Ever Wondered What The Lowly Bumble Bee And Aerodynamics Can Teach You About Long Term Success?

Ever Wondered What The Lowly Bumble Bee And Aerodynamics Can Teach You About Long Term Success?

Entrepreneur are you or anybody you know (totally into) good old aerodynamics? Hey, it’s alright if you’re not. Just curious. Aerodynamics, as you may or may not already know , simply explains the way air moves around things. (Like giant 747 airplane wings and the like.)

And the science and rules of aerodynamics (if you will) explains for example, how an airplane is actually able to fly. Totally fascinating stuff for sure, right? And you’re now  probably, finally emotionally ready to renew or start your very first paid subscription to Popular Science magazine, right?

Hold on, because there’s most certainly a point (or two) to made here. And you’ll see how this scintillating science gobble Dee gook,  ties in nicely, with (believe it or not) of all the things the lowly, bumble bee and your long term success! Huh?

Basically, anything that moves through the air, reacts to aerodynamics. And it also ,does so because of the four basic forces of (or elements) of aerodynamics!

So What Exactly Does The Four Basic Forces Of Aerodynamics And The Lowly Bumble Bee Have To Do With Your Chances For Long Term Success?

And those four forces or four basic elements (if you remember from your/our basic science courses) were:

A.)Lift  B.) Weight C.) Thrust D.) Drag. Alright enough (already) with this marketing masquerading as a wannabe science blog! Why all this talk about lift & weight etc? And I thought there was even something thrown in about the bumble bee, somehow being involved too? What’s this all about?

Basically, here’s the rub. And maybe after you hear this incredibly simple, yet extremely telling explanation. You’ll decide how and why the lowly bumble bee is so extremely relevant to the terribly exciting subject of aerodynamics.

But first, one last (terribly exciting science tidbit) about aerodynamics. The term “lift” refers to the force that pushes something (like an airplane) up. And of course the opposite force which pulls something down, is called “weight” or gravity.

Now here’s the totally interesting part. Entrepreneur, did you know; that according to all of the known (current) scientific facts available. That means, based on all the highly respected opinions, of all the really smart men & women that are supposed to know about these sorts of the things!

Technically it’s impossible for the lowly bumble bee to fly! Say what? That’s correct! You see, according to all  the laws of good old scientific aerodynamics! The lowly (and quite clueless) bumble bees wings, are not able to support it’s natural body weight!

And therefore, when you try and attempt to explain this phenomenon merely through the science of aerodynamics!

One must conclude, the hapless bumble bee, will never ever experience the joys of flying! But alas, as fate would have it! The bumble bee, being totally ignorant and totally unconcerned with the academics of science and or aerodynamics! Simply joyously flies about! So what’s the lesson for you and I or moral you ask?

Entrepreneur, when it comes to your current and future chances for long term success of any kind. Especially, if according to all the so called experts (meaning) well meaning friends and family members etc.

Are you going to listen to the totally clueless conventional voices? Or, like the the lowly bumble bee, remain totally unconcerned with them and fly off to your intended heights! And defy all odds, just like the hapless bumble bee? Which end of this particular aerodynamics debate, do you want to end up on?

  1. I wouldn’t necessarily call ALL the conventional voices “totally clueless”. Some of them have done a lot of research before coming to their conclusions, and others are parroting those who have done the research. That said, if we always listened to the so-called experts, we would get nowhere. Too many voices, information overload, and conflicting advice, lead to confusion, overwhelm, and defeat.

The bumblebee doesn’t know or care that he isn’t supposed to be able to fly. It just… flies!

For too many years I have listened to the voices telling me that a talent for writing isn’t good enough… that I will never be published, because there are too many obstacles. I’m not going to listen to THOSE voices any more, but will listen to a few well-chosen voices who not only tell me I can, but are willing to show me how.

    • Now that’s what I call brilliant deductive reasoning Willena!

And you are most certainly correct in your analysis. That being that even others (that may) or
may not be qualified experts, but whatever the case may be, just because they’ve done
      any reliable research or not!

Doesn’t mean they are all knowing and have all the answers! And after having read plenty of your totally excellent and highly
      informative and truly inspirational posts!

Anybody that’s trying to convince you that you don’t have what it takes or that your ideas have no commercial value! Or not enough,
it’s clearly not worth listening to!

They’re merely trying very hard (it would seem) to project their lack of skill and motivational onto you! so glad you’ve decided not
to let that be the case any longer! Good for you Willena!

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your extremely keen insights and assessments and for your continuous support!
      I truly appreciate it!

  2. Hi Mark,
    fascinating information!

We have been tought by well meaning people about what is possible.
Yet, there is more and more evidence that a lot more is possible.
Have you read: Breaking the habit of being yourself by Dr. Joe Dispenza. As I am reading this book I am amazed by what he writes.

Thank you so much for sharing your insights!
    Cheers,

    • Glad you liked it Yorinda!

And no I’m not currently familiar with the author and or that particular books content!

But thank you so much for sharing yet another positive informational source with me! Now I can add his name to my list!

BTW, I really loved how you were able to show how to convert those statements into such empowering questions! Great stuff!

And for the record, just the way you speak about the contents of the book, it really sounds fascinating! Hopefully, you’ll be sharing how and why some of the
content has positively impacted you in the not so near future.

Isn’t just a shame, that so many among, seem to specialize in the impossibilities of life, instead of the exact opposite!

Thanks for stopping by and for sharing your extremely positive insights! I truly appreciate both!

  3. I absolutely loved reading this article! It really is amazing when you think about the fact that bumble bees defy aerodynamics and science doesn’t support the fact they can fly.

So, I’m going to side with the bumble bee for sure! We really can defy others’ defined laws/rules of success and find our own way to soar ahead instead. Trusting our own innate instincts really is the only way to go. And blocking out negative talk and doubt is a must in my opinion!

So glad that you agree! And lord knows, the world of well meaning friends, family members, spouses or significant
      others etc.

Can’t wait to place their self projected boundaries onto us! Thank goodness, you and I will have none
      of that!

Thanks for your continuous support and for stopping by and sharing your thoughts! Both are much appreciated!

  4. Hi Mark,

I love how the bumble bee is one example of denying logic. I first learned that aerodynamically the bumble bee should not be able to fly in school. Yet, they are all over the place and a great illustration of living outside of self and human limitations. What if we were all willing to be one of the few who dreams God-sized dreams and lives outside themselves? I think we would be amazed at the miraculous that is going on around us.

    • Absolutely Rachel!

I couldn’t agree more! And as you mentioned, may we all strive to a little bit
of the bumble bee’s tenacity and disregard for for supposedly what’s not possible!

Great insights and thanks for sharing them! And thanks for continuous support!
      I truly appreciate it!
