What Can The Clint Eastwood Movie The Good The Bad And The Ugly Teach You About Successful Blogging?

What Can The Clint Eastwood Movie The Good The Bad And The Ugly Teach You About Successful Blogging?

So entrepreneur are you a big fan of Oscar award winning actor/director Clint Eastwood (aka) “Dirty Harry? Well long before “Dirty Harry” descended on the fast paced city streets of sunny San Francisco California as streetwise (and 357 Magnum toting) police inspector Harry Callahan (aka) “Dirty Harry!”

He actually made his mark by appearing in a series of rather low budget (for that time anyway) western based dramas (more affectionately) referred to as “Spaghetti westerns.” And one of them that helped catapult him to stardom was called “The Good, The Bad And The Ugly!

And while the film featured a bevy of solid performances by some incredibly gifted (although) not necessarily famous actors and actresses.

The main three stars were the late great veteran actor Elli Wallach (Tuco- The Ugly!) and the late great (steely glaring, cold eyed) Lee Van Cleef (Sentenza- The Bad!) and “Dirty Harry” himself (Clint Eastwood) (aka – The Good!) as this cool as ice water, mysterious pistol packing character whose first and or real name is actually never revealed throughout the entire movie and or series for that matter!

Although Elli Wallach’s character (Tuco) is fond of referring to him throughout the entire series as Blondie! Anyway, just in case you’re wondering “what” if anything, some classic (rather low budget) spaghetti western film series, (The Good, The Bad And The Ugly), has to do with you’re becoming a successful blogger? And therefore “how” it all relates to successful blogging.

Hold that thought! Because you’re about to get your answer! And it’s probably nothing like you think!….

So What If Anything Can The Classic Clint Eastwood Film The Good The Bad And The Ugly Possibly Teach You About Successful Blogging?

Believe it or not, there are actually three really important (blogging) and or general business lessons that can and should be derived from Clint’s classic movie series. You see, “The good, the bad and the ugly” is an analogy for the way you should blog and communicate with your target audience!

Because nobody has everything go 100% in any particular direction (good or bad and or otherwise), all the time, correct? Therefore, it’s that real life ebb and flow that helps your readers really connect with you (us) on a much deeper level.

Your audience wants to know that you’re not a super hero! Instead, that you and I have our ups and downs just like everybody else. (It’s just that when life knocks us down, we always find a way and or reason for getting up!)

1.) Classic movie blogging lesson # one: First (The Good!), for me the good was the day after this past Thanksgiving -2014. When one of my coaches and mentors, a very successful Internet marker/blogger in their own right!

Actually took the time during the hectic holiday season, and got on skype and personally walked me through a maze of technical mumbo jumbo! So that I could participate in this mini launch!

Successful Entrepreneurs Make Time For Others! (So their Ultimate Success Is a Lot More Likely!)

And made sure I had working links and the correct ones etc.

And let me tell you, were it not for their incredible generosity and expert guidance, it simply wouldn’t have happened! And they made sure I was secure and had a much better idea of what I was doing before they called it a day! How cool was that?

2.) Classic movie blogging lesson # two: Next, (The Bad!), for me the bad was when I got several personal emails via the contact page of my WordPress blog, detailing how several regular visitors had tried unsuccessfully several times to leave a comment, but for some reason my captcha form was preventing them from doing so!

So after I contacted my WordPress guru in a complete panic, he had a look at the code somewhere in my dashboard (don’t ask me how or where!), but once he was done, the problem (thank goodness!) was resolved! And hasn’t resurfaced yet! What a relief!

3.) Classic movie blogging lesson # three: And finally… (The Ugly!), well even recalling this particular sad tale, automatically triggers some rather bitter memories!

So perhaps it’s fitting, this particular part of my blogging story is appropriately referred to as “The Ugly!” So here’s the skinny! I used to belong to this paid membership site and over time as I continued my Internet marketing education. I found (believe it or not), that I would actually log into the paid membership site less and less.

Success Minded Entrepreneurs Stay Focused And Engaged!

Even though I was being debit charged for it every month! Strange I know! Anyway, unbeknownst to me, the original owner had sold the site to another popular online marketer, that also pretty much had guru status at the time. ( I guess that’s the price you pay when you stop opening and reading their emails!)

So one day out of the blue, about one year later, I finally decided to log in and see (what) if anything  is new and improved. Well low and behold, both my username and password is no longer valid! Say what?

How the heck can that be? I didn’t change them! This has gotta be some type of computer glitch right? So I’ll just contact support and this whole giant misunderstanding will quickly be resolved, right? Not exactly!

The short of it is, support gets back to me within 24 hours, but they were sorry to inform me, that not only had the site been sold to a new guru like owner!

But even worse, the price per month that I was was currently being debit-ted, was now 3.5 times higher! Huh? And that’s why I could no longer log in! So let me get this straight I asked in my immediate follow support ticket inquisition!

You’re telling me that even though the site has been sold and both my username and password are no longer valid! And the new monthly price is now three and a half times higher that what I was originally paying! You’ve still  been debit ting my account at the old rate of X per month for the last twelve months! You’ve got to be kidding!

Your Readers Want And Definitely Need To Know That They’re Not The Only Ones That Life Throws The Occasional Curve Ball To!

And after another 24 hour wait, (that seemed like an eternity!) their luke warm response was yes! That my friend is “The Bad!” And yes this is a true (but oh so sad) story! And yes I’m partly to blame for not staying on top of things more!

But there is no ethical way they should have continued to debit my account for X every month, when the new owners monthly rate was now Y and they knew my log in details were no longer valid! Would you not agree?

But who reading this hasn’t had and or experienced a momentary lapse in judgement or two! But it’s stories and true life situations, like I just described, that really helps our readers experience “The Good The Bad And The Ugly” of our blogging and or real life/business situations!

Just Stay Of The Mindset Which Ultimately Produces Viable Solutions! (And Long Term You’ll Definitely Be Okay!)

And therefore help them connect with us on a much deeper level! Don’t you agree? And that’s what a classic Clint Eastwood movie can teach you and I about successful blogging! Any questions?

  1. Hi Mark,

One of my all-time favorite movies.

“Your Readers Want And Definitely Need To Know That They’re Not The Only Ones That Life Throws The Occasional Curve Ball To!” So right. In trying to be extremely “professional”, and authoritative gurus, many bloggers alienate themselves as deity figures mere mortals have extreme difficulty connecting with.

    A very enjoyable post,

    Cole

    • Isn’t that the truth!

The Ivory tower gurus and gurette’s that brace us periodically with their
      mere presence and overwhelming brilliance!LOl!

They walk the water, while we need a bridge!LOl!

But hey, as far as Clint goes, that was one of his truly best films! It totally rocked, didn’t it?

Hey Cole, I’m definitely with you! Come down off the mountain top already and let’s just keep it real!LOl!

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your extremely valuable insights and for continuous support!
      Both are greatly appreciated!

  2. Hey Mark,

This is very fitting, I agree. There is definitely good, bad and ugly parts to the online business seeking ventures.

Love your take with the Clint Eastwood movie too, I love me some Clint now.

So was happy to help you with you in understanding the entire set up and how to get you up and running. It’s important at times to have someone walk us through this right!

As far as the membership site goes… I would never pay for something I’m not using on a regular basis so personally I would have been on top of that. Had that been me as well I would have argued with them to reimburse me for the money they were taking from the moment that site was sold. That’s just wrong in my opinion and they very well know it too. But you are right, that’s the ugly side of this business because I’m sure they had sent you an email advising you of this and giving you an opportunity to cancel which you never opened. Who knows, it’s only speculation at this point.

Great examples though Mark and again, happy to help you my friend.

You have a wonderful week okay.

    ~Adrienne

    • Thanks so much for commenting and for going over and beyond
      the call of duty Adrienne!

And you’re right more that likely they did send me an email
that simply never got opened! That’ll teach me!LOl!

And let me tell you, the “The Good” part so far has far exceeded the “The Ugly” with
regards to both my blogging and overall online experiences!

And that’s definitely do to the exceptional people such as yourself Coach!
So much thanks and deep gratitude!

But I have to say that I definitely agree with you, there is simply no way they should have
raised the price and continued to debit my account, knowing both my UN & PW were no longer valid!

But I’m definitely wiser for the fact!LOL! As always thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your
      extremely input!

And for your continuous support! I truly appreciate both!

  3. Hi Mark. As always, you pulled me in with your catchy title! I’ve seen lots of Clint Eastwood films, so I had to know how blogging related. Genius.

Anyhow, your “ugly” experience does sound bad. I’m glad you shared it as I’m sure your story will help many of us keep clear of “guru” sites offering incredible results for a rather high fee.

By the way, I’m curious. Before they changed ownership, did you find the previous paid service helpful?

    • Thanks Karen! I really appreciate your extremely kind words!

Yes I did to answer your question directly. Regarding whether or not the previous
paid service was helpful. In fact the person that originally sold the site
is now back online teaching again and once again I’m a paid member!

Like you, I’m a big “Dirty Harry” fan as well!LOL! I originally got the idea from reading a similar type of
blog post and as I was browsing the net I came across that image that I used in the post and thought to
myself, hmmm? I should figure out a way to relate that movie title to blogging!LOl!

Because as you pointed out and actually confirmed, I figured the title had great curiosity potential!LOL!

And the “Ugly” experience I shared just seemed to fit like glove. So I decided to go with
      it.

Thanks for sharing your much appreciated thoughts and for continuous support! Let’s stay in touch!

  4. Mark, you had me with this movie, I watch over and over each year!

I find that sharing my experiences for years. No matter the end results. Helped me gather thousands of registered readers. We naturally share end results from our choices each day.

Just share that. Then, readers will always find some common situations.

    Great post!

    • Awesome William!

And I have to agree, there just seems to be that extra form
of deeper connection whenever you relate some real life situation
to another or in this can use some other form of entertainment and relate
      to real life!

It just seems to click with people for the most part!

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts!

  5. Mark,

Great post. You have touched on something that must happen to all of us at some point as we strive to learn from the “gurus.” But I had a difficult experience with someone who was directly in touch with me. I signed up with a payment plan – and when I realized the ultimate fee would be a few hundred dollars more, I asked if I could change it to the one time full payment. They accepted that but then the program got screwed up. So I didn’t get my lessons on time for the first few weeks and was in touch with support. At that point they were apologetic.

But then I ran into some technical problems. I had to send the files by ftp and in the videos the instructor failed to explain that I needed to put it into “public” files and then into the correct folder – so I was unable to transfer the files. Then he taught something as a sample, I imitated it too soon, and then later there was a more detailed walk-through. So – the files got screwed up. And then there was no support to help me fix the problem.

Another time I signed up to learn about how to use Otpimize Press. The instructor used a live person as a sample and started with quizes of the members (the way they do on a free webinar). Well when I pay to learn something I really don’t care where anybody else in the group is at. i want to learn what I paid to learn. The 2 hour sessions were recorded but if I needed to fix a background or make a header, I had to listen to the 2 hour recording or locate just the right spot for the info I needed, which may or may not be there. I was very upset with the course.

I could go on and on. So — when someone spends the time to make sure you are doing it right and that you WILL succeed, that is a true gift. It is really the way all instructors “should” be but most are not.
    Warmly,
    Dr. Erica

    • Isn’t that the truth to your last point!

And like you, I could on as well about some of the less than satisfactory run ins I’ve
encountered over the years with certain promoters.

Sorry to hear about your misstep BTW. But at least in both of our cases, we’ve managed to come across
those instructors and or caring individuals that actually made a positive difference!

Personally, like you I think I would have been a little irritated as well, if I invested money
to only to discover I’d have to hunt for the information I paid to learn!

      That’s not cool!

Thanks so much for letting me know that others have their fair share of unpleasant war stories
      as well!

Your extremely valuable real world insights and continuous support is definitely greatly appreciated!

  6. So you pulled me in by dangling Clint because – yes I admit it – I’ve seen all of his movies. Re your ugly, you know as big of a bummer as it was for you I can actually see how that might happen pretty easily.

The whole point of those sites is automation. I don’t know how big of a membership the site you belonged to had, but if it was a fairly big name ‘guru’ then it was probably in the thousands so I doubt a live person regularly trolled the list looking for people not actively involved.

That said, for me the bottom line is how they handled it when the discovery was made and sadly my impression from your article is that they were far from sympathetic – now that is truly ugly. Thanks for sharing your story and valuable lesson Mark!
