Have you ever read the so called “clinical” definition of the word “pivot” as it relates to business and commerce? If you haven’t done so at all or lately. You definitely should.
Because the ‘art” of learning “how” and when to pivot, in business in general and entrepreneurship in particular. Is an extremely valuable skill to develop. Or start developing asap. Don’t you agree?
And learning “how to” do so, definitely-dramatically increases you or your major competitors long term chances for success. in many currently unforeseen ways.And you’ll definitely tip the scales in your favor.
Especially if you’re just starting out.Initially, you’ll quickly discover.You’re constantly zinging and zagging. It really can’t be helped in the beginning of your entrepreneurial. One particular, proven marketing/promotional strategy, you definitely want to adopt asap is.
Strategically A/B split testing, different variables or components of your business or service.This is the more formalized, preferred method of choice. For ongoing zinging and zagging.
Those who can, (over time), tend to survive and ultimately thrive. Those “who” don’t. Not so much. Which camp do, or will you ultimately fall into?
So What In The World Does Learning How To Pivot Have To Do With Steadily Increasing Your Long term Chances For Success?
Great question. And I’m so glad you asked. First of all. Even though it’s definitely not a pleasant thought. But for just a moment. Think of all the public speakers.Worldwide.
Who until a month ago. Were making a full time living. Jumping on a plane, flying here or there. booking a hotel. Or having it done for them. Delivering another outstanding talk.
Getting paid or consistently earning, (either) a six or multi six figure income per year. And living and enjoying a fabulous lifestyle. Until.Kaboom. It all suddenly came to a screeching halt.
And temporary at least. No more scheduled events. Major luxury hotels along with major airlines, literally teetering or are on the verge of total financial collapse.
How do these men & women:
A.) Make their rent,lease or mortgage payments. Until or when things, at least get back to being semi normal again?
B.) How do they make their car or car lease payments? Including their monthly or quarterly Insurance payments.
C.) How are they paying for their daily or weekly groceries? Or other incidentals. And if they do have any savings at all. How much? And ‘what’ happens when it runs out? And they’ve already maxed out all of their credit cards?
These are just a few of the major issues they and, (unfortunately), millions of others face.Correct?
Needless To Say Aspiring Entrepreneurs Definitely Need To Know When To Become Flexible As Soon As Possible! (Do They Not!)
And even though, they’re literally being forced, to at least temporarily adapt. Long term. What does a full time, public speaker do. When no one, or not enough of their ideal prospects.
For obvious reasons, are not willing, to come to a hotel or enclosed facility of some kind, and hear their message. Let’s say they’re used to speaking in front of live audiences.
Which are normally, anywhere from 75- 400 individuals. And sometimes, upwards of 700.But not typically. It’s definitely a scary, nerve racking and precarious time for them, is it not. Or what about the airline pilots and stewardesses? How are they currently making ends meet?
After all. How does an airline pilot earn their income, when no planes are currently in the air? And as if, this wasn’t enough on your mental plate already.
Think about all the major, four & five star hotels. (Worldwide mind you.)Who had already penciled in, various events, for the rest of the year. At least for now, those plans along with all the potential front and back end income, which normally goes along with it. Is suddenly gone.
At least for the time being, correct? Absolutely.
This Is How And When True Entrepreneurs Typically Shine Extremely Bright!
Case in point. Without being too specific here. But can you think of an industry.Where the entrepreneurs involved in. (those who work in this particular industry, 100% offline.) Rely heavily, on constantly inviting, initially extremely close friends and family and neighbors.
To the dreaded home party/recruiting events. some of you know, (only too well!) exactly which industry I’m referring to, correct? If it was a challenge, to get enough people to attend these home parties before. Imagine how challenging, it must be now? Right? Agreed?
That being said. Consider this train of thought.Another public speaker, (who say) two years ago. They readily embraced, both online marketing strategies. And podcasting as well.
And they, (like you!), saw and see, the enormous, long term marketing/promotional potential, of pro-actively using guest podcasting, as a long term marketing tool. First of all, as podcasting expert Steve Olsher of profitingfrompodcasting.com fame. (not an affiliate link BTW!)
Loves to point out. A really good, full time, professional public speaker. Will literally leap at the chance, to get in front of 400 of their ideal prospects, from practically any stage in the world.Agreed? Absolutely.
So how about routinely appearing as a guest, on a podcast with anywhere from 1,000- 50,000 listeners or more. Say what? Or what about one of the major podcast-ers in the world, who currently has an audience of 200,000 listeners or more.Say what? Exactly.
The Modern Technology Is Definitely Here For Your All Important Pivot! (What The Heck Are You Waiting For?)
And it definitely gets even better.Huh? This same full time public speaker.Didn’t have to:
A.) Leave the comfort of their home. And yet, through the magic of modern technology. They or you, were able to connect, with literally, tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands, of your ideal prospects. (Sweet!)
B.) You didn’t have to board an airplane.Or wait in an airport, in between your flights.
C.) Nor did you have to rent a car, catch a cab, nor wait for a friend, colleague or complete stranger, to pick you up at the airport.
D.) Nor did you or someone in your family or organization have to book a hotel, or scramble around at the last minute, to try and make alternate plans. What’s that worth to and for your piece of mind?

The main point being. Those speakers, or profit seeking entrepreneurs, who are pro-actively embracing change and steadily adapting. Like everyone else. In the beginning.The changes are very uncomfortable. But over time, as their skill level steadily increases. And their confidence steadily grows.
They or you and I, learn “how to” strategically pivot. and by consistently doing so. Yo or your major competitors, definitely increase your long term chances for success. Don’t you agree?
