks for sharing Mark. 🙂

And maybe I’ll do a sequel to this post and reference exactly what you’re
sharing, (meaning) the rabbit hole is just the tip of the iceberg!LOL!

Because we both know that’s the truth! Big kudos for at least attempting to
      help out some friends!

  3. I think the biggest mistake people make is to thinking a get rich fast scheme. In order to sell anything one needs to think about their strengths. My son wants to start a business and asked me if I didn’t sell promotional products, what would I do. I said something to do with the pet industry because I am very into my dog. She has everything. It is not right for him. I told him think about your skills and come up with a need. I suggested with his skills to create an app. Ideas are endless but he you can not put the cart before the horse. One needs to start with a plan and work through it. It is not easy and it takes time.

  4. Great article Mark, in fact I experienced a few flashbacks from the days I was a small business coach. I can also relate to Monna’s comment. Some people – particularly those who bounce from one “opportunity” to another – will do pretty much anything to get you to either give them an easier answer that involves less time or work, or do it for them.

  5. Hi Mark,

I believe you have given this person very good advice without leading him to think there are riches to be had in a few days or so. It really irritates me when some still teach that and take advantage of new people.

Another thing and I commend you on this, basically after you answered the first question, he and many others I’ve seen do it too, turn around and ask almost the same thing and expect you to give a specific answer. You kept your cool and reworded your answer for him again.

I hope he “gets it” and others also that take the time to read your post.
