Introducing Seven Effective Ways To Make Highly Controversial Issues Extremely Profitable!

Introducing Seven Effective Ways To Make Highly Controversial Issues Extremely Profitable!

Entrepreneur, hopefully you’re not going to pretend that your particular industry doesn’t have more than it’s fair share of controversial issues are you? Good. Now that we’ve got those preliminaries out of the way. And so what of your industry based controversies?

Are there any that you feel you can or should elaborate on?

After all, as a current (or so to be) respected leader and or visionary within your particular sphere of influence, part of your ongoing role as a leader is to inject your own personal opinion and or influence on any given subject, is it  not?

Sure, you may (inadvertently) ruffle a few feathers along the way. But at least, your audience will know exactly where you stand on any given subject and even your critics can (if nothing else), at least respect you having the courage to stand by your  personal beliefs and or convictions. Right?

On the other hand, nobody will follow anyone and or a  company that (like far too many elected officials), simply place their fingers in the air to try and determine which direction, the current political winds might be blowing. Don’t you agree?

Introducing Seven Effective Ways To Make Highly Controversial Issues Extremely Profitable!

First of all, let’s be extremely clear here. No one is suggesting that if you happen to see, hear or read about a story in your local paper and on the national nightly news about some poor family that’s being evicted from their home, because it’s being foreclosed on, that you should take a pro lenders stance!

Nothing as outrageous as that!  Or that should you be weighing in on some super partisan political issue.

Nope, but if within your particular niche, there happens a current or an ongoing controversy of some kind. Here are seven incredibly powerful ways, that you could potentially benefit (either directly) and or indirectly from actively participating in the discussion!

And let’s all (face it already!) controversial issues are like extremely cold weather during the winter! Like it or not, there is simply no preventing it! So why not figure out and implement some battlefield tested strategies, for effectively dealing with it! Of course, nobodies suggesting that you should be actively going looking for it and or to go out of your way to try and find it.

But when certain inevitable situations present themselves, why not take a more proactive stance. For ex:

1.) Potentially profitable controversial issue strategy # one: If possible, whenever you have a really heated controversy (is there really any other type!), and there’s just happens to be some extremely high profile leaders (within your particular industry), that just so happen to passionately share two separate opinions.

Why not try and capitalize on it by requesting an interview with both of them.

In this particular proven, proactive marketing strategy, you’re not trying to personally interject your own personal opinions into the mix, as much as you’re merely leveraging the popularity of two respected industry icons and using their established credibility  to generate some highly targeted traffic and attention t your WordPress blog and  or specific lead capture page etc.

2.) Potentially profitable controversial issue strategy # two: You might also create a free lead generating special report and or free ebook (around the subject) to give away as a free gift in exchange for your visitors (either) joining your opt in email list or for liking your Facebook fan page or for  them giving you an extremely valuable long term money making testimonial etc.

3.) Potentially profitable controversial issue strategy # three: If you truly happen to be on the opposite side of an issue or issues, compared to a respected industry leader within your particular niche.

You might seriously consider doing a rebuttal blog post, in order to make your case as to how and why you disagree with their particular opinion and or stance etc.

You Don’t Have To Start The Fire In Order To Benefit From The Flames!

4.) Potentially profitable controversial issue strategy # four: You might also immediately take to twitter and get a conversation going, whether you agree or disagree. Riding a controversial wave, is always an effective strategy to build engagement and to build your following as well.

5.) Potentially profitable controversial issue strategy # five: You could also create a rebuttal video and or a series of rebuttal or videos where you support or oppose  the industry leader or leaders opinions/positions etc.

6.) Potentially profitable controversial issue strategy # six: You could also feature both sides of the issue by having (at least) two respected industry leaders do guest blog posts on your blog! And hopefully have them appear on two consecutive back t back weeks.

That should drive a few new highly targeted eyeballs to your blog. Don’t you agree?

7.)  Potentially profitable controversial issue strategy # seven: And finally.. if the situation warrants it, you might also seriously consider creating an ongoing opt in email series and or Google hangout around this particular subject.

BTW, any one or more these seven battlefield tested strategies, are a proven effective way for you to potentially profit, by becoming active in highly controversial issues. Don’t you agree?

I liked the idea #2 and #5 most. Lead generating report and free e-Book or other giveaways offering a better choice to attract visitors and get engage with them.

Videos can vital role in promotion. It can grab more attention that other methods. I have a experience in giveaway offering strategy. It really works. I will also try out the other strategies you mentioned here.

And you’re so right about videos. There is simply nothing hotter right now!

  2. Hi Mark,

I did this one time and it stirred up all kinds of controversy. I wrote a blog post on why I left the Empower Network. Mind you, this is when they first started, and were kicked off of Facebook.

In the post I wrote about how well this team worked, and all the learning curves were wonderful, but, it wasn’t a fit for me. I explained it in an ethical manner.

People piled in from everywhere…Oh my gosh all I was doing was answering the comments like a crazy woman.

My strategy: I had Aki Wood (brother of Dave Wood, the owner of Empower) do an interview. We were both on the same page and I then told my readers that I respected this platform even though I wasn’t part of it anymore..I still do because I respect anyone out there that is trying.

But it raised more controversy. People tried to get attention but I did not let them argue on my blog. I received nasty emails, but all the while knowing that these folks wanted to jump on the band wagon for their own pride.

Yes..that’s my two cents of how I handled it. And to me it was kind of funny because all I was doing was keeping my readership up with what decisions I have made. It was on the first page of Google for over a year.

Did it do me any good? Yes. I did get many people respecting me for handling it in the way I did. It was quite the challenge to do that balancing act, but in the end, those who had ethics gave me a big hand shake! Others that were self absorbed went away.

    Blessings,

    • Wow Donna!

First of all, I remember reading that particular blog post. And I had no idea about any of what followed.
And so sorry you had to actually defend sharing your own opinion. And on your own blog no less!

I can only imagine, back when EN network was just getting started, what it must have been like for you
to be going against the grain.

I don’t have to remind you what happens whenever we mere mortals dare have an alternative position
and or opinion, that’s contrary to the gurus!LOL!

But from what I’ve come to know and respect about you, I’m not at all surprised that you shared your true thoughts!

And isn’t interesting how many actual advertising platforms banned their members from advertising! I remember seeing
potential solo ad ezines that stated outright, no ads no longer being accepted by EN members!LOL!

Also, between what both you and Christi Jonson have shared in your comments, I really feel like I should write a
sequel blog post, warning about potential fall out and the fact there will (more than likely) be some that
as you pointed, will invariably pile on for their own selfish reasons!

Thanks so much for sharing your real world thoughts and for continuous support! Both are greatly appreciated!

  3. I did this, one time…and only once. I knew it would be a controversial post, but I did not think that many people would be paying attention to what I wrote. They did.

In the end, it caused me more pain than anything, and I never did it again. I didn’t like an ingredient in a company’s product, wrote about it, detailed the way that that ingredient is manufactured, and basically created a doo doo pile of comments on my blog and in my inbox on Facebook.

It’s something I was very passionate about and believed in, but I kind of thought that I would just write about it and be able to move on with my life, satisfied that I had, at least, done something.

Not so, It bothers me to this day. I’m not even joking. So….yes, I agree that this is a powerful strategy when used correctly, but I also think that people need to know that there cam be long term ramifications to writing about something controversial. Great article on a controversial subject. Pun intended. 😉

    • You got that right Christi!

And I can only imagine, that whatever that actual ingredient was that got underneath your skin that much,
that you decided you needed to write about it!

It must have been some really controversial ingredient!LOL!

And you have definitely shared another incredibly crucial point, that sadly I neglected to mention and forewarn!

And that being, don’t ever stand in a you know what storm, if you’re
not prepared to endure the perpetual and at times, relentless raindrops!

Because you are so right! Whatever people are truly passionate about and you open that can of worms
      and go down the road!

Be prepared for an all out assault on many different fronts!! Great point and it’s definitely one that I should have really emphasized and
      stressed more!

Thanks for pointing out the obvious! And thanks for stopping by and sharing your extremely valuable, real world insights!
And for your continuous support! Both as always, are greatly appreciated!!

  4. Hi Mark

I had a controversial post one one of my health blogs that managed to work its way onto page 1 of Google because it had so many comments. I didn’t set out to be controversial, although I was reporting on a finding that was very counter-intuitive.

Unfortunately because it was a filler article that was somewhat “off the beaten track” of my main topic, I didn’t really manage to do much capitalize on it.

However, thanks for an interesting idea – must try and stir up some controversy!!

    • Absolutely Joy!

And let’s face it, one way or another, somehow, some way, you
and I will inevitably find ourselves on the opposite side of some major or minor issue, with somebody.Right?

And there’s absolutely no reason not to harness that extra attention into both
an educational and potentially profitable marketing moment.

And what you shared definitely sounds like it would have and maybe still will easily have qualified for
      such a potential opportunity.

All that free traffic, by being on page one of Google would probably have easily produced some visitors that would have
loved to heard the pod casts of both sides from two different respected experts within your particular industry
      being interviewed!

Just think of the enormous long term potential marketing possibilities!

BTW, you’ve just given me more food for thought for a follow up post where I can reference your latest post and
relay part of what you just shared! So thanks for that real world inspiration!LOL!

And thanks for stopping by and sharing your real world results! I truly appreciate it! Let’s not be strangers going forward!

BTW, before I forget to mention it.I’m part of an extremely active blogging syndication called Biz Blogging Buzz. B3 for short.

It’s a FB out reach community sort of thing.. And we’re always looking for sharp new dynamic entrepreneurs/bloggers such as yourself!

It’s run by the Tech Queen herself Kim Castleberry! Basically, we comment and socially share each others content and it’s based on
points system. Meaning, the more active you are, the more points you accumulate.

Let me know if this type marketing leverage activity interests you! Thanks!
