Think Direct Marketing: If You’re Really Serious About Out Promoting Your Big Buck Competition!Part Two

Turns out that think direct marketing is more than just some bland campaign slogan, right? As you previously discovered in part one of this series, strategic direct marketing is a proven way of by passing the outrageously expensive traditional advertising mediums.

So let’s dive into the sequel. But first, there’s something you definitely need to keep in mind. And that is the typical retailer aggressively likes to do things traditionally, even if the result aren’t too good. What’s up with that?

Primarily because it’s usually a safer more comfortable train of thought.! And the traditional advertising route, while typically more expensive, is a whole lot easier to convince your typical small business owner to go along with.

Even if their results are dismal at best. Go figure. So the real challenge, especially in the beginning is to try and persuade your typical small business owner and or service provider, to think just a little outside the box.

But the really good news is,  ones that are mentally and financially prepared to do so, can and typically become your best positive word of mouth and mouse goodwill ambassadors.

Think Direct Marketing And Watch Your Long Term Profits Grow!

Picking up where part one of this series left off. Here’s the next leg in the savvy high end gourmet coffee retailer and local printers marketing strategy. As you recall, the coffee retailer pays $500 dollars a month (or X)  to the the  printer, to sponsor a monthly free drawing for small business owners and or service providers only! Meaning- each month the business owners drop their business card into a giant fish bowl on or near the counter.

And each month as  both the printer and coffee retailer builds their own (extremely valuable) mailing lists through the strategic use of these monthly free drawings. Two other really important long term money making opportunities start to unfold as well.

(BTW, you need to simply use whatever figure you can actually afford to invest for your particular free drawing, in order to implement this or a similar concept.)

1.) First, (as previously) shared in part one, every business owner that’s a runner up, gets a time sensitive new customer only VIP discount coupon for a whopping 50% off a 5 LB bag of one of the retailers most popular gourmet bags of coffee.

And they’ll gladly throw in an additional 5 LB bag free (the customers choice), provided the customer gives the coffee retailer (or company X) a video testimonial!

Think about that one incredibly simple strategy for just a moment. Each month as literally hundreds of the printers local small business owner customers, enters the monthly free drawing, for a chance to win $500 dollars worth of printing. (Or X.)

Every month, a certain percentage of them will also agree to give the coffee retailer a video testimonial in exchange for redeeming the new customer only VIP discount coupon in order to receive that extra free 5 LB bag of gourmet coffee of their choice!

They’ll take it to both their home and office, and for literally pennies on the dollar, the savvy coffee retailer gets exposed constantly to even more brand new potential first time (and hopefully) repeat customers.

Why Waste Money On Outrageously Expensive Ads When You Can use That Same Money To Grow Your Business By Positive Word Of Mouth And Mouse!

2.) Next, (as if) that one battlefield tested marketing strategy) is not enough to totally jump start the new customer lead generating process. The savvy printer will also  offer to personally introduce the coffee retailer to at least three other other local small business owners and or service providers, in exchange for the coffee retailer doing two things.

A.) First, each month the coffee retailer will give the printer unlimited free gourmet coffee of their choice, for both their office and home! (That little gesture should make the printers spouse and or significant other really get social on and offline! Don’t you agree?

B.) Next, the coffee retailer will also give the printer free gourmet coffee (of the printers choice)  so (at least) one day a week, they can offer free gourmet coffee courtesy of the retailer! And expose the retailer to even more new potential first time customers.

And the retailer might also spring for three dozen donuts and pastries! Think about the goodwill and positive word of mouth & mouse the savvy local printer just generated for their business, basically for thinking just a little outside the box!

And you best believe that a certain percentage of those coffee drinkers that get exposed to the gourmet coffee retailers java (for the very first time), will definitely want to purchase some for both their home and office, right?

Which means, for literally pennies on the dollar, the savvy high end gourmet coffee retailer is getting massive exposure! And tons of video testimonials to boot! Entrepreneur, how can you not think direct marketing? Don’t you agree?

  1. Hi Mark. I know that my mentor J Joshua Beistle talks about this kind of word of mouth advertising. This is a great way to symbiotically build business together.

I won’t add any offline ideas, because I live ‘way out in the country and pretty much have to do all my marketing online. However, I know there are ways that I can help others and help myself at the same time in the online world. Webinars comes to mind, as well as banner exchanges.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

    All the best,
