Three Deadly Signs Your Online Business Is Definitely On the Verge Of Collapse!

Got a sort of semi serious question for you, that’s going to require you to be brutally honest with your answer(s),okay? Good! Back when you originally started, (or decided) to learn “how to” successfully market online.

Did you think for one second, your ongoing journey to ultimate online success, would really take this long and require this much continuous, and extremely concentrated effort? (Be honest!)

Do you think most beginning online business owners/marketers had any idea it would be this involved and or intense either? Probably not!

And now that you’ve (hopefully) not only come to realize, but also accept the fact that there simply is no legit “push button” solutions to be found, “how” do you really feel, (going forward) about your real chances of ever being able to run a profitable online business venture of any kind?

The reason I ask, is because, (ladies & gentlemen, unless you get crystal clear, extremely fast about “what” it actually takes, to run a successful online business, you’ll probably never ever experience any real success!

And rather than simply keep chasing your tail in vain, desperately trying to achieve some totally unrealistic goals, why not move on now, before you’ve dumped a proverbial fortune and invested tons of your irreplaceable time, in a losing proposition!

On the other hand, if you are serious about learning “what” it really takes to succeed online, then unless you aggressively address these three main root causes for the vast majority of online failures! It’s entirely possible, that’s exactly where your efforts will ultimately lead you as well!

So What Are These Three Deadly Signs Your Online Business Venture Is Definitely On The Verge Of Collapse?

Entrepreneur, you do know and recognize the undeniable danger of not paying close enough attention to the intricate details, to what it takes to really succeed, in any type of business venture, (on or offline) and once things don’t initially go as well as you originally thought or expected they would.

Or the way you initially drew up your plan on paper etc! (And don’t even tell me you initially winged your business plan! 😎 )

Because if you initially did things this way, this is a major cause of some of your re-occurring emotional & physical stress, that can also eventually lead to some frequent bouts of major depression, anxiety and all that other fun stuff you (far too often) read about that’s sometimes associated with trying to run or maintain a successful business venture of any kind!

Now as if all of that wasn’t challenging enough! Don’t overlook the deadly potential, (long term) negative affects, of not aggressively addressing (and or) at least being top of mind aware of, the following three main root cause issues, that far too often accompany online business failure!

Often Just Below The Surface Of Far Too Many Online Business Failures You’ll Find These Three Main Root Causes For It!

1.) Major root cause for business failure # one: Right out of the gate, this first major root cause for ultimate  online business <span style=”color: #000000;”>failure, (unfortunately) never ceases to amaze me! (And perhaps) you too! So here’s a brand new super eager, but no real world business experience to speak of, highly aggressive newbie online marketer! Just raring to go!

And (I’m sorry to say!) the overwhelming vast majority, couldn’t tell you the basic difference(s) between WordPress.org & WordPress.com! (Hint: Even though both platforms are free!) Nor do they have the slightest clue “what” a permalink is!

Anyway, this green as grass newbie, (for some odd reason(s)) is under the mistaken belief, they can (say within) the next 90 days or less, start consistently earning at least $10,000 dollars per month or more in gross income! Say what?

With virtually little or no real world online experience and or education to speak of !Yep!(And truth told, currently offline, they don’t earn anywhere near that gross amount now! Ir-regardless of how they currently make ends meet!

(Don’t ask where this highly delusional type of thinking comes from! But I can assure you, whenever the projected income goals question is posed to these type of newbies, in one of those free or paid webinars, the magical $10,000 dollars a month gross figure is often thrown out, more times than not!

Which brings me to major root cause for  online business failure # one! Which is, not setting realistic, potential income earning goals! Completely clueless online newbies, 90 days from today, when they’re (basically) still glorified beginners, earning that type of steady income online! Dream on!

2.)  Major root cause for business failure # two: Next, as if that wasn’t bad enough! Ladies & gentlemen, please stop running from your past failures and or temporary set backs!

Let you in on a little secret! Ever hear of a round ball (basket ball) legend named Michael Jordan, (aka) MJ? Well believe it or not, (rumor has it ), even MJ occasionally, (not too often mind you!), but even MJ occasionally missed a free throw and or a game winning jump shot!

Can you freaking believe it? 😉

But rather than let that deflate him, instead it propelled him to even further greatness, because it made him even more determined to grow & learn from his past mistakes, setbacks and or temporary failures! And in both life and business, you and I must learn to do the same!

Otherwise, we risk being conquered because of our inevitable failures!Instead of being inspired by them!

Our Online Business Success Or Failure Is A Direct Reflection Of Who We Really Are Deep Down!

3.)  Major root cause for business failure # three: This last major root cause for online business failure, (and truth completely told) offline business failure as well, is pretty common! And on the surface, seems rather unlikely and counter intuitive!

But that’s “why” it’s potentially so deadly! Far too many entrepreneurs in general, (and professionals) in particular, overlook and or simply take for granted altogether, that you need to successfully market your business, products & services!

It’s not nearly enough to simply be extremely good or even great at what you do and or the particular service(s) you provide! Granted, while it most certainly helps! You’ve still got to be extremely pro-active and competent with the marketing end of your business as well, or you risk ultimately losing it because of a lack of steady income!

Taking The Time And Making he Continuous Effort To Educate Yourself Is Definitely One Of Your Best Long Term Investments!

Without going overboard here, entrepreneur it’s imperative (you) or someone within your organization is semi to well schooled in basic marketing strategies, tactics & principles etc. Otherwise the odds of your long term success are definitely stacked against you!

  1. Hi Mark,

Your 3 points are spot on!!!! I think the most compelling one is #3 – know your “why?”.

I just signed a client yesterday for $1,000 for one week because their message is completely off and the audience isn’t coming or buying the way they hoped for and they have a campaign starting asap. Once we get past this initial phase the whole deal is worth $15,000.

Why would someone spend that kind of money?

Because they realize the problem is they are not messaging in a way that connects the “why?”. When your message is confusing or off and if you’re in a highly competitive environment it is going to massively affect sales because people will go where they understand why they should buy and what the benefit is over that of the competition.

I have found that when the can answer the questions (as Adrienne Smith did and wrote about last week in a guest post on my site) it changes EVERYTHING!

    * What problems are you passionate about solving?
    * What tangible values do people experience and how do they feel about the experience?
    * What “specific” problems does each tangible value solve?
    * Who are you “specifically” solving each problem for?
    * How is your product or service “a” solution?

This solves the problem to all three questions you pose Mark. But, as Adrienne and my new client discovered, you think you know the answers until your confronted with really answering them. 99% of people cannot do it by themselves.

I really appreciate that you identified the problems Mark – they are spot on!!!!

    Have a great week.

  2. Hi Mark,

What a valuable and inspiring post! I absolutely agree on your 1, 2, and 3 and couldn’t have said it better myself! Believe it or not, when I first started, I was clueless. I have a few “failed” blogs under my belt, but that is simply because I preferred not to push forward through the frustration. I think I almost knew what my missions were and by abandoning the previous sites, it allowed me to pursue my passions.

Thank you for your words of wisdom. I’m definitely passing it along.

    • You’re far too kind Brenda!LOL!

And because of your extremely kind words of encouragement, you’re definitely
going to make it far more difficult to get my head (ego) through the door!LOL!

first of all, no matter what ultimately happened with your previous blog(s), the fact
that you had the courage, conviction and determination to even start one, puts you head & shoulders
      above millions of others!

Who never got past the casual planning phase! Now granted, we all we like to have more
happy endings in our business ventures, but let’s be brutally honest here!
We learn far more from our epic failures, than we ever do from our highly
      celebrated victories!

Do we not? Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts here Brenda! And I for one, can’t wait until
you release your social media course!!

  3. Well said as always Mark and a couple of your comments gave me chicken skin as they resulted in flashbacks from my coaching days … ugh! It never ceases to amaze me how many people jump into starting a business – any business – without being fully committed let alone prepared. One of the first questions I always asked at a potential client was ‘why’ do you want to start your own business and at least half said the same thing … “Oh, I just thought I’d give it a try.” That response told me in big BOLD letters that this was not a client I wanted to take on because they’d never last through the initial shock of how much work would actually be involved. Thanks for the great advice and inspiration!
