Three Things Legendary Football Coach Vince Lombardi Can Teach You About Success?

Entrepreneur are you an avid (and or) die hard NFL (National Football League) fan? Or do you know anybody that is a fanatical fan of the NFL? Maybe a close friend, relative, co-worker, spouse, significant other, kid and or a colleague etc.(That simply can’t get enough of the NFL!)

Hopefully, nobody was skipped and or left out. Anyway, if you (or they) know anything at all about the long running history of the celebrated NFL, then without a doubt the name Vince Lombardi is all that needs to be said, correct?

Because this now deceased grid iron coaching legend is arguably, one of the greatest (and most) influential  coaches of all time, in any sport!

And without a doubt, this former NFL coaching legend has left his mark (not only) on the NFL as a whole, but the scores of players whose lives, he not only touched, but helped to personally shape their lives long past their glory days on the grid iron!

And why not! Because all this coaching legend did was transform a bunch hapless losers into one of the most dominating teams in the NFL during the mid to late 60’s. That said, “what” if anything can his legendary coaching style and larger than life personality. (And persona), teach you and I about success in business and in life?

Well, as fate would have it, there are at least three incredibly simple things that can and should be learned…

First of all, you (definitely) need to understand and appreciate that legendary football coach Vince Lombardi didn’t merely step down from the coaching staff of his beloved alma mater Fordham University after two years and then later at West Point.

And poof, went on to enjoy a five year run as an assistant coach with the New York Giants. And yes, like all bonafide legends, his was both a journey and labor of love!

So that by the time he landed his very first head coaching job in the NFL, it was January 1959. And the hapless Green Bay Packers were anything but championship material!

But that would soon change in a major way! Coach Lombardi quickly established a solid reputation as the man in charge! In fact it was his hard edged coaching style that ultimately transformed the Packers into one of the most envied and successful franchises in the NFL during the 60’s.

You Gotta Hire And Listen To Your Qualified Coaches And Mentors Period!

Mainly because of his grueling (not to mention) legendary training camps! And because he not only demanded (but got!) complete dedication from his players! Who, although they most certainly adored him!

They were also known to curse him mercilessly (behind his back!), but wouldn’t be caught dead doing to his face! Ultimately he led the Packers to five celebrated championships, including victories in both Super Bowls 1 & 2!

Because of that, here are three incredibly simple concepts that you and I can and should learn from this highly celebrated coaching legend.

1.) Lombardi success principle # one: Entrepreneur, the very first lesson you and I can and should learn from coaching Vince Lombardi is this. During his coaching tenure, coach Lombardi quickly earned a reputation for stressing and striving for simplicity! Don’t over complicate things! Why take three steps, if two will do! Learn “how to” cut to the chase!

Until they became second nature to them! Flawless execution only comes about from continuous practice, practice, practice! In fact, legend has it that even after the Packers started winning championships.

At the beginning of every training camp, this legendary coach would stand up in front of his players, with a deflated football in his hand, and begin the first day’s session, with the exact same five (now) legendary words. “Gentlemen, this is a football!” Meaning: stick to the proven fundamentals! Especially in the beginning!

3.) ) Lombardi success principle # three: And finally… Coach Lombardi was also known as a tireless  workaholic! And just like the Saturday morning kids favorite “H R Puff N Stuff! Whose motto was, “can’t do a little, cause he can’t do enough!” Vince Lombardi could never find enough stones to left unturned!

And so it goes with you and I entrepreneur. There’s always plenty to do! Especially if you’re not exactly where you want to be in business yet.
