Why Do So Many Seemingly Savvy Bloggers Far Too Often Shoot Themselves In The Foot?

So have you ever noticed how lots of seemingly savvy bloggers will inadvertently shoot themselves in the foot? Seriously. And no I don’t believe it’s because they’ve got some kind of masochistic complex thing going.

It’s just with all their seemingly good intentions, they far too often zig, when they probably should have zagged. Now, not to be misunderstood here; we all get off the beaten path every now and again. But if you’re periodically testing, tweaking and carefully monitoring,  and carefully listening to the feedback of your readers, you can usually slowly but surely get back on track.

(And often times be an even more effective blogger/marketer because of it.)

But that’s not what I’m actually referring to here. It’s more like when reasonably intelligent people, (aka) primarily newbie bloggers start or continually do things that cause their audience to quickly lose interest in their content and or purpose for being altogether.

And your lost of audience is not typically like feeling the affects of the onslaught of a tsunami! Instead, it’s often more like the practically unnoticeable affects of an extremely slow leaking tire over time.

It’s really no big deal, until you look up one day and notice your tire is practically flat. Or in a newbie bloggers case, you’re extremely valuable targeted audience, is all but gone.

So let’s not go there. And thus, the remainder of this post, is designed to help you prevent that sort of thing from happening!Sound good?

So Why And How Do So Many Seeming Savvy Bloggers Far Too Often Shoot Themselves In The Foot?

Okay, first of all maybe you should get a paid (premium) theme asap, but that’s not such a turn off that your audience is going to abandon you over it. I mean your free theme, (if that’s what you’re using initially) that will work for the time being.

And yes you should install (or if you have to) pay someone to install and immediately teach you the basics of understanding Google analytics.

That way you at least have an idea of, (or you’re starting to get one) of where your targeted traffic is coming from. And you can and should adjust your blog marketing strategies accordingly. Again, while that’s extremely critical, not knowing that initially isn’t going to stall your business, the way constantly committing this next major red flag will!

And yes, it certainly won’t help ingratiate them if you post far too infrequently. But above and beyond those all too common missteps.

And without sounding too overly mellow dramatic here, entrepreneur one of the surest ways to stop the forward momentum of your audience and cause them to inevitably abandon you in droves. Is by not consistently creating content that truly represents and reveals the real you! Say what?

In other words, your audience is not going to bond with your fake persona! They wan’t to get to know the real you! No matter what or who  it is, they prefer the authentic you to the blogger masquerading as you!

Your Audience Signed Up To Get To Know The Real You!

Meaning: Don’t try to emulate your coaches and or mentors to the point that the real you is totally lost and or completed altered! Instead, choose the words and phrases that allows the real you to shine!

That’s the person and or personality your audience was originally attracted to! That’s who they want to continually get to know and bond with! That’s whose opinion and or expert advice they’re expecting to tap into.

Case in point. Did you hear about a legendary music icon that had not performed live for over a decade, then one day got the urge to perform to live audiences again.

So the concert promoters gradually put the word out to see if he in fact still had a massive national & world wide following, that still wanted to see him perform.

And the response was a resounding yes! The fans had been clamoring to see him perform live again for years!

So they set some initial concert dates and put the word out! But what nobody bothered to tell his fanatical fan base, until of course it was too late, was the fact that during his self imposed ten plus years hiatus, this music icon had secretly undergone some type (so called) religious conversion! Say what?

Don’t Bait And Switch!

And instead of him performing the types of songs and classic hits that made him both a legend and extremely wealthy! He instead attempted to perform religious songs!

Well needless to say, once  his fans got over their initial shock and supreme disappointment! They walked out of his first concert in droves!

And not because they weren’t spiritual mind you! Instead, because that’s not what they had initially signed up for! Bingo! And had he and the promoters bothered to mention that important detail upfront, the tour never would have taken place to begin with.

So that’s how and why bloggers can and often do shoot themselves in the foot as well! Just like this legendary music icon did! Of course, he quickly reversed course and went back to the formula that had previously worked! And (once again) starting selling out massive stadiums world wide! Any questions?

  1. I teach Blogging. I am going to use your example about article writing skills. thanks

  2. Mark, you have hit a hard point of no return!

Love it and live it. I feel the same way with knowing. To many times we people believe duplication of a person is possible. That is why so many can not get the end results they want.

With blogging, allowing it to be your voice and experiences being shared by the voice. That is the key.

Duplicate methods and systems, is doable. People can not be duplicated. Learn the methods and practice. How to respond right away. Giving questions for interaction.

Knowing that interaction is the lifeblood of our blogs. Everyone should be giving usable information to help with solutions. Hey, just on any daily challenge. Everyone will relate and get involved with a conversations. That is how it is done.

Mark, you empowering motivation, shows. I can feel your natural passion for helping others and look forward in growing with you.

    • Awesome William! Thanks!
And so well said my friend! You and I can and will always only be ourselves!

Sure we can and should learn as much from other qualified sources as we can! But
in the end, as you so rightly point out, we cannot and should not be trying to just
robotic ally duplicate someone else’s methods.

We are and always will be individuals first and foremost!

As you advice, learn from others, but not to the point that we stop being who we are! Well said and thanks so much
      sharing such a powerful insight!

That far too often simply gets ignored and or neglected altogether!
