Entrepreneur They Don’t Call It Common Sense Marketing For Nothing!

Isn’t kinda interesting, whenever you and I watch the complete marketing/promotional savvy evolution of some of the world’s most successful marketers. Because just like the rest of us. They start out green as grass at the very beginning of their entrepreneurial journey. Do they not?

At first they (just like we did!) they dabble in this and that. But once or as soon as they hit their stride. Suddenly they eliminate the 80% marketing activities which aren’t working all that well. Or not at all.

And they laser focus on the 20 or X% which consistently moves the needle in the right direction. (Regardless of how fast they’re actually or consistently moving forward.) And this is when their common sense marketing instincts really start to kick into overdrive.

And the previously untapped marketing opportunities seem to start coming at them from all and every angle. Most of which they never previously considered and or previously anticipated. Entrepreneur do those types of previously untapped marketing possibilities interest you at all?

Thank Goodness Creative Marketing Ideas Don’t Have To Be Super Sophisticated! (Or Outrageously Expensive!)

As some of you recall. In a recent blog post. I described “how” social media agency owner and mega best selling author Gary V. On a youtube video from one of his recent live summits. (Where literally thousands enthusiastically pay X to attend these periodic live events.)

And literally millions more watch it later via youtube or Facebook stream recordings. (For years to come BTW.) This is just the proverbial tip of some type of common sense marketing. Don’t you agree?

Gary openly disclosed, when he was literally fresh out of college and with virtually no previous, real world marketing/promotional or mega brand building skills under his belt just yet. He literally stepped into a major role of running the day to day activities of the family winery business.

And one of his first real attempts of extremely low cost guerilla marketing tactics. (Because at the time writing big checks for advertising or promotional purposes simply wasn’t an option yet.) He had 100 Mary Plain Jane coupons printed up. And left some of the other employees temporarily in charge. And headed over to a popular local mall.

And without drawing too much unwanted attention to himself. He put the flyers under the windshield of at least 100 cars. Clearly, it’s almost a given every windshield he left his companies flyers under.

In all likelihood they were complete strangers. And probably had no idea who his family business was. Or where it’s located and ‘how” good or bad his wines and other beverages were, correct?

Being An Effective Guerilla Marketing Doesn’t Just Mean You’re Trying To Save Money With Your Non Traditional Marketing Efforts!

What ‘if’ instead of chasing after complete strangers. Gary V (or your retail winery business) at least inexpensively tested the following extremely low cost marketing strategies and tactics.

First Gary would place some extremely large signs, throughout his store. Asking (more like directing!) the companies in store customers who currently own their own business or service. All they do is present their business card or brochure at the main checkout counter.

And as long as they’re also VIP opt in email subscribers on the companies list. They can buy any one bottle of wine, including the highest priced bottles Gary or you currently have in the store. (While they’re in stock of course.)

And they get to purchase it at Gary’s actual retail cost. Say what? And Gary’s cashiers hand each business owner/service provider an extremely time sensitive, market tested flyer or index card.

In reality it’s just an extremely time sensitive, market tested “bounce back” offer of some kind. And as long as they return to his store within X amount of hours or days and they either:

A.) Drag a friend back with them whose at least 21. They automatically save X off another bottle of wine or champagne etc. And as long as the friend also joins your opt in email list before they leave the store.

They automatically save X% off any purchase they make. Up to a maximum of $1,000 dollars or X.

B.)  However, simply for dragging a friend back who currently owns some type of business or service. They save even more. And the business owner/service provider. As long as they join your opt in email list before they leave your store.

They save more than just your typical customer does. Because they have even more opportunities to help spread the word, both on and offline. And turn their current and future employees, best vendors, best suppliers and their current and future neighbors. Their siblings, JV (Joint Venture) or cross promotional partners etc.

Entrepreneur Look At What You Or Your Major Competitors Can Systematically Accomplish With The Right Laser Targeted Marketing Leverage!

And remember just like everyone else in business. More than likely only 20% or less of these potential common sense marketing strategies and tactics will consistently produce any bankable results. But as soon as you “discover” which 20 or X% is consistently getting it done.

You double down on them and eliminate the rest asap, right? And now, unlike a staggering 90% of your major competitors. You’re strategically working extremely hard and smart on your business or service. Not just in it.

Entrepreneur isn’t it time you fully embraced some type of proven common sense marketing strategies and tactics?

  1. Hi Mark, sometimes what is simple to one person may not be as easy to others. Of course, others are not consistent. Whether it be with SEO, blogging or doing online ads, they must be consistent to see the results.

    • First of all it’s great to see and hear from you Lisa!

It’s been way too long, right?

but as far as your comments go. You’re spot on as usual.

But it definitely needs to be thoroughly understood.

You’ve gotta be consistent with what’s consistently generating positive results.

but you’re so correct. Far too many aspiring entrepreneurs are hit and miss.

      So they constantly struggler.

    • So true Lisa
Too many online newbie marketers are obsessed with finding
      the “easy button.” LOL!

So they constantly jump from thing to thing constantly in search of it.

Just so you know. I mentioned this in my last reply to one of your recent comments.

I logged into my WP dashboard a few days ago. In order to create a future blog post.
And literally from out of nowhere. I see a ton of comments which were not there
      a few days ago.

Yours being among them. This is why my response is so late.

    • Spot on Lisa.

And I definitely couldn’t agree more. Because as ton
of the techie stuff you and others seem to breeze through.

Pretty much has me beyond frustrated. Because i simply
don’t get it most of the time. LOL!

  2. Leading off with your pro marketing advice Mark wakes people up! All high level pros focus heavily on a strategy – or 2 – that works to experience great success. Plus they trash virtually all other techniques that do not seem to be working. Talk about simple. Talk about common sense.

    • Yes indeed coach.

Have you also noticed “how” some us seem to thrive on making simple hard.

And trying to kid ourselves what’s really going to take some laser
      focused effort doesn’t. LOL!

Funny how so many aspiring newbies get these basic concepts twisted.
