Five Really Cool Reasons Why A Self Hosted WordPress Blog Beats Blowing Up On Social Media!

So (entrepreneur) do you currently have a state of the art WordPress blog and or website?

If not, are you planning on getting one anytime soon?

Hopefully, you’re not thinking of going the free website builder route with one of those server hosted sites by (either) weebly.com and or blinkweb.com are you?

Don’t get me wrong, because just recently I did a blog post where I mentioned those two free resources as potential start up (only) options, if your money was extremely tight!

So I’m not now suggesting that you shouldn’t be utilizing them as extremely viable resources.

Besides (as of this writing), both of those free web building resources, offer you the option to purchase your own domain name, so that your site-domain- name doesn’t have to end with their extension on it. For ex. www.yourfavoritemathtutor.blinkweb.com

Instead, if the domain name your favorite math tutor dot whatever, was still available, you could purchase it, and still use their server as your host for free! It’s just, that’s not the route the real ultimate insiders take!

So neither should you. Those type of free server based sites are cool for getting your feet wet and or strictly for a hobby site of some kind!

But for professional branding purposes, you really don’t want to go there! With that said, hopefully you’re currently active on at least some of the major social media platforms, like twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and or Pintrest or Instagram etc.

And if you are hopefully you’ve got a gazillion twitter followers! But whether you do or not, here are five incredibly profitable reasons why (in this marketers opinion), having your very own self hosted WordPress blog beats blogging it up on social media!…..

So Who Else Wants To Discover Five Really Cool Reasons Why A Self Hosted WordPress Blog Beats The Heck Out Of Blowing Up On Social Media?

First of, (FYI), just in case there are any newbie marketers reading this post, and the term “self hosted” isn’t quite clear to you.

It just means that you (or somebody) pays to have your site hosted (stored online somewhere in cyberspace), instead of the website provider such as blogger.com or livejournal.com and or WordPress.com hosting it for you.

What’s that? You didn’t realize there were two distinctly different versions of the free WordPress platform.

Well yes there are, in fact you can read about in an earlier post I did about WordPress.

Now then, let’s say that you like, DiDi (DD) Alcheva through tons of consistent hard work, have managed to build up a twitter following of 100,000 plus fanatical followers! Bravo!

Successful Entrepreneurs Know It’s Best To Maintain As Much Control As You Possibly Can!

But here’s the deal. Twitter, FB and any other social media platform just might decide to either change the rules or worse, and tomorrow you wake up and poof, you’re no longer 100,000 twitter followers strong! Say what?

Now that’s not to suggest you won’t have your occasional ongoing maintenance glitch from time to time with WordPress and or any other self hosted blogging platform! Because you most certainly will! But still you’re in far more control, than you are with any particular social media platform.Period!

  2. I’m managing a FB page for my church, and of course there are people who disagree or who really dislike the church. They feel the need to come and post their dislike on the page. I wonder, how can I react to that in a professional manner with more than a sincere apology that they feel that way? It’s not like I can change the organization, one in which I believe in fact. And I know telling them their views are wrong is, well, wrong. Do you have any advice?

    • Hi Smith!

Thanks so much for dropping by.

Obviously, you started your FB page for a specific reason. And the visitors that agree
with both the church and your point of view, will continue to support your efforts.

Just respect your detractors point of view, but kindly remind them, the overall point of your
pages community, is to share positive thoughts, insights and opinions etc.

And if they feel so strongly, it’s best they not try and participate in your group
and they are free to start their own. But you and those that agree with your point of view,
will continue to share your ideas and concerns among each other.

And your FB page & group was not started, nor is it intended to be a public board for discourse!

And kindly suggest, perhaps everyone needs would be better served, if they simply moved on!

Because no one is being forced to participate and or agree with you and your groups
      particular point of view!

And just understand, going in, some people, (sadly)just wanted to be disruptive!LOL!

Don’t allow their negativity to affect the entire group!I hope this helps you, in some small
      way!

  5. Self-hosted WordPress blogs have its own merits. Some of the times bloggers who reply on Blogspot have their blogs mysteriously disappeared overnight. In the case of hosting, you are your own boss as long you’re paying your hosting bills. Thanks for the post.

  8. Mark, Great advice. I have seen clients spend so much more energy and time getting off a hosting platform to self hosting then if they started with a properly hosted site.

In their defense they didn’t know better. You post is a great explanation as to why it so important and in the end it is more cost effective.

    • We both know that sad fact to be so true Heather!
I for one, years ago had hubpages (without notice mind you!) simply
shutdown my account and suddenly 125 hubs were and are no longer bringing me
traffic and helping to establish my authority!

That incident was enough to compel me to start this WordPress blog!LOL!

And i haven’t looked back since! I mean you see some of these marketers with twitter followings
      in the hundreds of thousands!

And still, it can all be taken away and or severely crippled, just like that!Without any
      advanced noticed and or warning!

So all serious marketers, but especially green horn newbie marketers and or bloggers, have definitely better take notice!

Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your extremely valuable input Heather!

      I definitely appreciate it!

  9. Hi Mark,

    I couldn’t agree more!!

Indeed having a self-hosted website should be the way to go if you are to build a brand for yourself.

All the content will be yours and you can share whatever you like with your audience and as you said, it is there to stay for years to come.

The difference between self-hosting your website and the free hosting is like owning your house verses staying with someone else in their house. In your house, you can do whatever you want, invite whoever you want but when staying with someone else you have to abide by the rules and you will not have the freedom that you can enjoy by owning your own house.

    Hope that make sense. LOL.

Thanks Mark for a great share. Enjoy your Friday and the weekend ahead.

    Be Blessed,

    Neamat
