Why Your Business Marketing Expertise Might Be Literally Sabotaging Your Success!

So are you or anyone you know psychic?

Okay, and as far as you know, do you have any  type psychic abilities in accurately predicting what will or will not happen (in a major  way) with your business, product and or services?

Now or sometime in the immediate  future.

Including your personal life as well.Just checking.

That being the case, is there any reason why you may have been led to believe (recently)  or otherwise, why or how your current or future business marketing expertise, has  given you the uncanny ability to accurately predict the future?

Especially as it pertains to your business.

You’ll see why I ask these and other extremely relevant questions in just a moment.

But  before you go any further; entrepreneur pretty please (with sugar on top), do not ever  allow any of your businesses most important decisions to be left to plain old (unproven)  conjecture of any kind!

Because sooner or later, this type of wreck less and (in my extremely humble opinion), short sighted type of thinking is going to cost you in more ways than you can even totally begin to appreciate!

  Are You Sure Your Business Marketing Expertise Isn’t Sabotaging Your Chances For Long Term Success?

The reason why I’m seem to be grilling you about (what on the surface) appears to be this rather minor notion is this.

Recently during a power brainstorming conversation on skype with (an extremely experienced) online marketer.

We were discussing the possible title (headline) for an upcoming Google hangout we’re planning on conducting.

And during our brainstorming session; they indicated (rather strongly) that they felt one particular sample headline was simply too long to actually be effective. And that in and of itself was not the reason for my concern(s.)

And of course this may in fact turn out to be the case. However, sadly, here’s what was never discussed or even seriously considered throughout the entire brainstorming session.

Since we both were temporarily on opposite sides of this potential webinar title issue; why not simply do a quick side by side A/B split test of some kind to our respective list, soliciting feedback on which (if either) potential headline would our extremely valuable subscribers might feel most compelled to sign up to attend a free webinar event.

Is Your Resourced Challenged Small Business And Or Service In Danger Of Being Far Les Successful And Profitable As It’s Truly Capable Of Being!

In fact, my counter part, all but went as far as to say, they could all but guarantee, which (meaning) their suggested headline title would be the preferred choice!Really?

Entrepreneur, this is an extremely dangerous and totally non scientific way to attempt to run your business!Please leave the speculation to Wall St!

Without the benefit of some actual inexpensive testing, tweaking and monitoring, absolutely nobody with real credibility and integrity can say for sure, what any potential pool of prospects will actually or ultimately do!

For The Sake Of Your Business Leave Speculation To The Wall Street Crowd!

Now, not to be misunderstood here!My brainstorming partner is as sharp as they come!However,personal bias, preface and or conjecture can and or shouldn’t ever take the place of implementing proven, sound business building fundamentals!

And one of the proven back bones of your business building arsenal is, none other than good old inexpensive A/B split testing of some kind!(And some good old fashion, strategic follow up email marketing, thank you very much!)

And if that particular episode wasn’t enough.Later on that very same day,an email message arrives, where the sender is implying that (for whatever reasons), they’ve come to the ultimate conclusion that offline print advertising is no longer a viable marketing option for today’s savvy (and Internet based) small business owners and or service providers!Say what? Again.

Really?And why pray tell is that? Is it because you or someone you know and respect or recently consulted with, ran some sort of  print add and lost money! My friend, before you take your opinions and point of view way too serious!

Does Your Small Business And Or Service Practice Sound Marketing Principles!

A gazillion questions need to be answered by you! For one thing if you could dramatically lower the upfront cost of your offline advertising medium, by at least 75% or more!

Forget about “how” that may or may not be done for the moment! But rest assured it most  certainly is being done on the regular by the ultimate insiders!

But if this could be accomplished and you ran the exact same ad again, would you now earn a profit  (slight or otherwise) or at least break even on the front end?

If so, it may actually have far less to do with which particular paid medium that you chose and more to do with your inexperience in knowing how and where to dramatically cut traditional advertising costs!

Inexpensive Testing Helps Insure Your Small Business And Or Service Has A Real Chance At Long Term Success!

And thereby convert formally losing ads, into proverbial break even and or flat out extremely profitable front end money makers!

But the real point (I wish) and hope to convey,(make that stress!) during all of this discussion is this! Entrepreneur, (please) do  not let your real or perceived so called business marketing expertise cloud your better business judgement!

And bring you to the incredibly dangerous point that, you start unwittingly substituting your initial totally biased opinion, personal bias and or personal prefaces for actual due diligence!

Because if you do, sooner or later it will definitely negatively affect your bottom and potentially your customers and clients as well! With missed short and long term profit making opportunities!

You’re Not Actually Hurting Your Small Business And Or Services Chances For real Long tern Success Are You?

Because remember, way back at the beginning of this post, you emphatically stated, you weren’t psychic! Remember! Any questions

  2. Of course, as marketers we do have gut level inclinations and prejudices for what will work.

    As you point out, Mark, we must test repeatedly to make sure we’ve got it right. But an A/B split does start with an A… and that one’s not based on anything other than our intuition.

    After many layers of testing, I very often find that what “feels” right, ends up more often than not being a pretty good place to start.

    Testing, then becomes for tweaking more than a substitute for gut-level marketing.

    That said, I totally agree with what you’re saying here. Testing is critical and should never be dispensed with. Nobody can ever argue with statistics, even though there’s always room for interpretation.

      The real point I was really trying to stress is, don’t ever get to the point, especially as you really start to gain some
      real world experience and some success!

      Don’t let your intuition become a substitute applying the proven tools of our trade! And A/B split testing has to
      remain a main stay, because who can really say for sure!

  3. Hello Mark, Well first off I am NO Psychic and I don’t actually think I aknow any right off hand either LOL

    I do know though that split testing is something that we all need to take note of and do more of.

    I really liked how you talked about this with your partner.. NO we don’t know what title is going to work until we ry it Right? and then if that doesn’t work we try something else.

    Same goes for the ads we place, we need to test, test and then test some more until we find the right combination that works.

      doubt, what will or won’t work!

      Good old A/B split testing, just may be as close to that scenario as you can get!

      Any form of consistent testing and tracking, beats pure conjecture, any day of the week!

      And if you’re gonna spend your hard earned money on any type of paid advertising.

      You’d better be testing and tweaking your results!
