Three Ways Cash Starved Small Business Owners Make Brand Management Harder Than It Should Be!

Entrepreneur be (brutally honest here please! Ever feel like the little hamster on the wheel? You know exactly what I’m talking about, right? You’re constantly working hard, creating extremely helpful original content! Which means, you’ve finally settled into a practical and consistent blogging pattern, that truly fits and compliments your current time schedule. Very good BTW!  Kudos to you! And that one major accomplishment does wonders for your long term brand management efforts!

Because you know what? Sadly, within the first six months or less! A staggering 80% or more of the new bloggers will be (for all) intense and purposes, history! Hard to believe, but it’s true!

Oh they (and you) started off with the best and Nobelist of intentions. But after the dust and excitement settles, they quickly begin to realize the type of  enormous time commitment and effort that lies ahead. Well, let’s just say they quietly excuse themselves and move on the next push button instant riches system being touted!

Three Extremely Simple Ways That Far Too Many Cash Starved Small Business Owners And Service Providers Make Brand Management  Much Harder Than It Really Needs To Be!

On or offline, too many small business owners think they convey their brand and image, based on what their fancy four color brochure or outrageously expensive engraved  business cards say etc. Unfortunately, there are some things (three) in this particular case, that speak much much louder!

Address and correct these asap, and your long term profits will surely go up! Ignore them and you’re not likely to get off the proverbial treadmill anytime soon! Before you digest these three incredibly simple tactics, to help improve your brand, just be mindful of the fact that in order to remain viable in business, you’ve got to get over (asap) this one and done mentality!

Meaning: nothing  you can (or will) do to strategically and systematically grow your business, can be accomplished with this far too pervasive “set it and forget it” mentality! And your effective brand management strategies have nothing to do with “how” you primarily market your business, product or service. On or offline, it simply doesn’t matter.

1.) Brand management crusher # one: Let’s start with a really simple example in the offline world, that (hopefully) will successfully demonstrate “how” little things done constantly over and over. Can and will negatively affect your all important long term brand management efforts.

Take your local Mom & Pop corner store that other than the fact that it’s conveniently located on the corner, you’ll probably never bother shopping there! Anyhow, their extremely well worn sign says they open at 7:30 am M-Sat.

But some mornings, especially during the first part of the week during the winter (and far too often) for your own personal taste, it’s often closer to 7:50 am! Say what?

You know, that’s the day the younger son or daughter or  recently hired in law gets round to it! Translated, they’re systematically shooting their brand in the foot! “Why” or how you ask? By being way too inconsistent!

Contrast that situation to the online world, you blog way too inconsistently to ever build steady reliable traffic! Nobodies going to bother to frequent your WordPress blog, when half the time, you’ve got nothing new or helpful to share with them!

2.)  Brand management crusher # two: Next, you’re not conducting periodic house keeping enough to clean up (as best you can) those non working links! Your visitors follow the links you’ve provided and guess what?

Stop Shooting Your Brand In The Foot!

They’re (meaning the links) are no longer active! It happens enough times and they’ll simply stop bothering to even clink on them! Plus, Google and the other major search engines frown on it as well! Granted, a few will always slip through the cracks!

After all, entrepreneurs suddenly (without warning) decide to change directions or just abandon their blogs for other reasons etc.

Your visitors get it! But when you’ve got tons of broken or otherwise non functioning links! Once again, you’re shooting your brand in the foot!

3.)  Brand management crusher # three: Entrepreneur, there’s most definitely a reason that powerful CMS’s (Content Management Systems) like WordPress and others decided (thank goodness!) to include a spell checker in their editors!

Please, pretty please with sugar on top, make sure yours is on, before you hit the publish button! Yours truly unfortunately finds tons of five finger mistakes long after a post has been published And yes, it’s extremely embarrassing!

But usually, they are just words being used out of context! But either way! Your visitors know and totally appreciate that pobody’s nerfect!! But to constantly have misspelled words, when there’s a perfectly good spell checker handy!

That sends the message of simply not caring enough to correct it! And once again, you and I have just made your all important brand management  efforts much harder than they need to be! Don’t you agree?
